direct drive is better

belt drive = hideous unless you are only trying to listen to music
if you choose to continue being a dimwit (blindly) . . .no one can really save you . . . quit being a "moving target" your original argument is not the same as what youre preaching now. Its a mitigated form of the reasoning you had previously.

- - knob twisting that was 99% form and . . . fashion - - - doesnt exactly exude the aura of claims of difficulty

yes and some really intresting bands actually play with washboards and I would definitely consider them musicians i.e. r2d2 (sp?) the entire washboard music festival, and a lot of country music

. . . isnt it sorta myopic and ignorant to disclude these people as musicians?

No I'm not upset because it delegitimizes "me" as a musician. I'm a college student at a very decent school . . just trying to earn money on the side. I don't believe I'm a musician. Honest-to-God Musicians make far more dinero than I will ever - have far more prestige - and more passion for their art.

The rap artist that walks into the club will always headline any event - - - not me.

Many influential bands of the 90s i.e. linkin park have djs. Actually almost all major concerts have djs. The olympic opening ceremony in athens was lead by tiesto. Most of the major mainstream trance tracks in europe are made by beat producers/djs. If you listen to any hip hop (if you throw out an entire genre of music such as hip hop as garbage then theres probably . . . no saving you . . . hip hop is very relavent to pop culture (that is definitely an undeniable point)

there are 4 things that make up hip hop quoth bboy planet "djs - garfitti (which is definitely art - look to banksy) - mcing - breaking "

i dont even know really where to start with your argument about console gaming . .. but like the other thread i'm sure a lot of people will think youre being ignorant again. . .

Seeing as how people go to concerts just to listen to certain djs - - i'm pretty sure theyre not completely useless

Here's another example of a popular mix dj doing something intresting with tracks dj am - - watch the link

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IO9tOL8hcxs

btw you can definitely tell when a dj messes up . . . its not all about scratching . . . the entire club will stop dancing - trust me this has happened many-a-time to many-a-dj

if you dont beat match things exactly on dot . . . you willl hear tracks that arent at the right speed and will be bouncing all over the place . . . IT IS VERY noticable to anyone.

The only reason why your radio music transitions smoothly or your club dance music transitions from song to song smoothly is because of the dj

without a dj it would be really really really hard to dance at a club. . . as songs would just stop mid song.

a good dj will be able to keep the beat going and be able to move a stagnant crowd that refuses to dance

THEY ARE VITAL to the survival of a club

just think about that buddy. . . trust me . . they are skilled and are important. . . and you probably have no idea what youre talking about . . .so just stop . . you've probably never been behind 2 decks . . . and if thats a wrong infrence then i'm sorry but right now you just sound like a very ignorant person . . .
wow . . . please demonstrate your ignorance and stupidity some more. . .

djing is hard - - I would know. I am one.

It is not about knob twisting.

It is about blending tracks and beat matching songs *by ear* . . try this sometime . . this is something that takes years to learn. . . being able to hear the bpm of different tracks and being able to tell when they are perfectly in line is difficult . . .

scratching is an even more difficult task. . . youtube a qbert skratch video sometime . . . and try to replicate even a fraction of what they do . .

this is an artform that takes years to learn how to do. . . sorry buddy but you obviously know nothing about djing.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q6iGexp7Pn8

just watch that video and tell me how little skill is involved.
also you cannot use . . . . . fader nobs on a multitouch track pad

that is ludicrous 99% of scratching is derived from the tactile feel of an actual knob moving back and forth at ridiculous speeds with percission

its like trying to play a multitouch violin - it would be one of the dumbest concepts ever . .

any person that has ever scratched in their entire life will understand that it is impossible to scratch seriously on a multitouch surface

ABSENT - - the new midi and scratch controllers by stanton (which do feature a touch interface) and are more a novelty than a serious consumer item . . . this is plane stupidity.
@ capnshiner

and all those other people - - who have no idea what theyre talking about

I am also a dj I play at various clubs while in college

I am also a turntablist ( a scratch dj)

- - - it makes no sense to scratch on a non-moving platter or on a piece of paper.

THis destroys the whole feel of a turntable and scratching. THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO A SCRATCH OR A MIX DJ. The reason why we sitll use 12 year old TECHNICS turntables is because love the low wow and flutter and the 2 kg torque . . . even though WAY WAY WAY Better turntables have been made such as the pdx series by vestax.

THE INDUSTRY STANDARD IS SERATO SCRATCH LIVE . . . with a dash of traktor . . on the side

THIS iS AS USELESS as an ipod dj player . . . no serious dj would ever have any use for this. It makes no sense because traktor and serato do a 29830928390283092832 times better job of what this concept could ever do

even the cdxs by numark or the tascam roller thing does a better job

THis is useless . . . and will never amount commercially to anything

it is a garrage project that is fun to look at and nothing more
ibm really isnt all that in debt . . . at all it still remains one of (if not) the most profitable IT company in the world

sony makes infinitely higher profits than apple

sony have about 6 times the total assets of apple

I'm wondering how this is possible when they clearly have some upside down pricing schemes and sub-par products

am i just engadget brainwashed?

is it because of sony bmg and sony pictures etc. ? not their actual electronics?
compiz fusion anyone?
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I just switched to Sprint from Verizon about three months ago for the Pre. Then I went for the Hero about a week ago. Now, I miss my hardware keyboard and am thinking about switching to the Moment. I am still able to switch back to Verizon if I want and get the Droid when it arrives. Should I just trade up to the Moment when it comes out, see if I like it, and if not switch to the Droid? Or something else entirely? Help!"
