When Nextel became the lead sponsor for the "Winston Cup", they put in a clause that NO other telecom could be a car sponsor. Alltel and Cingular were grandfathered. Every wonder why there is no Verizon Cup car? Cingular wants/needs to change its logo and Sprint/Nexthell says that constitutes a "new" sponsor and nulls the grandfathering. Sorry, Nexthell, that's a load of crap..
There are no additional resources with the merger/name change. Cingular/AT&T Mobility is staying very much the same. You need to realize that AT&T was bought by SBC, who owned 60% of Cingular. Nothing has really changed at the top. It's all smoke and mirrors (or rebrand). And no, Moto F'd the V3i, not Cingular.
When they started development (2+ years ago), WCDMA chipsets were not widely available. They went with what was available and worked. There were no UMTS networks at that time. They couldn't hedge on a technology that may or may not be avail at launch. Newer models will follow.
^^^^ What do you mean settle? I would think you'd enjoy surfing the web and making a voice call at the same time on UMTS?????
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm in the market for a new phone and money isn't a limitation. I'm also not partial to any particular US carrier, but here are some of the features I'd like to have: WiFi, GPS, good coverage in lots of places, push Gmail (a must!), physical keyboard (a must!), a touchscreen, decent battery life and a relatively slim body. And please, nothing that has a fruit logo on it. No offense to the fruit fans, though. Thanks!"
