So the Storm 2 will not launch tomorrow. It has been delayed by VZW. They have not set a new launch date, and last check of the inventory system showed none in Stock. But it is coming and it is coming soon...
No, no big gap. At least not in my area. We still sell all the Storms from a single shipment week to week. By far the most popular phone in our store. It's a good phone that got a bad rap. Storm 2 will be the best Blackberry period I think. This sale is starting because of the Tour and to drive Data Revenue... if you haven't been paying attention to the stories recently, Data Revenue is where its at for all the carriers now.
One problem with this idea. A LOT of customers want free phones and to change phones every year or whatever. That can't and won't happen with no contracts. Customers will have to pay a large price for just standard phones and they won't want to do that. Contracts aren't going anywhere and if they do... a lot less people will have cell phones because they will no longer be affordable. Plus price will go up because of the consistent churn and the porting of numbers. Lets quit complaining so much about some of these things that help keep prices down and competitive and worry more important things.
I can only speak about iheartradio. I installed it on both a curve and pearl at work. On the curve it worked fantastically. It would be nice if the local stations gps locator would work a little farther out. I'm 30 miles from Columbus, OH and when I select local stations, it won't even find Columbus. Other than that it worked great. Connected immediately. Sounds great. As for the Pearl I haven't had the same luck. After a minute or two the stream quits. I'm not sure if this is the Pearl itself or not because when the music ceases to work, so does all EVDO on the handset and I have to pull the battery. I don't know if this is the VZW firmware or if its the app or just the phone itself.
So the Versa never actually made it onto our stores displays, but it was a pretty big hit today. Being a Sunday I didn't have the chance to show it to many people and we are a low traffic store anyways. I know that 2 of them in our store were sold. But everybody I showed it to today loved it. 2 of the ones I showed it to were eligible for upgrades. One of them got it and the other ended up with the Storm. It was definitely a hit in our store. People loved the novelty of the removable keyboard, but I think the biggest thing about it was that it was like a Voyager but a lot smaller. If we just made different keyboard attachments to allow for different looks and finishes I think everyone would love this thing.
Oh and one more thing... the instructions for setup of the HUB was supposed to come out next week. I believe from the 22nd to the 25th based on the most recent e-mail communication we had.
So, you want to know what the Hub is? It's quite simple. For those of you that have Cable Internet or FIOS and Verizon Wireless service, you can drop your home phone line through the cable company or your phone company. You can use DSL but unless you get a good deal on DSL without the phone line it won't make as much sense. With The HUB you get a cordless VOIP phone and the "corkboard" as you referred to it. It will allow you to use VZWs Chaperone, it is a digital photo frame, it will allow you to make unlimited domestic calls, anyone with VZW service will be able to call your new "home phone" and its included in mobile to mobile minutes. You can plan trips and send them to your phone with VZ Navigator, News, Sports, and other VCast Content. There is a crap load and can do and quite frankly as a tech in a Verizon store I'm excited about this. As long as it works like its supposed to(and I don't see why it won't) it's going to be a great way for Verizon Wireless to be a nearly complete service provider. Coupled with Verizon Communications FIOS Internet and TV and you have one bill for everything and it blows away AT&T U-Verse or any other option by any cable/phone company.
I love it when people talk about things they know little about. Here's the deal with the Boulder. There was complaints of sound quality on the Boulder which VZW listened to. They had PCD Formerly known as UT Starcom formerly known as Audiovox(you know the people that ACTUALLY manufacture the phone... casio just brands the thing) work on a better speaker and VOILA the front speaker was born. Now if you currently own a Boulder and would like the front speaker its real easy to get one. Step 1 make sure you have Push To Talk active on your phone. Step 2 walk into a Verizon Wireless store. Step 3 complain to the technician or rep that you can't stand the sound quality and you heard there was a replacement boulder with a better speaker. Step 4 Give tech/rep your correct shipping address. Step 5 Sign a few things. Step 6 Go home and wait two days for your beautiful new Boulder to arrive. (now mind you this is the way it is in the midwest. Outside of the midwest I haven't a clue) And as for the 2 batteries, if I walk into the inventory room when I get to work tomorrow and open a G'Zone Boulder I will find 2 batteries inside. It's not just a B2B thing... at least not in the midwest anyways....
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm in the market for a new phone and money isn't a limitation. I'm also not partial to any particular US carrier, but here are some of the features I'd like to have: WiFi, GPS, good coverage in lots of places, push Gmail (a must!), physical keyboard (a must!), a touchscreen, decent battery life and a relatively slim body. And please, nothing that has a fruit logo on it. No offense to the fruit fans, though. Thanks!"
