I not sure but, theres a "mythology" theme to the code names it seems.
what ever happened to the reports that this device would be CDMA/GSM capable? If only.......
smartphones not popular in Japan huh? Um, that's because all their phones are smart. They all handle MS Office files. Have tons of installable applets. Like I said, I've lived there and still live half of the time there. My wife is one of those so-called japanese "comsumers". Reading customer subscribership has absolutely nothing to do with public demand. Why? you say? Because, it's no hassle whatsoever to jump ship whenever you want too. I've had subscriptions to every carrier in japan (and even some that don't exist anymore. I really hate when people who haven't even the slightest real world knowlege of something talk like they're an expert. Oh, yeah, I'm Japanese. I use a Pocket PC. I don't know where you're getting you're figures but Japan has only just started offering WinMo smartphones. NTT Docomo, Softbank, Willcom.
Hi, I lived in Japan and have numerous phones there. I still use one here in the states. I'm pretty sure there are lots of Japanese pulling out their hair wanting the Iphone. Japan has tons of MP3 players on the market. But they still buy the ipod. All of the cell carriers offer music downloads and streaming content. Hell, they even have regular TV viewable phones there! And it isn't a streaming service have you. It's just that they broadcast over the air in digital since way back. Their phones aren't that much more advanced than ours. It's just that there are basic regional related things that demand that the phones be better than ours. One being the japanese character font can only survive on higher res displays. I'm talking about PPI here. Not qvga or vga. It's all about the market being more demanding and willing to upgrade quicker than the average american cellphone user. Hell, I used to get the newest phone everytime one came out. Which is like every other month over there! Believe me guys. They will ba alllll over the iphone.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm in the market for a new phone and money isn't a limitation. I'm also not partial to any particular US carrier, but here are some of the features I'd like to have: WiFi, GPS, good coverage in lots of places, push Gmail (a must!), physical keyboard (a must!), a touchscreen, decent battery life and a relatively slim body. And please, nothing that has a fruit logo on it. No offense to the fruit fans, though. Thanks!"
