The hi lights in menus also change color but that is about it. These are all ugly to me and I go with my own background.
My mother in law says that Mexicans are ruining the US and that black people are terrorists. She also says that she is NOT racists. Engadget, you are Windows Mobile haters, no matter how many snarky remarks against your readers you make otherwise in your podcast. Oh sure, there are some S60 lovers within you, but they are too scared to even stick up for their beloved platform let alone for WM.
This is alpha, its 6.5 not NEW version, an upgrade. They do plan to have WM7 go deeper with the changes, but Unfortanetly the real killer will be with WM8 where, like palm, they are starting from the ground up. That is what is needed, Palm saw this, and if the iphone was based on the newton it would be junk, right? I have a ways to weight before they come out with a true game changer, but for now it is just steps, not leaps, until WM8. Do yourself a favor and google WM8 and see if there is anything you like, (hint, capacitive will come to WM8 and maybe WM7, because from what I have read, resistive does not support multi touch... hmmmm? Look it up).

I dare say that most people that post have not spent much time researching what they are writing about. Capacitive is not more accurate people, it is less, your finger is a big fat thing compared to a pin head. It is resistive accuracy that makes it a little less finger friendly, it is looking for a point and not a general area.

I will end with this, that even though I wish my phone had a capacitive or optical touch, a better way of organizing and getting to content that was finger friendly, and do a better job at media like music... My phone can do sooooo much more than most other phones out there. I'm not talking about copy/paste and little things like that. I have turn by turn GPS directions. GPS software that will track my rout, lead me back to where I started, and let me know if I stray off track (free). I can SMS my phone and lock it/kill it if it is lost or stolen (free). I can use it as a wi-fi router for up to 5 other wi-fi devices. Set an alarm if my phone is moved (free). FM radio... And on and on.
Mmmmmm, tasty. I'm right there with you. My hope is that HTC has this phone with keyboard US 3G and be the first with WM7. I'll be first in line, or right behind you. Other niceness would be the new Qualcomm snapdragon, at least 8GB storage with Zune software, and my usual cry for the ultimate, an optical touchscreen ala WM surface... Mmmmmm
I am psyched. I hope there is a good bit of upgrade with WM6.5 and IEM6. I am holding out on a new phone (currently have HTC TyTN II) untill WM7.

My hope is that mid next year HTC comes out with a phone much like the Touch HD but with slide out keys for US 3G networks (ATT) and have WM7 with most if not all that has been "leaked". I'm a dreamer though, because I am still convinced that MS is going to bring there optical touch technology to phones ala mobile surface in one or two years, take that capacitive touch.
Curious, what do you think is a good/sexy looking car? If you say Nissan blah blah blah with big spoiler, under body neon light, green tinted windows to match its lime finish with black flames... then I can see why you wouldn't like this car and all its class.
Go MS. I think that 2009 is going to be a good year for them if they roll out W7 and WM7 and give most of what they promise.
@doctorSpoc

No arguments there. I was trying to get across that MS did fail with the interface, and I put off using WM for years, until I realized that Palm was just not going to give me anything new except colors.

My point is that they both fail.

MS was relaxed because they didnt see any real threat until the iPhone; but if Microsoft delivers on what I have read on what is to come with WM7, then Apple, RIM, and Google amongst others wont have the excuse of, well we dont sync with this, we cant cut and paste, etc, but at least we look and feel cooler than Windows Mobile.

Sorry
1. Just because Apple can make a cute interface doesn't make it light years ahead of anything. Microsoft has admitted that they concentrated on functions of the OS and not so much on using those functions. I have the M2D on my HTC TyTN II (much like the new HTC 3D interface on there new phones) and it is much more usable then the iPhones; though once you get past the interface admittedly, it is still WM6. I played with the iPhone and used a trial of an iPhone skin, and if you have a lot of applications you have screen after screen of icons only in some kind of self organization. Where is on the HTC interface you slide to what the main function you want, apps. weather, internet, and then go from there. I think it is much more streamlined. If the leaked photos of WM7 are true, they are going to have a similar system, but navigation through and through will be finger friendly and more user friendly.

2. Because MS spent most of its time figuring out what people need in a business phone / mobile organizer, WM 6 is light years ahead of the iPhone. Most of the faults people find in the iPhone are functions you have in most other smart phones for years. The fact that my crappy Toshiba WM PDA could *gasp* cut and paste eight years ago just makes the fact that the iPhone can’t that much more ridiculous. No my good friend, iPhone put a prety face and a nice browser on a device and forgot a heap of functions that have been around for years. Microsoft has it easy, they have the functionality, now all they need to do is streamline that bad boy.

3. Its the applications that make WM my choice (and used to be Palm). Drinking beer from my phone is cool and all, but the plethora of software available for my phone puts the iPhone app. store to shame. Sure there is one place to go for the iPhone apps. that is conveniently accessed. One, locked down, over controlled, innovation stomping place to get your iPhone lighter.

4. I do think this is the future, and I am stoked. Microsoft will work with HTC and others to bring there surface technology to a phone size and then all your capacitive and resistive touchy feely screens will be old news. The fact that MS has this technology alredy puts them in a good lead to be first to bring this to a phone. Finger friendly? Yes. Styless friendly? Yes. Multi touch you ask? Yes. I wont go on to what you could do with an optical touch screen on a phone, but just give it a try yourself, it is awesome.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I just switched to Sprint from Verizon about three months ago for the Pre. Then I went for the Hero about a week ago. Now, I miss my hardware keyboard and am thinking about switching to the Moment. I am still able to switch back to Verizon if I want and get the Droid when it arrives. Should I just trade up to the Moment when it comes out, see if I like it, and if not switch to the Droid? Or something else entirely? Help!"
