i just want to say this engadget... I LOVE the way you guys write. your sarcasm and banter is classy and humorous. i nice medley of sweet and sour.

Cheers to you guys.
HA! Paul A Chapel got owwwwwwwned.

As for the American smart phone weirdiness, it's because the US population is JUST now getting into the smartphone hype like you guys over in Europe, and it just so happens that Apple introduced the overrated iPhone as it started to really get popular. Add a little hype to the mix, and this unfortunately good, brainwashing marketing, and you get the recipe for a retarded trend where people want to be like everyone else sporting an iPhone... You Europeans have it right with the smartphone world, and god damnit, Americans need to start getting it right too...

PS: I'm American, live in DC, and am mad jealous of the European/Asian smartphone market... BUT! IT'S finally starting to pick up and be less delayed!
dude, what's with Motorola completely TANKING on all these devices. Is making hardware really that damn hard? They are trying to be way too damn innovative with their designs... Seriously, a screen that slides? Instead of being stupid, go with tried and liked by most methods, make the hardware sexy and high spec, skin your software, and stop tanking!

end rant...
not being a huge programming nerd, what was said doesn't sound great when i'm thinking about jumping to the pre... however, i don't necessarily get super worried because all i want for applications is a banking app, both ability to view my accounts (like pageonce so jump platforms pageonce...) and to track my accounts like a checking book, and maybe something that allows real time updates of the DC metro trains... all this other crap that apple has is retarded. seriously, who wants a beerpong game? yeah.. teenagers. great. thanks. there should have been some antibiased subjectiveness thrown into this that doesn't belittle palm... but whatever, smart people will add their own subjectiveness i guess.
At Jonathan Bardi - you might have a valid point as to why this update came out, but at the same time, why is Apple so devastated and hard set on stopping its consumers who want to customize their baby smartphone? That's what a great deal of smartphone users want to do... And if their consumers want to do this, and they continuously block them from doing so, don't you think they'll go to the open source platforms that are just as good as the iPhone? Apple is no longer the only flashy UI, and it's a matter of time before they lose business as a direct result. Apple created A LOT of competition, yet they won't be able to keep up with it because they still don't get it. WinMo gets it. Their platform is MEANT to be customized by carriers and is hacked (positively) by a huge population of users... Android gets it, kinda... And then Palm - purposely designing a web based platform... c'mon...

Then, in combination to them blocking other devices from syncing, they are going to lose their music consumer population as well. The pre downloads straight from Amazon, which happens to be CHEAPER than iTunes 90% of the time. As the poster Jamie mentioned (which I loved btw), they use Apple products, but are disgusted by the company's behavior... See how that can affect its consumer population? They are digging themselves into a hole with the smarter/older generations/techie based generations. They will continue to market to their teenagers who are impressed by flash and trend, but are going to lose long term.

Apple continues to disgust me man.
^^^ the firsts always crack me up

anyway, seriously, this is messed up! talk about a major security breech for any business person using a BB who sends important info using those message clients. i hope other providers aren't jumping on that bandwagon...
HA! Apple is going to bury themselves over time with amazing new products coming out like the Pre and future amazing MP3 players like the Zune HD (yeah, argue it... google it first and watch the videos) if they continue to alienate their services to only their products. I mean, c'mon now, do they care that much!? Why does it matter if they are able to sync music with a non-apple product!? They are trying to form a monopoly which people will recognize and boycott... but hey, they know what they're doing, right?
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I just switched to Sprint from Verizon about three months ago for the Pre. Then I went for the Hero about a week ago. Now, I miss my hardware keyboard and am thinking about switching to the Moment. I am still able to switch back to Verizon if I want and get the Droid when it arrives. Should I just trade up to the Moment when it comes out, see if I like it, and if not switch to the Droid? Or something else entirely? Help!"
