I think it does take some abuse to get a plasma to burn-in but I have seen it. One of the Best Buy stores in Tulsa has a Panasonic plasma mounted up high that is usually on a weather sub-channel from the local ABC affiliate. When they do change channels to a football game or whatever, the weather graphics are very obviously burned-in. As a Panasonic plasma owner, it makes me sad every time I see it.
I have always been much more of an audio guy than a video guy. I can tolerate a small TV much more than I can tolerate a cheap audio system. I can't do movies without surround sound. My audio system cost twice what my Plasma TV cost. I do stream Netflix but usually just TV shows or documentaries that sound fine in Pro Logic II.
This is still not showing up for me!
"It's a gunshot, it's supposed to be heard throughout the whole house." EXACTLY! Loved that line.
The Weather Channel is airing The Perfect Storm in HD but mono audio!
The end of that first sentence makes my head hurt.
Gotten a few good sale prices at Best Buy recently. If they don't have it or it's too expensive, then I go to Amazon.
I just swapped in an LG BD390 Blu-ray player yesterday in place of a Sony BDP-S550. Love all the online streaming features.
The previous release was a $70 collector set with all kinds of unnecessary extras.
Um, those have been discontinued for at least a couple of years now. And of the three units I went through and multiple dealings with Sony, they didn't reliably record a whole series. My crappy cable DVR has been much more reliable for a long time now.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm looking for a solid state drive, around 32 to 64GB, for use in my web server. The drive will contain my web sites and the operating system, either Windows Server 2008 R2 or Ubuntu. Large storage is handled by a separate RAID array, so capacity is not an issue. Rather, I am looking for the fastest, longest-lasting, and most reliable drive under $150 that is suitable to my application. Any thoughts? Thanks!"
