FWIW, this update is only for Euro models, so don't bother firing up NSU or punching in *#0000# to check for the update if you're using the NAM model.
Is that why they also tested GSM 900/1800 and WCDMA 2100/900, Chris? And tell me, which networks in the US use those frequencies?

I've seen FCC reports that exclude testing of bands not used in the US and this isn't once of them. If it was, the aforementioned bands wouldn't have been tested. And that same Nokia spec sheet you posted also lists 640x360 as "QVGA".

Again, there is no quadband 3G phone on the market to date.
Did anyone at Engadget bother to read the FCC documents before posting this? The test result clearly shows it was only tested for 3 WCDMA bands, not 4. To date, there is NO quadband 3G radio used in any phone.
I'm going to give this one to Gizmodo. You already pay one bill for wireless service. You should not have to pay MORE and/or buy MORE equipment to be able to use that service.
Having used both the i8910HD (capacitive) and the N97 (resistive) extensively, I am sold on capacitive for 5th Edition. Really hoping Nokia announces a proper flagship with a capacitive touchscreen soon.
They're buy one get one at $49.99 down here in Atlanta.
"Apple's being pretty hypocritical by claiming on the one hand that the iPhone is at the forefront of a mobile revolution and then saying iPhone users can't figure out how Google Voice is different than the iPhone's built-in functionality on the other. Either your customers are paradigm-busting visionaries or they're not very smart at all, Apple -- you have to pick one."

Ha! No they don't! Apple knows that their "revolution" is being able to sell millions of iPhones to idiots.

Not that all iPhone users are idiots, don't get me wrong, but I've met more iPhone using idiots than I have iPhone geniuses.
@Matt, let's put it this way; if the capability IS there, Apple won't create an accessory for it until they find the best possible way to milk iPhone owners for as much money as possible. That'll include the an official announcement from their marketing militia, 1080p downloads available in iTunes, and a new dock at $50+. I don't know enough about Apple's pin connector to say whether or not it could handle the output, but in its current form, I doubt it.
First of all, you do all realize that watching a movie in 480x320 on the iPhone is NO DIFFERENT than watching a movie in 1920x1080 on the SAME RESOLUTION SCREEN, right?. Of course you did, moving on...

What medium cable does everyone expect to use if 1080p output can be achieved on an iPhone? Some magical Apple pin connector>HDMI?! The best quality you could possibly get is to use the Apple component TV-out connector, and even that lowers the quality to make 1080p worthless (though possible over component, very unlikely).

Cool idea though, just remember to keep things in perspective. OmniaHD owners are killing themselves trying to watch 720p movies on their nHD screens without knowing any better (the "n" stands for NOT).
Amazon has the WEP870 for $49.99 right now with free shipping. Perfect timing, as I was just starting to have problems with my 2-year-old Nokia BH-602's with my i8910HD.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I just switched to Sprint from Verizon about three months ago for the Pre. Then I went for the Hero about a week ago. Now, I miss my hardware keyboard and am thinking about switching to the Moment. I am still able to switch back to Verizon if I want and get the Droid when it arrives. Should I just trade up to the Moment when it comes out, see if I like it, and if not switch to the Droid? Or something else entirely? Help!"
