May my nets be full... with this thing!
That is frickin' awesome! I hope he plays well with the Onyxian Whelpling.
Ahem, mindless attack of the blogger?

Nowhere does this post defend the exploding of iPods (a problem which has been around for quite a while with most consumer electronics, by the way, not just iPods. Laptop batteries and power 'bricks' are famously very prone to 'splosions).

And he's right, Apple have done nothing wrong. Confidentiality agreements are of course standard procedure. And hey - who says it's a confidentiality agreement about the faulty iPod she had? Maybe it's to make them keep schtum about the fact that they're offering her an out-of-warranty refund and they don't want everyone to feel that they deserve one.

If I was Apple, with a product that had a 1 in a metric zillion chance of being explosively faulty when used, I'd want to keep that under wraps as much as possible. I'd then use the incident to breathe down the necks of my manufacturer to make them take greater care (because this is clearly not a design defect), threatening to take my very valuable contract elsewhere.
That can't be right. Not all iPhone users have MobileMe, so why would they include a useless app that 90% of people can't/won't use?

(The Contacts app is an exception...)
(I didn't mean to imply it was intentionally misleading.)

I've been running iPhone 3.0 (have had the same device for a year) since it was seeded to developers and have never seen this message. There have been plenty of occasions where I've redownloaded an app that I've paid for already without trouble.

I think the language "this device" is very telling. Perhaps you are using the same device, but a different device identifier than the one used for the original purchase (even if the app itself is free, it's still a purchase) is being sent to iTunes for the purchase that raises this message.
This will only apply to apps that were purchased using another device. Like, if you purchased something on your old iPhone and tried to redownload it for free on your new iPhone, it would charge you. You can still do it completely free from iTunes. This is a technical limitation, not Apple trying to screw you.

Very misleading headline.
I was so excited when I saw the 3GS announced, and I was even more excited when I saw the release date.

When I saw how much it would cost me to upgrade, however, I decided instantly against it. I will be getting whatever phone is awesome in 6 months time, when my contract ends.

AT&T, O2 and every other carrier that follows suit are losing a HUGE amount of business. There are 15 million iPhone 3G's out there, and only a very small amount of those 15 million will be upgrading. When their contracts are up, something else will take it's place as the best phone out there. I'll be getting that one.
I actually just had this happen to my mouse today. Using the paper works very well, but what I've found to be useful is to lick your finger and rub it over the scroll-nipple a little before rolling it over the paper (this fixed it instantly after about 10 minutes of unsuccessful paper rolling).
Also, I find it very unlikely that a Genius Bar Genius will know anything of future product releases.
It's Metal Gear Solid 5. Lest we forget, the (albeit clearly Engrish) Konami tagline for Metal Gear Touch: "A NEXT METAL GEAR".

In retrospect, I don't know if that point I made actually makes sense.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I've found myself using my PC for a lot of conversations lately, and I'm also considering recording a podcast to share with anyone who will listen. There are tons of USB headset / microphones out there, and I'm hoping someone has some solid recommendations based on experience. I'll consider both headsets and standalone mics, by the way, but I'd like to keep the bill under $100 if possible. Help!"
