Bummer...

Still waiting for a four port, induction charger (so I don't have to take the sleeves off, or carve them up).
That is at a reasonable price. $50 is a good price for a 4 dock charger (IMHO).

Can you carry that around on your hip?
And make phone calls with it?

You pay for what you get, and what you want.
Don't compare it to something it isn't.
I attended the BlackBerry Developer Conference last week.
One of the perks, we were given a new BlackBerry smart phone (Bold, Pearl-Flip, or voucher for a storm)

I opted for the Bold.
It is a significant upgrade from my AT&T 8700 series BlackBerry.
The 3G is great, and the wi-fi for other activities is just a major bonus.

It is lighter, better on battery.
The screen is AWSOME, and will give the iPhone and other players a run for their money on media playback.
The built in speaker on this phone is very powerfull for a mobile phone.

Easy access to the memory storage chip (not the SIM).

GPS Navigation all work pretty well too.

Is it worth the $650 to purchase without a contract, really depends on your hatred for contracts of if you want to use it on another network.

We had limited access to the Storm.
And just like the iPhone, with the Storm you are really going to need to like typing on the screen, and have the fingers to do it.
IMHO, the downside to the Storm: Verizon.
As confrimed by the thread you linked, this was NOT a software update issue.
The issue is related to started to something else.
Eric... who could use this?

DirecTV DVRs most certainly could with their eSATA connectors.
that 3TB, would give you about around 300hours of HD recording space.

And if this unit doesn't need much help from the computer on the eSATA connection, or doesn't need any special controllers..
Then it is plug and play with the DVRs out there.

Any idea on price?

The comment about the parking towers in Chicago...

They could adopt a similar to fashion you seen in CA... First floor has priority spaces for electric vehicals, and they can make the stations work there. As demand increases, and additional technology comes along (ie: pay-4-charging stations) you evaluate and implement.

You are talking conduit (and/or other protective coverings) to run copper wire. You could run it along the crack where the wall meets the floor or the roof. Or right accross. It's not like the parking towers are massive decorated, the vast majority or plain gray cement walls.

As for having to use the engine after the batter runs out... umm isn't that the purpose?
And if your tank runs out, then you just fill it up... like we have done for how many decades now?

I SERIOUSLY hope, that the production of these vehicals will be at a level, so that the dealers don't jack the price (Which is already going to be $35k - $40k), up to $50 or even higher... This car fits our daily usage pattern to a DIME. We will still have the mini-van for the longer family trips, but our day-to-day activites... I might have to worry about the gas going stale, before even using the engine.

I am treating my '98 Malibu, to help make it to 2010 so I can trade it in (or sell it) for a VOLT.

A simple 110 outlet in the garage, or up it to a 220... very simple, you park... you plug it in.
At this point, I am not even worried about plugging it in when I am away from home... as my usage level, will proably dictate that I will only have to at home. And in time, and if this takes off... I can easily see a "quick charge" station at some major energy stations (since we have more then just gas now)
Regarding the first runs:

The HR2* now has the first run date, in it's description: if it is available to the unit.
IE: The content provider has provided it in the guide data.

The HR2* used the First Air Date, in conjunction with the REPEAT flag, to determin if it is a first run or not.

While there are cases of it not working, typically they are trackable to specific programs or networks.
I have about 20 series links setup, for first run only. For shows that only aired repeats during the summer... they all didn't record anything, but now that the seasons are starting up... they are showing up in the todo list.

So lets not go painting the picture that the unit can not determin first run or not.
What it does, is if it isn't clear, based on the guide data if it is a first run or not: It records it. Easy enough for the user to delete if it was a repeat, impossible for the user to record if the broadcast is over.

Oh and the TiVo platform, has the similar issue with some shows (there are support forums that support that as well)

Just so you know, you can change your defaults
Menu->Manage Recordings->Rec. Defaults

You can set your default to any options available in the record menus.
For those commenting/compalining: "Yet another DVD playback device ..."

Our family Wii is in our Son's room.
With this "tweek" we can now have him watch DVDs in his room,
Instead of the main entertainment system, or via a laptop/computer (which are also primarily in the main room).

Think outside "your" world and understand that not everyone has the same setups as you do.

Could I have purchased a DVD player for his room... sure.
But now, I don't have to take up physical space for yet another device in his room.

With anything, it obviously will take some time before all the TSA checkpoints are trained and aware of the approved bags...

But from a travler that now carriers two laptops (one Windows, one Mac... and yes, I know I can run VMWare, but because of other reasons I can't).

It would be GREAT to be able to go through the experienced travler check-in line, just putting the laptop in-its-case into the tray and let it go through.

Thus all I have to worry about is basically my shoes and belt.

Cutting down from about 2ish minutes for the process, till less then a minute.

Multiple that by 100s of passengers at the busiest times at the busiest areas... it certainly will help significantly.

I am all for security, and don't really mind all the procedures...
And it will still boil down to the people looking at the monitors and doing their job.

If they are not 100% certain, all they have to do is notify the rest of the staff and manual search is done.

Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I own an iPhone 3G and I'm looking for a decent speaker / alarm clock for it. I am going to listen music in a mid-sized room, so I want nice quality speakers with solid bass. I also want to use it as an alarm clock, so it would be great if there is such a feature. The price can be low-mid to mid-high range. I was looking at the Klipsch iGroove SXT; it's powerful, slick and the reviews are good, but it doesn't have an alarm clock feature. It's no deal breaker if I can set it up from the iPhone, but I'm not sure. Thanks!"
