i agree that cord is way better. who cares whether ms updates their crappy client...
1000 charges or 1000 cycles? they are very different.
"... designed to do more or less exactly what you want"

is it "more or less", or "exactly"?

kidding. thanks for the answers. keep finding useful info from such articles.
阵营之争真的没什么意思。

两个平台各有优缺点。自己选择用得舒服的就行。微软的“$1500 laptop hunter"广告很幼稚。苹果的"get a mac"系列也越来越白痴。。。
and i think they should categorize the appstore on iphones in the same manner.
Thanks for the article but I don't agree with some of your battery care tips.

My understanding to Lithium-ion batteries:

* Only when the amount of power you charge accumulates to the full capacity of the battery, it is counted as 1 cycle.

* If you charge the battery from 30% to 50% and then unplug, you only charged it for 1/5 of a cycle. You need to do this 5 times in order to claim a full charge cycle.

* Most Lithium-ion batteries lose significant amount of capacity (20% gone, for example) after 300-500 cycles (cycles, not charges), assuming most cycles are formed by multiple shallow charges.

* Lithium-ion batteries prefer shallow charge/discharge over deep ones. Though one deep charge from 5% to 95% and 9 shallow charges from 40%-50% have the same cycle count (0.9 cycle), the former does more harm to the battery and if you do it frequently, you'll reach the "significant capacity loss" point earlier.

* Even though deep charge is not good, it's still recommended that user performs it once every month -- this is for the sole purpose of calibrating the capacity indicator so the percentage info is meaningful. It's not for the good of the battery health.

* Do not deep discharge your battery. When your computer/gadget tells you it's low on power, charge it ASAP. If you don't plan to use your device for a few days, charge battery to 50% and uninstall it from the gadget. I had bad lessons: I left a nearly empty battery in my unplugged Macbook for 1 week. Then the battery died completely and can't be charged again. Because even the Macbook is off, it still uses small amount of power (monitor WakeOnLan signals from network, for example). Also batteries naturally discharge even if you don't use them. These factors drained the battery below the safe threshold (sometimes called "reserved capacity"). Once a battery hits below this threshold it might not be recoverable.

* Most laptops/gadgets will shutdown themselves before reaching the safe threshold. Charge ASAP. If you leave the battery like that for too long, it might slowly go below the safe threshold and completely die.

Well, as a user, you don't really need to remember all above. Rules of thumb:

* Charge your device whenever you feel convenient.

* Letting it run too low is bad.

That's it.

感觉上应该还要多很多才对。

这个计算有很多细节没说清楚。有些技术网站光是把文档和论坛打印下来我看就很可怕了。

假如每个网站只打个首页的话,这个文章的数字就差不多。
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I just switched to Sprint from Verizon about three months ago for the Pre. Then I went for the Hero about a week ago. Now, I miss my hardware keyboard and am thinking about switching to the Moment. I am still able to switch back to Verizon if I want and get the Droid when it arrives. Should I just trade up to the Moment when it comes out, see if I like it, and if not switch to the Droid? Or something else entirely? Help!"
