With my father in law kicking in 1000 bucks for a MB Pro 17" for my wife's b-day last fall, I still had to shell out almost 2K myself. I am so tired of Apple fanboys comparing the OS, the wonderful support. It is almost 3 times the price!!!. If you have the cash -- great, buy it. I like her laptop, it's fast, very pretty screen, etc. Does she have a clue about the BSD kernel or other geeky BS, do 95% of mac users? Are you people nuts? If a computer works it works. I can go to best buy and get a spec for spec the EXACT same Windows laptop for 1200 bucks, you want to tell me resale, or whatever other garbage reason you Apple heads feel so elitist about your fruit, is worth paying almost 3 times as much, then OK, nice to know the recession hasn't reached your house. I have a good job, so I don't have to watch every dollar going out, but you know what, most people now days do. And if all you got is service, support and some geeky innards that no normal person knows or cares about -- sorry, Apple is fighting an uphill battle, especially in a recession.
I hope someone buys them. I love my sirius subscription. We listen to it exclusively to and from work. Shame if they go under...not sure what I'd listen to. FM is absolute trash.
Joshua, Engadget, looks like you are alone here with the hate. Maybe time to reconsider?
So install some solar panels on your roof, and you're green. I'm so tired of tree huggers complain about everybody and everything and giving no solutions in return. If you don't have a house with a garage where you can charge this thing -- a plugin electric car is not for you. If you are driving 100 miles to work each way, maybe this car is not for you either. And if you are going to poo-poo every technological advancement the much beleaguered US automakers do make -- well maybe you should walk instead, eat vegan, wear hemp clothes and live on comune, while the rest of us try to slowly ween ourselves off of oil.
Not that it makes it much cheaper, but only UK residents must pay VAT, though, if you are going to import it to the states, you'd have to pay shipping, which isn't cheap.
Note to Delta -- Figure out how to get luggage delivered on time first. How about that RF luggage tracking system, I'd actually pay a few dollars to know WHERE THE HELL MY BAG IS. On time flights, courteous airline staff. Knowledgeable and competent airport security. Don't overbook, don't bump people to the next flight. Yea, I love surfing the web and all, but if I get to where I'm going and my bag is not there ...doesn't matter that they had wifi on the plain. The flight still sucked.
Same here, I imported this phone, and even with the horrible GBP-USD exchange rate, it has been money well spent. I've had the phone for almost a month and it has been without a doubt an awesome device.
Good luck, not sure how far you're going to get standing on piece of plastic. To comment to the person who said that no one works out 7 days a week, true that is hard, but if the workout is so low impact as WiiFit, I don't see why not. I had recently completed a P90X regiment, that's a real workout, if anything I'm sure we'd love to see Ryan try that routine out.
I gotta correct what GadgetGav is saying because it's completely wrong. When you plug your ipod into your Mac (I'm assuming) and play songs through itunes, you are using the computer's internal MP3/AAC etc decoding capabilities and not the iPOD's, so at that point, if your computer has a digital coax/optical toslink going to your stereo, you are in effect playing your music digitally all the way through, you can do this for a heck of a lot less than 2 grand, the iPOD on it's own does not have any way of connecting to a digital audio receiver, it is entirely possible that they modify the iPOD internally to enable the digital audio output -- different than USB connectivity. Though, I'd go for a sub 1k media center PC with a nice Audigy sound card and the ipod docked normally.
But let's not confuse things here, if they've figured out a way to modify the iPOD in such way that their dock gives digital audio/toslink then that's what they're doing
I made a really nice one out of a $50 laptop + $20 for shipping (nice 14" screen), custom software I wrote, and a $30 dollar shadow box from a craft store. Some mat paper some and other supplies for another $50. She doesn't have wifi in her apartment -- obviously -- so I configured it with a pre-paid dialup service. My grandma and her friends were sitting staring at the slideshow for hours. She even figured out how to turn it on and off.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm in the market for a new phone and money isn't a limitation. I'm also not partial to any particular US carrier, but here are some of the features I'd like to have: WiFi, GPS, good coverage in lots of places, push Gmail (a must!), physical keyboard (a must!), a touchscreen, decent battery life and a relatively slim body. And please, nothing that has a fruit logo on it. No offense to the fruit fans, though. Thanks!"
