i picked mine up in Pasadena, Ca as well. i got there at 10:30 am (they open at 10:00) and only one other person had purchased one by then. with a 2 year contract (upgrade) it cost $249. i need to check into a $50 rebate though. otherwise i love the phone, everything i always wanted in a phone especially with blackberry service. it does need video recording (camcorder) capability i agree.

awesome phone!!!!
i will definitely be getting one. it fits my needs perfectly. blackberry capability in a small compact size with a camera. and i personally like the suretype keypad better as it's way easier to dial with one hand and the keys are much larger.
that video was so out of foucs!!!! but i digress...just spoke with my tmobile store in los angeles, and they have one reserved for me and stated that sales of the 8100 will commence on the 12th of September. So i suggest you contact your local tmobile store and "reserve" one as they will definitely be available for purchase on 9/12/06. And price tag is set for $399 supposedly. can't wait....

glad you got to play with it this weekend. did they give you any hint as to when it will be available and for how much? with all this talk about about september 12th, i sure hope it is true. my 30 day trial is up at the end of september and i really want this 8100. it's perfect for me. cross your fingers.
is it really going to be $199? and is the 12th really going to the day it's available? i sure hope so. as i bought an 8700 for 30 days to try it out but want the 8100 so bad.
thank you for your comments "thought". you are absolutely right. i went to the store today because i needed a new bb. my 7100t (2 yrs old) has been crashing for a week and i didn't have a warranty on it. so i purchased an 8700g in the meantime to tide me over. that is of course if the 8100 is available within the 30 day return policy period. but while i was at the store, since i read the postings on this and other sites i knew the 8100 was in the works, i asked the sales person if they knew anything about it. and low and behold, they had just received one this morning and said i could check it out. then the manager came over and said the sales person wasn't supposed to show it to anyone because they don't have them in stock yet and they don't want to turn away sales if someone sees this amazing phone (first every camera berry) and decides not to sign up for service today and wait for the phone to come out. TRUST me, it's real. i got to play with it. and it's fast, slick, and all around the next gotta have it.

i can understand your apprenhension, since you haven't seen one yourself. and i was too. but i asked and sure enough they had one. it's not too uncommon right now to happen on these. as they are starting to show up in tmobile stores. they just arent for sale yet. and they didn't know anything about it. just that it came in to the store and they were "geeked" about it as much as i was and you would be too.

at any rate. be patient. i am. and it will be on the shelves soon.

and to Scott: sorry you don't believe me. but why would i waste my time writing a post here about something i made up when i have better things to do.

And thanks to Russell Shaw for posting about my "experience" today. i appreciate it. if you get a chance to check one out before it's on the market you'll really enjoy it.
i got to play with one today at a retail store in pasadena, ca. it's so sleek. i can't wait to buy one. i have been using a 7100t for 2 years, so i am used to the suretype. it's pretty easy to use, once you get accustomed to it. this is going to be hottest phone this year!!!
i was at a tmobile store in pasadena today and they had an 8100 at the store. they weren't supposed to show it to anyone, but i was nosy and got to play with it. it's awesome. can't wait for it to come out. the mouse on the fron of the phone is so easy to use. it's sleek and sharp looking. just got an 8700g in the meantime, but i can't wait to get the new 8100.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm in the market for a new phone and money isn't a limitation. I'm also not partial to any particular US carrier, but here are some of the features I'd like to have: WiFi, GPS, good coverage in lots of places, push Gmail (a must!), physical keyboard (a must!), a touchscreen, decent battery life and a relatively slim body. And please, nothing that has a fruit logo on it. No offense to the fruit fans, though. Thanks!"
