As others have pointed out, the iPOD's seven year domination is certainly no 'fluke', and while Apple's growth is at 29% Microsoft's is at 2%.

It seems to me that the company that is exciting consumers is Apple. When was the last time MS made something that really got people talking? Unless they were talking about Microsoft's bizzare Gates / Seinfeld commercials or how crappy Vista is, there is little buzz being generated by MS.
Another me-too copy of the surface of the iPhone, but with none of the design philosophy that went into its ease of use.

Got a cell phone? Then they're already tracking your every movement.

You know how credit card companies call you if your spending habits change? Who do you suppose gets alerted when your movement patterns change?

As much as I like Apples hardware, I would love to have a cheap brute-force machine for rendering Final Cut video, and similar tasks. Plus, since this thing is removable I could transfer it to my next cheap box in a year.

Devices festooned with buttons are exactly what Apple's design philosophy avoids. Even the iPod generation one had far fewer buttons than its competitors, and that was a lot of what made it easy to use.

I expect that Engadget links will take me to a series of words that will have something to say. This doesn't even qualify as an article as it appears to be utterly pointless.
Although the title 'Genius list' makes me cringe, especially after some of my experiences with the 'Genius bar', those lists are actually very useful and have made my old music collection seem new again.

I was very underwhelmed by everything at this event except the Genius list:

Looks like a good update to me, but overall todays announcements were pretty underwhelming.

It would be nice to see MS integrate their hardware and software even half as well as Apple does, but that is not the only thing that makes Apples products better. Its true that the usability of the 360 is not bad, but I'd hardly say it is equal to Apple.

Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm looking for a solid state drive, around 32 to 64GB, for use in my web server. The drive will contain my web sites and the operating system, either Windows Server 2008 R2 or Ubuntu. Large storage is handled by a separate RAID array, so capacity is not an issue. Rather, I am looking for the fastest, longest-lasting, and most reliable drive under $150 that is suitable to my application. Any thoughts? Thanks!"
