It's all going to be about two things....

1. Price point.
If they can do what they did with "netbooks" and bring the price way down (sub - $100) then these things have a chance to fly off the shelfs.

2. DRM.
If these devices can read all formats and not just some "special" or locked in format then more people will want them.
Would love something like this for On-Site Service calls.
I go through laptops like crazy.

Big brother is watching us, lol
This is going to be a problem we see more and more of when "cloud" computing takes off.
You keep all your photos on somebody else's server and then they decide you should not have access to them any more.
What do you do?

As always they are offering up a underpowered with a lower price point to get people to buy them.
I get emachines in all the time for repairs and in most cases I just tell my customers to buy a "real" computer.

Pretty cool if you ask me.

Let's see if it matches it's hype.

One thing need to happen before this idea is ready for prime time.

Price change!
This needs to come way down in price before most people and even authors jump onto the bandwagon.
If they hit about $100 to $150 with it then this thing will fly off shelfs and they will make their money in volume sales.

Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm looking for a solid state drive, around 32 to 64GB, for use in my web server. The drive will contain my web sites and the operating system, either Windows Server 2008 R2 or Ubuntu. Large storage is handled by a separate RAID array, so capacity is not an issue. Rather, I am looking for the fastest, longest-lasting, and most reliable drive under $150 that is suitable to my application. Any thoughts? Thanks!"
