Me too.
As "spam_from_engadget" already said, the FreeRunner isn't cancelled, it is on sale since Q2 2008 and stays on sale. The device that was the planned successor has been cancelled lately, due to the fact Openmoko wanted to make it a mass-market device and they currently lack the ressources to do so. Please correct this misinformation, as you have to imagine OpenMoko as a week flower, that needs some sunlight and water. What you do to it with this misinformation is putting it into room without windows.

(If you have some Openmoko news, and are unsure whether they're correct (as there have been lots of press errors in the past) and have no time for in dept research, feel free to contact me (or read my blog). I am no part of Openmoko, but a involved and usually well informed person.)
I am very sure it is a resistive touchscreen, as the device runs Windows Mobile, too - which is pretty unusable with a capacitive touchscreen.
Well, don't forget about the OpenMoko Neo FreeRunner, which has a VGA Display as well - the hardware is on the market, and we will see "Cupcake" builds on it soon, Koolu is working on it.

In fact there is mostly working Android 1.0 on it already, but due to the hacked-in keyboard it isn't that usable (example: you have to copy and paste to enter your WPA2 key) ...
Well, even if it hasn't buttons, it could be still be an Android device. What does a button do? It triggers an event - you could as well trigger the same event with a gesture (think of multi touch or motion sensors) or Motorola could be working on a different UI - we have seen WindRiver has been working on the UI as well (besides all these themes for rooted G1s)...
And who has said that Motorola hired its Android crew to does nothing besides adjusting stock Android to run on Motorola devices?
Why shouldn't they change the look (or partially even usage of the UI, as long apps written with the SDK still work on a "Motorola Android UI"?

And as far as I remember, Motorola will ship its Android phone in Q4 - we will have Cupcake/Android 1.5 powered "G2" in april or may.. so Motorola`s Android phone might even run the branch after Cupcake...
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I just switched to Sprint from Verizon about three months ago for the Pre. Then I went for the Hero about a week ago. Now, I miss my hardware keyboard and am thinking about switching to the Moment. I am still able to switch back to Verizon if I want and get the Droid when it arrives. Should I just trade up to the Moment when it comes out, see if I like it, and if not switch to the Droid? Or something else entirely? Help!"
