As a member of the ZoneTag team, I would like to point out a couple of things.
First, "Yahoo! has just rolled out" would be an overstatement... ZoneTag is a research prototype from Yahoo! Research Berkeley. The ZoneTag prototpye is going to have a limited number of users (sign up quickly!). ZoneTag will be available for a limited number of handsets (make sure you have one that we support). Finally, the service might not be offered forever. Well, nothing is forever, but you know what I mean.
Second, although very related to Merkitys (we love it!), ZoneTag is in no way "based" on it.
Okay everyone, start tagging your zone...
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm in the market for a new phone and money isn't a limitation. I'm also not partial to any particular US carrier, but here are some of the features I'd like to have: WiFi, GPS, good coverage in lots of places, push Gmail (a must!), physical keyboard (a must!), a touchscreen, decent battery life and a relatively slim body. And please, nothing that has a fruit logo on it. No offense to the fruit fans, though. Thanks!"
