Thanks for the invite! I'll be checking this out!!!
I use that almost nightly getting files ready for my commute.. UGH

Hopefully the latest version stays usable for a while and no Apple updates break it.

Good news about Handbrake though - hopefully it won't be long and it'll be just as simple.

Oh yeah - can I have a refund now? I'll just take half back!
Erica,

Thanks for that - I was wondering if it would work. I followed your instructions for the PAYG 2G and thats how I've been using my iPhone for the last few months and its great since I don't use voice.

Can you confirm whether you can receive SMS notifications on the 3G w/ the PAYG Unlimited Data & a text package? With my 2G I don't get any SMS messages, not even the "please go to this site to view your pictures" message. Sometimes I'll get the "The last transaction cost 0.00. Your account balance is XX.XX USD" and thats how I know someone sent me something - but most of the time nothing, the messages just go into the abyss.

regular texts come in fine - its only when someone tries to attach a picture that it never makes it.

Thanks!!
Does this work with the 2.0 firmware on a First gen iphone since as it says "This is not unlocking; this is adding authorization files directly to the phone. Your iPhone's modem remains unaffected and pristine."
Don't be so sure... I've returned alot of items (legally) over the years and not once has anyone ever powered on the item to see if it worked (or didn't work) - they open the box, look to see that the item is there and process the refund. The fact that he returned the core was the smartest thing he did because just glancing in the box makes it look like the item is in there.
This time of year you'll see more and more stories like this - with the crazy return lines everywhere the stores just want to get them out as quickly as they can - they aren't going to go through every item, take it out of the box, power it on, etc - they'll flip the box open, see if something is there and process the refund.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I own an iPhone 3G and I'm looking for a decent speaker / alarm clock for it. I am going to listen music in a mid-sized room, so I want nice quality speakers with solid bass. I also want to use it as an alarm clock, so it would be great if there is such a feature. The price can be low-mid to mid-high range. I was looking at the Klipsch iGroove SXT; it's powerful, slick and the reviews are good, but it doesn't have an alarm clock feature. It's no deal breaker if I can set it up from the iPhone, but I'm not sure. Thanks!"
