As much as I don't agree with the loss of direction that Nokia has shown as of late; I seriously doubt it will dwell into the Linux code any deeper than with Maemo. Any speculation from insiders or outsiders is pure speculation and wishful thinking; only brought on by the "new" factor that Android and WebOS have brought to the table... Besides, you don't invest millions in purchasing off all Symbian assets; just to abandon it to other manufacturers. It is more likely that other companies will look further into what Nokia can offer them, and Nokia's recent aquisitions and expansion is testament of that. For example does: Navteq, Trolltech, OZ messaging, ring a bell to anyone? In my opinion, Nokia is just making sure that it's software and hardware development and offerings expand beyond it's own market footprint. A wise business decision in the long run; one that will payoff big time once handset manufacturing becomes a commodity on all levels(basic, smartphones, MID's)...
Exactly, the writer of this article is not only biased towards Apple's OS, but dislikes Symbian for not given it proper credit on various comparisons. Further I agree, why he made comparisons on OS's that aren't even out yet. I think WebOS is a great new OS from what has been released about it, but I've yet to make an opinion considering no publicly available unit is out yet. And, how is display technology comparable only in resistive/capacative style and not brightness/colors presentation such as LCD and OLED?
Nokia will always deliver more for the money!
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm in the market for a new phone and money isn't a limitation. I'm also not partial to any particular US carrier, but here are some of the features I'd like to have: WiFi, GPS, good coverage in lots of places, push Gmail (a must!), physical keyboard (a must!), a touchscreen, decent battery life and a relatively slim body. And please, nothing that has a fruit logo on it. No offense to the fruit fans, though. Thanks!"
