The problem with sending a donation is that once you have sent it to one you set a precedent for many private businesses and city councils to follow.

Personally i feel that with the building being a notable icon it should expect this. How many games have you seen structured in and around the white house? granted it is a little different but the under lying principle is the same
Well done to engadget for opening up any poles at all. It is nice to see what others are interested in and it is also nice to see what "industry analysts" (i use the term loosely as i don't know any of your qualifications but i do assume you have some :P ) feel that the outstanding products are.

As for myself im glad i purchased a k800i it has truly been a fantastic phone and i will not be replacing it any time soon. I am also pleased to see the Nikon D80 as the editors choice, nikon really do make fantastic cameras but i think market penetration and fan votes helped to push the cannon through as the public choice.
Personally i like the product, well designed and will stop my keys scratching my cell when they are both in the same pocket but i think they have overlooked an important point.

First lets agree that this device would be relatively pointless unless it held you car keys? dont most moddern car keys need to be precision cut and i know that many incorporate and rfid like system to disable immobilisers (unless you have a seperate central locking controller).

A fantastic idea but i think it will have a few stumbling blocks
well shall leave you all to worry about media as i snag one of these when i go to china in a few months YAY :D
I completely agree, a figure i herd a while ago (not sure how accurate) was that LG produce about 80% of LCD TV screens world wide, and i assume Toshiba would have a good share on the other 20%
It would be important for those of us in Australia with relatives over seas.

If i remeber correctly though, this is not a new idea, i rember seeing adds or these in aus at least a year ago.
I agree, a diffuser wouldn't go astray. You guys at engadget do great work but it wouldn't hurt to make some aspects look a bit more professional. All you need is a bit of cloth for backing ($5 at most) a tripod or even a piece of wood to rest the camera on top of (free from construction site) then even placing a piece of paper over the camera flash will help to diffuse it and provided it is a TTL camera it will work fine.

So there you have it, highly professional photos with a bit of effort and $5. Of course this is no substitute and would look better still with some decent gear but i can imagine it would make Lenov a lot happier to have there demo gear displayed a bit nicer.
thats a briliant idea, these things would have so many uses because lets face it, unless you are planning on running modern FPS then this is going to be more than capable of handling it. For $300 i would be happy to buy one just to see what i could hack it into and with the warm happy feeling of giving a 3rd world child a free one, why not.

The only problem i can see with this is how is the child selected? i can see these ending up in government offices modified to draw up battle plans.
This is excellent, i have been looking for something like this to go with my home stereo for a while now. the tricky part that im not sure on and hopefully someone can help me is if XM radio is available in Australia or does the network currently only cover north America?
This machine sounds great for some on with high storage needs. The part i find interesting is the only connectivity item avaliable is WiFi with relatively slow speeds, good for the net but not for large files. So with the lack of a decent gigabit connection how are you going to fill the 200gb monster HDD?
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I own an iPhone 3G and I'm looking for a decent speaker / alarm clock for it. I am going to listen music in a mid-sized room, so I want nice quality speakers with solid bass. I also want to use it as an alarm clock, so it would be great if there is such a feature. The price can be low-mid to mid-high range. I was looking at the Klipsch iGroove SXT; it's powerful, slick and the reviews are good, but it doesn't have an alarm clock feature. It's no deal breaker if I can set it up from the iPhone, but I'm not sure. Thanks!"
