Apple sells luxury items at a premium price. when times get hard as they are these days, people tend to cut back on the purchase of luxury items. Not good news for Apple.

For example if you want to buy a laptop for your kid who needs to surf the web and do e-mail you can get a decent Dell for $599, the cheapest Apple laptop is $1099. No reason to give Steve and Co $600 when you can use it for the kids books.

Apple is tanked because investors realize this very thing.
Negotiate people...

I got $50 off my Red Dell XPS One yesterday simply by asking the on-line assistant. I was trying to get him to up me to 4GB but settled on the $50.00. If I didn't get a discount I would have left and thought about it a while longer.

I bought the red one a few hours ago and managed to talk Dell down $50 (via online assistant), so it had a $250 difference between red and standard version of which $80 goes to charity leaving $170. The $170 went for the included Office 2007 and Red Vista Ultimate Upgrade...

I don't see this a my main computer but just picked it up for the bedroom since it has the TV tuner built in.

Yes I was kind of upset they made me buy Office 2007 again since I can get a free copy from where I work.
I'd like a Dell XPS One in red.

I noticed on the Dell web site they are giving $200 discounts on this model making the entry point $1299!
the first fix should be to straighten out that crooked stack of icons, looks like it is about to topple over
Nice setup :>
I've seen this first hand at Best Buy. I go to the computer department and it swarming with people hovering over the Dell laptops.

Looked over to the Mac area and saw there was not a soul, not even a salesperson. And this is in a wealthy part of Chicago.

I am glad to see Dell is back!
meh...
Looks like it is based on Windows XP !

At least when the dialog boxes pop up it looks like XP. I didn't have the patience to sit through whole video the guy was annoying as hell.
Looks pretty good to me. That HTC Shift will be my next PC :>
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I just switched to Sprint from Verizon about three months ago for the Pre. Then I went for the Hero about a week ago. Now, I miss my hardware keyboard and am thinking about switching to the Moment. I am still able to switch back to Verizon if I want and get the Droid when it arrives. Should I just trade up to the Moment when it comes out, see if I like it, and if not switch to the Droid? Or something else entirely? Help!"
