"specialized, optimized virtual machine"

But how is it optimized, considering bytecode is interpreted by Dalvik and not compiled? Just marketing speak?
"As opposed to, say, flying to the States and picking one up"

What about order one via the Internet and have it shipped...
That means they had to add a KVM, or did it have that already?
Hong Kong Dollar maybe ($0.12)? That doesn't sound right either though.
It's interesting that neither Engadget nor any of the other commenters mention that the music will sound crappy. Already MP3 is bad enough, and compressing 10 times more clearly doesn't improve audio quality.
Not supporting EDGE seems strange as it can't cost much to add.
I have an M600 that's very similar, including the keypad, and people might misunderstand how to use it effectively. I key in text pretty fast (much faster than with multitap or predictive) by using my thumb finger nails (both thumbs) and pressing on the sides of the keys. Some suggested to put the finger at the middle of the key and then flip to either side. That's the wrong way of doing it.

It's definitely not as fast as a PC keyboard, but keying in SMSs, emails, tasks etc work great. I even twit with it.

Actually I would have preferred individual keys anyway (like on the P990). It doesn't matter if numeric keys then were small, as all my business contacts are anyway in the phone book. Numbers could even be on the touch screen. I'm using my phone way more for entering text than digits.
But you have to admit it's funny that someone can make a rip-off of Windows Mobile, a very complex OS / application platform that Microsoft has spent a gazillion dollars on developing, and for a long time.

Microsoft could acquire them... Stranger things have happened.
"Bluetooth's peak data rates don't stand a chance against the best that HSDPA can throw at it"

True, but you don't need much speed for e-mail, browsing, chat, tweeting etc.
"this is one of the best smartphones and perhaps the best S60 device we've ever laid hands on"

OK, so where's the alphanumeric keypad then? Without it it can't be the best S60 device. Right?
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm in the market for a new phone and money isn't a limitation. I'm also not partial to any particular US carrier, but here are some of the features I'd like to have: WiFi, GPS, good coverage in lots of places, push Gmail (a must!), physical keyboard (a must!), a touchscreen, decent battery life and a relatively slim body. And please, nothing that has a fruit logo on it. No offense to the fruit fans, though. Thanks!"
