I don't feel like "they all look the same" is an insult. It actually allows me to not have to buy new accessories when I upgrade. Maybe I'm just secure enough in my preference of phone not to see it as a problem.

When a new phone comes out on an OS I don't use I'm always slightly curious to see what else is out there, but I don't get offended if people want something different because I know I'm using the best phone for me. I don't care what other people use, and I don't need to prefix the name of their phone with "shit-" to make myself feel better.
I had the same reaction, have never owned a BB, but an improved input method, higher resolution, and new OS would be welcome on any device.
Yeah I think Apple should put a little more emphasis on how well Macs run Windows (both virtually and in Boot Camp). I know they don't want to advertise their competition, but for a lot of PC users who haven't been paying attention, I see a lot of people still saying things like, "I'd like to switch to Mac but I need to run Windows for work/this one app/gaming..."

The first time I got an Intel Mac I was blown away. It's no longer about choosing Mac OR PC. You can get a PC, or you can get a Mac-and-PC. Anybody who suspects they might prefer OS X really has nothing to lose because they don't have to stop using a PC until they're ready to.
I don't mind ignoring it. They've said very clearly they're targeting it at "their demographic." I'm less offended by the app than by the fact that they don't want me drinking their product. Now that I know this, I'll be happy to oblige.
I just go with Time Machine right now. I back it up at least every two days, or sometimes several times a day if I'm creating a lot of important new files. TM has saved me on a number of occasions when I've overwritten important files, thrown things in the trash by mistake, or hosed my entire drive.

I used to clone my drive, which I liked because my external drive is compatible with my Macbook Pro, and the plan was that if anything ever happened hardware- or software-wise I could physically swap them out and move on like nothing happened. Also, it was bootable. With TM I lose that convenience, but the ability to have many layers of backups is worth much more. Sometimes I don't realize that I screwed up a file until several backups have gone by, and with TM I can always get back to the version I want.

Someday I'm going to buy a larger HD for TM and then maybe I'll use my current one for a clone, but I'm not sure I'm enough of a pessimist to lug two external drives all over the country. Might not be a bad idea to keep the clone in my suitcase though, in case I ever lost my computer bag.
Nice to see this being provided by somebody. It's too bad that Apple stopped offering the option on all models.
Not a good week for user data, is it?

If this week has served any purpose in history, it's to remind us of the importance of backing up your data on a regular basis.
I'd hate to be a prison guard then. Well, for a lot of reasons. But lack of phone access would trump dealing with violent criminals and all.
I really don't have the need for an SSD external drive (or the finances for an internal one!) but just wanted to say I've had a great experience with OWC's enclosure. That one that's pictured with FW800 and USB is really nice. At the time I bought mine they had the only 2.5" one I could find that supported both formats.
This looks like a great app. Would love to win it!
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I just switched to Sprint from Verizon about three months ago for the Pre. Then I went for the Hero about a week ago. Now, I miss my hardware keyboard and am thinking about switching to the Moment. I am still able to switch back to Verizon if I want and get the Droid when it arrives. Should I just trade up to the Moment when it comes out, see if I like it, and if not switch to the Droid? Or something else entirely? Help!"
