wifi tethering is for those occasions when you are not by an available wifi connection, and thus you can use your phone's data connection and connect to your laptop via wifi, without the need for bluetooth or a usb cable.
Or 60,000+ of the apps are redundant, crappy, hardly any functional use, or copies of each other.
Sprint has had this for over 2 years now. Web-based too.

Wow, this phone looked to have promise for whatever HD feature it had, but without any specific ideas, I guess this is going to be a pass.
...anyway, who else thinks this is more like a entertainment program than anything truly useful? Pac-Man aside.

I hope it comes to WebOS eventually.

"I just switched to Sprint from Verizon about three months ago for the Pre. Then I went for the Hero about a week ago. Now, I miss my hardware keyboard and am thinking about switching to the Moment. I am still able to switch back to Verizon if I want and get the Droid when it arrives. Should I just trade up to the Moment when it comes out, see if I like it, and if not switch to the Droid? Or something else entirely? Help!"
