I don't know about you all at Engadget, but my cable and broadband provider has been one in the same for 10 years across 4 different states including both coasts and the northern mid-west. The FCC should be pondering the near monopoly that is Comcast and how to deal with their crappy speeds, connectivity and ridiculous prices. Wherever they exist they are the only choice for internet worth anything (I refuse to consider DSL a viable alternative).

Actually Engadget, it's not useless. Maybe possibly as a computer display, but if applied to an area like passenger vehicles for instance, it would be very much welcome. Heads Up Displays in automobiles fell to the wayside a bit ago after showing up in a few higher end vehicles. The technology wasn't there. Now it s, or atleast getting there with this prototype display from LG and other areas such as flexible OLEDs.

Not everyone in America watches "American Football". I find it, basketball and baseball all ridiculously boring to watch. Hockey is about the only sport that I don't find boring and it's also the only sport to me outside of "soccer" that has true athletes. I give soccer players props simply for running up and down a field for an hour+, but it's just too wide open.

Unfortunately, I can't speak about rugby since it's not all that popular here.

I'd love for someone to answer this question for me...why does Apple give the appearance of "bashing" Windows through their commercials yet come out with a press release or what not saying that bootcamp will support Windows 7? Doesn't that kind of go against their own product?


New Commercial: "Hi, I'm a Mac and I'm here to tell you that while we have our own OS that we tell you is superior to that of the Windows OS we actually support Windows so you can forgo using our OS whenever you like. You may find need at times to use Windows because our OS doesn't support all programs out there."



To the folk mentiong windows users installing Quicktime, Safari, iTunes, etc. onto their machines...I'll join the club to say that I don't. I installed quicktime on my computer once because something required it and after about the 3rd or 4th time I got an update window popping up that wanted to also install iTunes on my machine, I uninstalled it and haven't looked back. For browsing, there are enough other programs out there that I don't have to choose Safari over IE (which I don't use either except at work where I'm required to) and tend to Firefox or Chrome. So again, not everyone installs Apple software on their computers.


To the person that asked about what a "PC" is....simply it is a personal computer. What has changed with that is it somehow became synonymous with the windows operating system (or more accurately, non-apple OS systems). Your confusion is warranted and understood. To add to it, if it was possible to install an Apple OS onto a "PC" would that in turn transform it intoa Mac?


In summary and in my humble opinion, buy a Mac if you want a sterile looking all white computer that is severely overpriced with an okay OS and will be difficult to upgrade. Or buy a less expensive computer that comes in a variety of flavors, is more customizable, more easily upgraded, has more support (albeit not always the best depending) and also has an okay OS. And lastly, if you "build" your own rig, well, odds are good you're going to save more money, have a 3rd choice for an OS, but probably still will run Windows.

$770?! Spend another $100 for that HP Touchsmart 300 (or whatever it's called) and get something that takes up just the space of an LCD screen, has a wireless keyboard and mouse, 4GB ram, 360GB HDD, Dual Core processor, etc....

Vinyl? CDs? Somewhere between 128 and 192 digital pirates? I don't know what all that means and I'll stick to my 8-Track tapes and take you all on!!!!

I like my HP Mini 10xx and think it looks great. That was for the few comments about them looking/feeling like toys and is also just my opinion.

As for what I'd change? A resolution increase 1280x800 or so plus a dual core processor even at 1.6ish GHz would be fine. I upgrade the memory in all of 30 seconds to 2GB and increased the storage capacity of mine past the stock 16GB SSD for $25 by adding a 16GB SDHC card. Battery life? Meh, I haven't had issues and I've used it to travel with and in class. When I'm at the airport, I make sure it's fully charged before I get on the plane and keep it plugged in while using it in the terminal. i turn off the wireless when I'm not using it for internet stuff and plug it in again during lay overs.

In summary, a little bit of a resolution increase and a dual core would be about all I'd change. Anything else, I'd just go buy a laptop.
