actually your kind of wrong, and kind of right. The HTC Universal has a screen size of 3.6" diagonal, that would make it the same size as the Touch Pro 2. Additionally Turn on your Universal and observe the padding on the border of the display, there's is a significant amount of screen real estate which are not occupied by pixels, that padding is far less narrower on newer device like the TP2, hence giving you more real estate.
@ David
Umm, your comment is false. The HTC Universal has a 3.5" display while the TP2 (touch pro 2) has a 3.6" display and considerably thinner, and smaller in "all" dimensions compared to the the

Don't get me wrong, the HTC universal was a kick ass phone (I owned 4 of em' myself) but it was a clunky device, If you can live with that then the Touch Pro 2 will a breeze.

BTW have you ever even held a TP2?
(Sarcasm)
Don't you guys get it,
Look, it's simple, any device with a:
resistive screen = sluggish, slow, and unresponsive
screen smaller than 3.5" = too small
screen bigger than 3.5" = unnecessary
device thicker than 11.6mm = bulky/chubby
device thinner than 11.6mm = awkward
device longer than 115mm = too lbig
device shorter than 115mm = cramped

But my favorite:
Device attempts to match these specs (and is not an iPhone) = KIRF! Knock off! Rip Off!
Meizu M8 = My point

Can't wait for the Nokia n900 (T-Mobile US 3G FTW!)
Currently using HTC touch HD...

I can't wait till this phone comes out, I hope the rumors about it coming out for T-Mobile prove to be accurate. Anyone got confirmation?
This phone was ridiculously delayed, it seemed like it took over a year. After announcing it, the iPhone 3g was confirmed/released, the Samsung Omnia was confirmed/released, the Touch HD was confirmed, the Diamond Pro was confirmed/released and the G1 was confirmed/released. This thing was slooow to the market. All the hype faded away.
WOW, 6.9M people have not heard about the G1? They need to market it better I guess, because there's no way anyone who knows about the G1 would purchase this. :p.

I couldn't resist, I have no real gripe with the iPhone though (it's innovative device indeed!). Rock on!
Wow, your comment was like my my biography, except for the fact that I'm not married (being a device geek before I was legally old enough to get married probably prevented that), otherwise you hit it right on the head.

"After all of the studying, obsessing, reviewing, wondering and waiting, I know Ill feel that certain emptiness that only comes when I'm finally holding the thing in my hands." - routb3d. Perfectly put

I'm studying for my CCNA, but I've been putting more hours into studying the G1 (I'm Pathetic!!!!)
Thanks for calling out "English Idiots" for me guys. I was rushing my comment, responding while my office phone was ringing - trying to see if I could get my post out before my phone went to voicemail. Either way, thanks for putting him in his place.

And, I can't believe he actually scans posts looking for typos, get a life dude.
I'm supposed to be getting my on wednesday, so excited. To give my XDA Flame a much needed break,
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I just switched to Sprint from Verizon about three months ago for the Pre. Then I went for the Hero about a week ago. Now, I miss my hardware keyboard and am thinking about switching to the Moment. I am still able to switch back to Verizon if I want and get the Droid when it arrives. Should I just trade up to the Moment when it comes out, see if I like it, and if not switch to the Droid? Or something else entirely? Help!"
