I may be following you, maybe not. But I also was thinking this might have something to do with Apples desire to disable Palm/Itunes sync.
Be careful talking about the jailbroken mulitasking solution. It's really not all that.
It's funny to see all the ridiculous comments, shows how detached a lot of people are to the world around them. I know of a few veterans who would take this more seriously. Its also nice to see endgadget put something up that's not about cell phones and computers.
lol the USB-IF is like the UN. Let's see how much they do about it.
If its so illegal why hasn't Apple sued?
@Watcher, The way jailbreak executes multitasking is very inefficient. I jail broke my touch before buying the Pre and like you, rarely used the capability because it was inefficient, and I questioned how much I would use it on a Pre. With a jailbroken iphone you still have to come completely out of the app and into another one so there is still this exiting and entering routine. The swiping and minimizing make multitasking on the pre extremely efficient and I've found I typically have two or three apps running whenever I'm using the pre. I agree with many on the shortcomings of the Pre, however on multitasking and efficiency of UI, they real hit the ball out of the park.
I have to agree with TEG. I'm uncomfortable with American companies playing such an active rule in limiting freedoms. I don't know what the solution is, but it's definitely a tough call. Do I do what's best for the company or make a stand for the people. I would hope somebody would stand for the people.
I love the music icon, that old school record.
You should just say iphone and save the remaining eleven words to say iphone eleven more times!
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm in the market for a new phone and money isn't a limitation. I'm also not partial to any particular US carrier, but here are some of the features I'd like to have: WiFi, GPS, good coverage in lots of places, push Gmail (a must!), physical keyboard (a must!), a touchscreen, decent battery life and a relatively slim body. And please, nothing that has a fruit logo on it. No offense to the fruit fans, though. Thanks!"
