Why do people still talk to paul? seriously?
You can tell that he is a complete dumbass douchebag by reading one of his comments. Just one.
So please, for everyone's sakes, just ignore the idiot apple troll, so he doesn't get what he wants.. more attention from everyone..
I haven't been in the comments for about a month or so now, and that kid is saying the exact same crap he's been saying for months.
Please.. everyone just ignore him. PLEASE
I don't think making the UI prettier will make WM any more easy to use. Sure functionality is great, but how do you get that same functionality in a better looking OS? Definitely not by just making the OS a little prettier. I think it's quite obvious that the new BB OS, while it may look slightly better, is still the old piece of junk, only text, java based OS it used to be. You need to start fresh, and think of the OS in an entirely new way, which is what Palm did with the Pre and WebOS. What WM needs to do, is start thinking about a new, fresh, innovative way of using an OS, while still keeping the functionality in there somewhere.

For myself, I am going to pick up a Pre as soon as it sells, because that is the balance I've been waiting for; good functionality with even more new functionality that doesn't even exist in BB or WM or any other mobile OS, while still looking sleek and sexy like an iPhone (which no one else has been able to do until now. iPhone is very sexy, but piece of crap when it comes to usability, and both BB and WM look so bad I have a hard time looking at it long enough to use it, WM more than BB).
ok.. this is obviously Apple being scared because they actually have competition that does what they do, and more. Until now, they could use "multi-touch" as their little gimmick that gave them on edge compared to their competition, but now the Pre also has said gimmick. I, for one, am very excited for the Pre, and can't wait until it is finally being sold. This was the phone that I've been waiting for; the one that I would throw my iPhone against the wall for!
@kilgoretrout - they have.. it's just only on those piece of crap, chinese, copy-any-well-known-phone phones. lol.
I'd like to say.. Shame on YOU! I have a few reasons.

1) For being so stupidly biased against the iPhone. It is good at what it does, but not good at everything. Like any other phone.

2) If you've been up to date about the posts (and podcast) on Engadget about the Pre, you'd already know that they LOVE the Pre, and Joshua Topolsky is literally in love with the Pre (and so am i!!!!!). And since you do not know this, SHAME! for supposedly being a long time reader and not knowing this (i guess that COULD happen), but more for supposedly being a Palm lover and not being up to date about the posts on the Pre.

None of the points posted in the above Engadget post has to do with the main drool-inducing aspects of the phone, and take away nothing from its amazing/sexiness. Engadget knows this, I know this, and I'm sure many other readers know this. Why, Palm-lover, do you not know this?
@haydur - lol seriously, if you listen to the podcast on the Pre, Josh Topolsky is like going crazy for the Pre and the entire podcast, all three of them (Paul Miller, Nilay Patel, Josh Topolsky) have nothing but good things to say about the Pre.

Anyway, Pre ftw! Can't wait......
lol.. DEFINITELY my iPhone is NOT the "Best known phone" on this planet.
I has features that it's best at compared to all other phones at the moment, such as the games, safari (except for ANNOYING CRASHES), and media aspects, but definitely NOT the best.
You need to take the phone for what it is. I love my iPhone when I'm bored or on the can, because it has some seriously fun games. And I've tried using different phones for web (tried BB bold, javelin, and some Nokia phones) but none match the ease of use of the iPhone, and I gotta say.. truthfully? I don't ENJOY using the browsers of these other phones compared to the iPhone.

Now as for some efficiency to get some serious work done, I really cannot use the iPhone. While you're in a certain app, or doing one thing it is perfectly fine, but every SINGLE time I need to do something else, I need to take like 5+ taps to get to it and come back. And all the little animations and things like that just make the device slow. It takes forever to do multiple things on the iPhone and that's why the Pre looks so GOOD!!!

People say that the BB is great for work, and I admit it is. But other than solid email, it is not AMAZING at multi-tasking either. Now the iPhone just purely sucks, as I've stated above. But on the BBs, although it is POSSIBLE to multi-task, and quite usable, it still keeps you at one app. You start writing a new email? If you want to go somewhere else, or start another new email, or do something else, you either finish it and send it off, or save it. You're still stuck with one app at a time.

Finally, the Pre puts together exactly what I was looking for. Solid multi-tasking and efficiency in its UI with its innovative notification system, a solid web browser with multi-touch capabilities to allow for an enjoyable online experience, even more innovative cloud experience (that doesn't exist in any other device at the moment) with Synergy, and does this all with sex appeal (unlike the clunky G1). It finally takes a work phone like BBs and a fun phone like iPhone, and squashes it together into an interesting, innovative, good looking phone!

Now, I'll probably keep my iPhone around as, at the moment, the games and apps available on the appstore are unmatchable in any other handset (like stated above in the Engadget post) but the Pre will definitely become my daily handset. I CAN'T WAIT!!!
@Ian - Really? If the PRE counts as 7/10 on the iPhone scale, I can't give the iPhone anything higher than 4.9/10
I am falling in love with this device.
There are so many stupid idiotic quirks with MY iPhone that at times make me want to literally chuck it at a wall.
When I want to do things quick and efficiently, I have to wait for long load times.
This PRE is finally what the iPhone SHOULD have been.
Now, there will still be things that the iPhone will be better at, mostly games and media aspects,
but then again, in this Engadget post, it says Palm might release a more display layer, so there is still hope.

In any case, this phone kicks the BB OS' ass when it comes to efficiency and connectivity. Now the only thing BB has is its BIS/BES. It still doesn't do IMAP perfectly, and HTML emails definitely need work. So if this new PRE does these things well, then BB has a hell of a lot of catching up to do. On the other side, the media aspects seem very comparable to the iPhone, and the browser seems even better than the iPhone. One of the reasons I'm keeping my iPhone is because of its media (video and games) capabilities and the browser. If PRE has a better browser, then it will definitely become my next device, replacing my current BB Javelin and iPhone 3G.

It will finally be that one device that does everything well, does phone aspects exceptionally, is efficient for using for work, but still has good media and great browser. It will definitely become my daily device.

Now.. let's just hope that from now until the actual release date, Palm doesn't screw it up. Which it doesn't seem like they will, as they have so much of the phone done right up at this point. I'm routing for you Palm!
No USA? Then come to CANADA!!
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I just switched to Sprint from Verizon about three months ago for the Pre. Then I went for the Hero about a week ago. Now, I miss my hardware keyboard and am thinking about switching to the Moment. I am still able to switch back to Verizon if I want and get the Droid when it arrives. Should I just trade up to the Moment when it comes out, see if I like it, and if not switch to the Droid? Or something else entirely? Help!"
