Hate to tell you but the CRTC auction isn't going to change a thing. There's no requirement for anyone bidding on a slice of spectrum to actually use it for anything once they got it. I suspect most bidders will simply sit on it for a few years until Rogers has enough money to buy up the company and then get hold of the extra frequency.
You know shit about Symbian. It has changed more in the last 3 years then the 5 years preceeding and the rate of change is accelerating. Just because S60 looks more or less the same now as a year and half ago doesn't mean it's all the same under the hood. Your statement is as factual as saying Windows95 and Windows2000 are the same since they both have a 'start' button.
Don't worry alex. Making your own UI for Symbian would not only break most applications (both UIQ and S60) but also make Cingular a defacto Symbian licensee with their own variant.

Not to mention it's a non trivial affair to do that.
AMPS (introduced in 1984) was not the first cellphone system in the world. NMT (Nordic Mobile Telephone) was operating three years earlier, in 1981.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I just switched to Sprint from Verizon about three months ago for the Pre. Then I went for the Hero about a week ago. Now, I miss my hardware keyboard and am thinking about switching to the Moment. I am still able to switch back to Verizon if I want and get the Droid when it arrives. Should I just trade up to the Moment when it comes out, see if I like it, and if not switch to the Droid? Or something else entirely? Help!"
