I believe the original article said that it was partially isolated in the engine compartment and also employed liquid cooling. Very sophisticated and VERY expensive.

I don't think any F-150 on the planet will get the gas mileage of this car. My '04 S500 regularly gets mid to upper teens in the city and mid twenties on the highway. I have a running average of 21 mpg for the last 1500 miles. Throw in that this has a smaller engine with much smaller tires (mine are 255/19 and 275/19) and it is entirely believable.

I can't believe that no one has posted on this. Everyone acts like people should go out and buy a new car to reduce their consumption. It's much easier to join a van pool.

I have been in a van pool for a little over a year. It currently costs about $107/mo. I was spending $260/mo just for work. I tried to get friends to join, but nobody was interested. Gas prices have climbed, now we are full and there is a waiting list.

It is not poor design. It is just not designed for what you want. You don't build a car with every imaginable feature, that is super quiet and super rigid and have it weigh as little as a stripped Honda.

Cary said it right. You don't buy one of these because you wanted something else.

If you are shopping for an Integra Type R, you are not in the ballpark for a 7 series or an S class. If you were in that ballpark for a car like this, the price of gas would not be a concern.

The school buses in Louisville, Ky (Jefferson County Public Schools) all run on bio diesel. It is not the final solution, but it is a step in the right direction.

Also, note that they are using E100. In the US, we only get E85. The other 15% must be something that denatures the alcohol (usually gasoline - doh). E100 has an octane rating of about 128. Powerful stuff, but not the stuff that we will see at our pumps (100 - 105). Too bad. I would love to pull up to the pump, fill up, then pull out my jug labeled "xxx" and fill it up!
