"Perhaps sensing the trend toward connected, social navigation devices and services..."

Sensing a trend? Nokia have just bought NavTeq for $4 billion and are planning on shipping over 35 million GPS phones this year alone. They've even stated publicly that they're going head to head with Google on mapping services (http://mobilementalism.com/2008/05/15/nokia-google-is-our-competitor/).

I think this is a bit more than just sensing a trend!
VK Mobile: From topless women (http://mobilementalism.com/2006/03/10/cebit-2006-vk-mobile-launch-naked-women/) to tits-up in just 4 short months. RIP.

Never could understand Helio's approach with VK Mobile and Pantech phones, though. They claimed they wanted to bring big-featured Korean phones to the US, but the KickFlip and Hero were hardly that. Besides, all Samsung and LG had to do was to release one of their behemoths in the US, and it's game over!

And that's just what Samsung seems to have done with its new SCH-a990 3.2 megapixeller being released on Verizon. A phone with better specs than either the KickFlip or the Hero, now on sale in the US. Where next, Helio?
"We really hope there isn't something you find to be positively irresistible about this phone"

How about the 'Menstrual' application it comes with?!

Yes, this is a very bad shade of pink, but there are worse (I'm thinking Siemens' CL75 Poppy!). Some phones look good in pink, but most look they've just been painted pink as an after-thought. Check out this list of the latest pink phones to see what I mean:

Samsung have gone one better than this (don't they always?!) They've just announced the X828, which is, they claim, the world's smallest mobile phone - only 6.9mm thin! That's half the thickness of a RAZR.

As another Virgin Mobile customer, this must be the ugliest phone in the world! Can't see how looking at different pictures of this phone help either (e.g. http://mobilementalism.com/2006/04/11/have-virgin-released-the-worlds-ugliest-mobile-phone/)

Maybe it's blessed with great personality!
Rumour has it Disney will be making Happy Slappy the eighth Dwarf in a new remake of Snow White.

Apple have no choice but to release an iPhone if they want to continue in the consumer electronics market. Nokia's recent rumblings about how they destroyed the photo industry, and how their sights are now firmly on the music device market, can be seen as a clear shot across Apple's bows.

If Apple don't release an iPhone soon, the iPod's days are numbered.

You can read more on Apple and Nokia's forthcoming war here:

I don't think Apple have any choice but to release an iPhone. Nokia have ominously reminded the world how they helped kill the photo industry, and now firmly aim to kill the music device and video camera industries. In other words, in just a few short years, your stand-alone iPod will be as quaint as a personal CD player is today.

I love this idea for Bluetooth - turns your mobile phone into a remote control, but with the content stored inside it.

I also love the Google Ads that appear for the keywords "parrot": Bird Diaper Flight Suit anyone?!
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I just switched to Sprint from Verizon about three months ago for the Pre. Then I went for the Hero about a week ago. Now, I miss my hardware keyboard and am thinking about switching to the Moment. I am still able to switch back to Verizon if I want and get the Droid when it arrives. Should I just trade up to the Moment when it comes out, see if I like it, and if not switch to the Droid? Or something else entirely? Help!"
