Yay stimulus
Why are they so expensive? You could easily get a used phone with the same features for cheaper.
Are you sure you are using an actual TyTN, and not the 8525?
First, product design is a fixed cost.

Second, if Apple is spending hundreds of dollars *per phone* on marketing, something is horribly wrong with them.
I look forward to dropping it.
Dhomas, if you had read the linked translation of the Japanese press release, you would have realized that it can make and receive calls as well. I am not sure whether this use VoIP or something else, though.
As the entry notes, it is publicly available on the FCC's website.

"I own an iPhone 3G and I'm looking for a decent speaker / alarm clock for it. I am going to listen music in a mid-sized room, so I want nice quality speakers with solid bass. I also want to use it as an alarm clock, so it would be great if there is such a feature. The price can be low-mid to mid-high range. I was looking at the Klipsch iGroove SXT; it's powerful, slick and the reviews are good, but it doesn't have an alarm clock feature. It's no deal breaker if I can set it up from the iPhone, but I'm not sure. Thanks!"
