"Considering that the standard Mini D puts out around 90 horsepower and the Cooper D boasts another 20 bhp, then these S-ified models could be packing upwards of 140 to 150 hp and, more importantly, over 200 lb.-ft. of torque from their 1.6-liter turbodiesels."

Why?
CPSIA is the nanny state at (or near) it worst.
KTM bringing more street bikes to the U.S. still brings a big smile to my face though.
If you're dependent on pipe noise for your safety from other drivers, you might be doing it wrong. I'd be more worried about peds stepping off curbs in front of me, especially in Boston's many, many zones of established pedestrian idiocy.
Nice store ya got here...be a shame if anything happened to it.
Lay off the haterade, folks. This is much less dangerous to a car than driving it on Boston roads, and I'm sure the exhaust note was sweet. Namaste, brother hoon.

+1, everyone hating on this kid is a jackass. Anything you can do on a CDJ, you could do better with TSP/Ableton.

However:

1. The audio quality of the pitch locking is *much* better in one of these than it is in Traktor.
2. The intended audience for this product is a club owner / system installer, and for that audience, this is a worthy successor to the 1000mk3. That is, it makes using a CDJ a little more like using Traktor.
3. If you were a pro DJ and you could pay $2k for a rock-solid guarantee that your laptop would *never* go tits-up or kernel panic in the middle of a set, would you pay it? Going high-end CDJ isn't just a feature-set thing, it's buying into a proven track record of QA and product testing.
4. Blinkenlights!
@Brent:

If you can build a version of this that retains decent fingertip sensitivity through the glove, I expect "Controllerism" and Traktor DVS DJ's will become a key niche market for this product.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I just switched to Sprint from Verizon about three months ago for the Pre. Then I went for the Hero about a week ago. Now, I miss my hardware keyboard and am thinking about switching to the Moment. I am still able to switch back to Verizon if I want and get the Droid when it arrives. Should I just trade up to the Moment when it comes out, see if I like it, and if not switch to the Droid? Or something else entirely? Help!"
