My HTC Touch Pro gets really warm-hot when the screen is on for a long period of time, when Im using GPS or when I have been on a call for 10 minutes or longer.
I just thought that the white covers turned different colors based on the amount of heat its exposed to... kind of like a mood ring.

Exactly. Aside from the Storm, all of their phones have looked the exact same for the past few years. How this is any different from the iPhone that has had the same looks in the last 3 years beats me. Its not visually pleasing to have 6+ models that look the exact same.
If this is working on the Touch, its only a short time until it works on the Touch Diamond (Pro). In other words, sweet!

"I'm in the market for a new phone and money isn't a limitation. I'm also not partial to any particular US carrier, but here are some of the features I'd like to have: WiFi, GPS, good coverage in lots of places, push Gmail (a must!), physical keyboard (a must!), a touchscreen, decent battery life and a relatively slim body. And please, nothing that has a fruit logo on it. No offense to the fruit fans, though. Thanks!"
