Verizon doesn't lock its phones but once a CDMA phone has been activated, the phone is indeed locked to that carrier. Sprint and U.S. Cellular (Alltel?) do this. It can be unlocked if you get the sub-lock code from the carrier.
The red is not exclusive to Sprint. US Cellular will be selling a red and a burgundy V3m. Not sure if the US Cellular red V3m is tied to Bono's project.
If it sells well, you can bet $$ it will be made for CDMA. High-end phones to the masses sell because of looks not the OS. People need to stop being a bithead for a moment and view things from a marketing standpoint.
Who know if it will sell well but if it does half of what the RAZR has done, it will be considered a huge success.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I just switched to Sprint from Verizon about three months ago for the Pre. Then I went for the Hero about a week ago. Now, I miss my hardware keyboard and am thinking about switching to the Moment. I am still able to switch back to Verizon if I want and get the Droid when it arrives. Should I just trade up to the Moment when it comes out, see if I like it, and if not switch to the Droid? Or something else entirely? Help!"
