@Green Spleen: First of all I agree it's not going to win any design awards, but then again, if you want a phone with a 3.7 inch display and still remain small handheld device, you're going to have to sacrifice a cool and hip case. The display on this phone takes up all of the real estate on the front of the phone. Not a bad trade-off.

Secondly, the DROID only has to match the iPhone to be competitive. Why? Because, while everyone loves their iPhone, the majority of them wishes it was available on something better than the sucky AT&T network. Verizon is clearly the best network out there, and that's only going to get better as Verizon rolls out 4G in 2010. Apple won't be able to release a 4G phone until 2011 at the earliest because chipmakers won't have the LTE silicon chip ready in time for a 2010 release. And as was observed on another blog: "VZW will have more 4G coverage than AT&T has 3G coverage by Q2 2010."

So the real question is... do you want a snappy cool phone on a sucky, underdeveloped network... or... the Droid on VZW's award winning network?
@P dot T:

Did Droid kill iPhone on its pre-sell on BestBuy? maybe or maybe not. Anyway, it’s up for us buyers now if we will grade this droid as A or F. on its official unveiling Nov 6, 2009.

That wouldn't be a fair comparison either way. When the iPhone hit the market there was a huge void for user friendly smart phones, so the anticipation for such a cool device was rabid. Today, besides the iPhone, you have a number of copy-cat devices out there. As PC World said, the Motorola Droid is the best alternative to the iPhone on the market, so in that respect I think it will be Apple's biggest competition so far.
Jennifer Pryor of Pryor's Planet (post 31)...

Why would you require Ellen to pay a second adoption fee? Seems to me that if you require the dog to be returned to you that you'd either refund the original fee, or allow her to apply that fee to the new owners that SHE sought out and found.

Clearly finding loving and safe environments for these stray pets is not the top priority of these rescue organizations. Sadly I'm afraid this incident is going to cause potential adopters to look elsewhere. I've been searching for a young lab to adopt and have been looking online at all of the shelters here in Austin. But quite frankly, I think I'll just go buy a puppy and that way I won't be tied down by all the bureaucratic red tape.

Good luck adopting out all those poor stray animals.
Simply ridiculous! Ok, so by her own admission Ellen made a mistake. But this agency has made an even bigger mistake.

Why have such a stupid rule of not placing small dogs with children under 14? I could see under 6, but 14? Who best to love and care about a dog than a child.

And I agree with the post about after-adoption rules. Once you approve the family and the adoption has been made, your influence over the situation ENDS.

So now Moms and Mutts has become public enemy number 1 along with their Paws Boutique. How is that going to serve the best interests of the rest of your strays?
Ok, I upgraded to Vista Home Premium. It's not that I don't like it... it is alot cooler (and the interface does copy the Mac OS (and no, I'm not a Mac user!)... and while Vista does have alot of cool new features, it's still classic Microsoft and f*cks over the consumer on several levels. What I'm pissed about is how incompatible Windows Mail is with Outlook Express archives. Despite following the export instructions from Microsoft support, I am unable (even with support help) to imported my old OE6 folders/emails into either MS Mail or Outlook 2007.

And can someone explain why MS Mail (or Outlook 2007) won't support Hotmail? Even if you PAY for the upgraded service it won't work in either of Microsoft's mail programs!!!

So in order to salvage my mail archives I may very well be forced to roll-back to XP.
Pinaki, you are missing the point of the phone! It's an entry-level, no frills basic phone for people who just want a PHONE. Want more memory? Buy A SLVR L7! Need more messages? Buy a Q (or wait a tad longer for the Q9h!!) Want more color options, buy a RAZR!

This phone was originally designed for new markets in developing countries where people can't afford feature-rich cell phones. But Motorola is finding that there is a market with people who don't want all the frivilous crap... 'just the phone ma'am'! Also, considering the screen and the font size, it is going to be a great phone for seniors and kids!

I just wish they'd hurry up and sell it here in the states! Hell they could double the price here and I'd stil buy one.
This posts are always good for a chuckle:

"more interesting is that this is the 1st device from moto's new line up of phones caled scalple (SCLPL?)"

No you dork, it looks nothing like the SCPL phone. It's a knockoff of the SLVR. Geez, read up on this stuff before you go spoutin off at the mouth. Google Motorola SCPL and you'll see it looks nothing like this. N-O-T-H-I-N-G

And while I'm on the subject...

"these blockish skinny phones that all look alike are really hitting a nerve now after two years"

aww... poor baby. I'm sure all the phone makers will ditch all of their marketing research and kill these very popular selling phones just because poor little Prophet is tired of the 'blockish' phone that the rest of the world is snapping up as fast as they can turn them out. Yeah, hold your breath... no really.

Really guys, go get a life. Sheesh!
There are several stories about Isaiah Washington's temper and past flare-ups on the set. Just go to PerezHilton.com and search on his name. Or google it.

I guess fame causes a lot of people to lose it sometimes, but being able to recognize inappropriate behavior or comments made in the heat of the moment and then accepting responsibility and making amends is what sets people apart. In this case, Mr. Washington seems to be above that and for that reason his conduct should be deemed as chronic and be kicked off the show.

Guess there's no chance he'll be invited to be on "Dancing with the Stars" now! ☺
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I just switched to Sprint from Verizon about three months ago for the Pre. Then I went for the Hero about a week ago. Now, I miss my hardware keyboard and am thinking about switching to the Moment. I am still able to switch back to Verizon if I want and get the Droid when it arrives. Should I just trade up to the Moment when it comes out, see if I like it, and if not switch to the Droid? Or something else entirely? Help!"
