the option to pay $50 more for an option that should be free.

No thanks.
Woooo hoo I am there!!
I got one this morning and I am loving it.
Pros:
The obvious -> MMS, copy/paste, 3.2 MP camera, video

Screen as button functionality is perfect for me. This is my first touch screen device and I find that the learning curve for the iphone was quite unforgiving. Sometimes i'd hit the wrong letter or inadvertantly hit the wrong link while browsing. That is a pain when navigating the web especially because then its busy rendering a new page when you jsut want to go back. Here you don't commit until you push down. This is purely a taste thing, not better or worse than the iPhone, but I prefer this greatly.

Removable microSD card. It's a big deal for me to be able to get media on and off this phone as easily as possible. I don't want to HAVE TO go through some app, I don't want to have anything manage my media for me, thanks.

Broswer does pretty good. Renders pages nicely. Haven't doe TOO much browsing on it, but it's def a step up from most other platforms (most notably WM. I tried to browse the web on a friends HTC touch pro and I was disgusted. Horrible load times, horrible navigation) The web browser needs a little work, but THIS IS A TELEPHONE WE ARE TALKING ABOUT! we've been spoiled by the promise of full internets in our pockets but I don't need to do extensive browsing on my cell phone, maybe just enough to look things up and poke about.
It's on Verizon - The network makes this a great PHONE. Again as much as I love the iPhone, that whole PHONE functionality is not so good. (as reported by plenty of friends) Haven't moved around much but I have never had any problems with verizons network in terms of coverage and reception

Cons:
It's on Verizon - VZ Nav!! I hate verizon's crippling the mapping capability of this thing by putting it's craptastic POS navigation app. Is there a google map app for BB?

It's on Verizon - Visual voicemail is available but YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR IT!!

email - I'm new to blackberry's so the mail app, while probably well loved by BB enthusiasts, I find to be pretty lame. Having been spoiled by the crisp and smooth functionality of gmail, it seems rather wretched to look at an Outlook type inbox.

I haven't gotten to really jam on this thing but i am very happy with my purchase. I'm new to the blackberry OS but one of the biggest gripes about big red is their shit hole of a disgusting firmware. I like the network. HATE the software. While Verizon does find a way to stick the knife into my back while I was not looking, they don't have full reign to cripple this phone. (Or do they??!?!?)

The most important things for me in a cell phone are it's use as a PHONE, followed by SMS, then MMS, then email, then browsing. While the kudos get lower towards the end of that stream, It covers my biggest needs perfectly.
Since this is on Verizon, what are the chances that big red is going to cripple some functions on the Storm.
Besides the already crippled maps of coarse. (VZ Nav mapping)

Speaking of which, can we use any other apps for navigation?
xBox 360... weeezzzleeeeyyyy
What are the chances of seeing this on VZW this year?
Will it play Dig Dug?
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"With all the new multitouch capable monitors coming out, which one is the best? With the release of Windows 7 I really want a touchscreen monitor for my desktop. I'm looking to get a Full HD monitor that supports multitouch and can still look great during gaming and movies. Which one has the best specs for the price?"
