The update also includes a manual "screen rotate" option... which effectively makes the Kindle 2 screen the same width as the DX (for easy PDF reading w/ vertical scrolling).

Also, the Land of Misfit Toys commercial had me laughing so hard I cried - then I wrote Santa a letter asking for better AT&T coverage (currently I can't maintain conversation at home OR work for more than a couple minutes without a seemingly random dropout - and I'm not even moving but SITTING THERE).

I love how the phone can just sit on my desk all day and go from 4 bars to 2 bars to No Service and back like magic. *sigh*

I've been using the OCZ NIA (Neural Impulse Actuator) for a couple years now and it already does all this - and very well, I might add. Once you get the hang of it (takes about a month of regular use), using it to do stuff like issue commands in R6:Vegas, Arma2, and Operation Flashpoint:Dragon Rising kicks copious amounts of ass.

Man, between this and the new ETF policy, Verizon is getting GREEDY. And I thought AT&T was bad. Turns out they're maybe not so bad after all.

Being able to store/download/access files from my iPhone (ie: an accessible file system of any kind) is one of my 3 remaining complaints against the iPhone. In all, the complaints are now:
1. TETHERING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (yes, AT&T is at fault - but I don't care).
2. Adobe Flash (as a web developer, I LOATHE Flash - but I still want it on my damn phone).
3. Native file system/ability to copy files onto/off of the phone via USB and even view some (documents, etc).

I use AirSharing Pro for #3 currently, but native support would be nice.

Oh, and some of that free Google Navigation action too, please. TomTom can go fuck themselves in their greedy, sandy assholes.

Oh well, all these smartphones always seem to miss something important - but no multitouch? That's sort of a major oversight. I was sort of intrigued by the DROID, too. *sigh*

Although with Verizon's new doubled ETF BS, I wouldn't consider buying a smartphone on their network for an instant. Damn shame. :-/

THANK YOU GOOGLE! I love that Google is single-handedly saving capitalism by forcing greedy bastards like TomTom and Garmin to rethink their economic strategies. When the only difference between a $100 GPS and a $500GPS is a few bits of data disabling features in the cheaper unit... then there's a problem.

I can't wait until Google gets into the healthcare business.

In a few important ways, this does seem to beat Kindle.

1) Touchscreen ui (even if it *is* only the little screen on the bottom - still not full-on touchscreen with handwriting capabilities that we SHOULD have).
2) The "Lending" feature.
3) It reads PDFs >>natively

So technophobic old bookworms don't want to give up their dead trees for some newfangled e-whatchamacallit, huh? Big surprise there.

Maybe the old bastards should just retire and let in some fresh blood. Ideally, people who see the advantages in technological progress.

Still, Kindle is a bit ungainly to use, especially when trying to make selections using that clunky little cursor nub. Touchscreen would solve just about all the problems left, though... easy selections, handwritten notes... so maybe Kindle DX2?
