Rush references FTW.
@3DSteve These are not mutually exclusive things. AT&T and Verizon can run ads taking shots at each other AND upgrade their networks. In fact, CapEx spending on network infrastructure comes out of a vastly different bucket than ad buys.

In conference calls w/investors AT&T has admitted they know where their network needs work -- NYC, LA, SFO in particular -- and are working on infrastructure improvements.
I use MeGUI and love it.

Most of the recommendations here involve Matroska (.mkv) containers, and while that's my favorite container, it's of no use for PS3 and Xbox 360 playback (assuming we're not transcoding with TVersity or the like).

In that case you pretty much have to go MP4 w/x264 for video and 2-channel AAC for audio (Xbox 360 won't play 5.1 audio from an MP4, only from AVI or WMV...but AVI is worthless for H.264 video, and WMV is, well, WMV).
Honestly, I would really, really love to win this contest. :)
Isn't a Nikon D2X a bit...overkill? Why such a beefy/expensive camera?

Well, that's government for you.
Fix the global economy? Easy. Remove barriers to trade and labor flow. Sorted.

Now gimme my kb and mouse! :)
@Jake: this is why non-lawyers shouldn't hand out advice on the Internet.

It is NOT legal to make a copy for backup purposes or format shifting if the content is encrypted. Go read the DMCA. Yes, it does seem to conflict with fair use, but it hasn't been struck down by any court.

I agree that the whole idea of paying for managed copy is stupid, and I have no interest, but you should be aware that using AnyDVD or some other method to decrypt/rip your Blu-Ray (or DVD, or...) is a violation of the DMCA and against the law.
Hardly surprising. This was the guy who ranted that he wouldn't do Transformers II with Paramount because they dropped Blu-Ray, then suddenly changed his mind after meeting with Paramount execs.

Not my first choice to be a spokesperson for anything.
Swag! Swag! I can't get enough! AAaaahhhhhh!
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I own an iPhone 3G and I'm looking for a decent speaker / alarm clock for it. I am going to listen music in a mid-sized room, so I want nice quality speakers with solid bass. I also want to use it as an alarm clock, so it would be great if there is such a feature. The price can be low-mid to mid-high range. I was looking at the Klipsch iGroove SXT; it's powerful, slick and the reviews are good, but it doesn't have an alarm clock feature. It's no deal breaker if I can set it up from the iPhone, but I'm not sure. Thanks!"
