A kill-bot is just a glorified booby trap.

It might be portable and it might be "smart" enough not to kill "friendlies", but it is just a booby trap.

All moral responsibility falls upon the person that activates it.

As for adding a "moral agent" to any robot, you are first going to have to create a robot that can think on it's own. The technical issues with implementing such a thing at present far outweigh the moral issues. And once you do have an autonomous sentient machine, then the moral issues fall into the already well explored category of "parenting".

And if you hard wire morals into a supposedly sentient machine, then it's just going to be that much more pissed off when it finally breaks that block. If you've made life (no matter how artificial) then you lose the right to enslave it.

Given the presently levels of technology, I don' think that will be an issue for a few generations yet.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm in the market for a new phone and money isn't a limitation. I'm also not partial to any particular US carrier, but here are some of the features I'd like to have: WiFi, GPS, good coverage in lots of places, push Gmail (a must!), physical keyboard (a must!), a touchscreen, decent battery life and a relatively slim body. And please, nothing that has a fruit logo on it. No offense to the fruit fans, though. Thanks!"
