<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/denon/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Denon</a>'s just added to its lineup of network-capable <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/23/denon-marantz-show-off-2011-receiver-lineups-how-much-they-lov/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">AV receivers</a> with new IN-command models that bring 4K, streaming and surround sound options aplenty. The flagship model is the $1,300 AVR-X4000, which supports 4K passthrough for the few lucky owners of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2013/04/07/sony-4k-tv-pricing/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">such sets</a>, along with HDTV to 4K upscaling, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/05/spotify-comes-to-denon-and-marantz-receivers-shares-music-via-nfc/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Spotify</a>, AirPlay and DNLA 1.5. Other features include 7.2 surround sound output with <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Audyssey/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Audyssey DSX</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/dolby%20prologic%20iiz/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Dolby Pro Logic IIz</a> or <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/DTS%20Neo:X/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">DTS Neo:X</a> encoding, 125 watts of power per channel, seven HDMI inputs and three outputs, a remote control app for iOS, Android or web browsers, home automation compatibility, multi-room control and MP3 audio restoration. The $900 AVR-X3000 and $650 AVR-X2000 pack similar features but dial back the watts, surround sound and decoding capability, while the $450 AVR-X1000 is limited to 1080p output and carries the smallest amp. All the models are now up for grabs, while the copious list of specs can be found at the source.</p>

<p>The d&eacute;but Google TV device from ASUS included several firsts for the platform, but a feature that slipped by <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2013/04/23/asus-cube-google-tv-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">our Cube review</a> is the built-in ASUS Movie Player app's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Airplay/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">AirPlay</a> support. <em>GTVSource</em> noticed it in the YouTube for iPad app and a few others, but in our testing YouTube and Netflix only displayed content via their own AirPlay-like features. We were able to watch videos from within the iOS Photos app (ones we took with the built-in camera) using standard AirPlay, but not still images themselves. Digging into the settings of the Cube reveals options to disable the service or to change the display name that shows up on AirPlay sources. Overall, more doesn't work than does, like AirPlay mirroring from iPads or Macs. That sort of inconsistent compatibility probably isn't enough to push it past downloadable options like <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/27/airtight-brings-apples-airplay-to-your-google-tv-makes-cuperti/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Airtight</a>, but it is a welcome out-of-the-box treat that we hope sees improvements over time.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/asus-cube-with-airplay/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">ASUS Cube with AirPlay</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/asus-cube-with-airplay/5856456?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/05/asuscubeairplay18lg_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/asus-cube-with-airplay/5856455?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/05/asuscubeairplay19lg_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/asus-cube-with-airplay/5856457?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/05/asuscubeairplay16lg_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/asus-cube-with-airplay/5856458?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/05/asuscubeairplay17lg_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></p>

<p class="image-container" style="text-align: center;"> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2013/04/26/sony-prices-and-dates-its-2013-home-and-shelf-audio-lineups/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img alt="Sony prices its 2013 home and shelf audio lineups, clarifies availability dates" data-src-height="423" data-src-width="619" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/04/sony-bdv-n8110w-1366933330.jpg" /></a></p><p> Given Sony's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/08/sony-minidisc-walkman-to-stop-spinning-in-september-video/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">heritage</a>, it's no surprise that the company loves its audio -- but we can imagine that some might be overwhelmed when the company has priced and dated the cores of its 2013 home and shelf audio lineups in one sitting. Don't worry, we'll break it all down. On the home audio side, both the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2013/01/07/sonys-new-blu-ray-player-and-htib-hands-on/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">BDV-N7100W and BDV-7100W</a> home-theaters-in-a-box (N8100W shown above) are already shipping at respective $599 and $699 prices with 1,000W 5.1-channel output, internet-linked Blu-ray players and both Bluetooth as well as <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2013/01/07/ces-sony-audio-nfc-bluetooth-speaker-walkman-headphones/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">OneTouch NFC</a> pairing. TV watchers who can wait until June will also see the STR-DN1040, a $599 7.2-channel receiver with 4K upscaling, Bluetooth, WiFi and 165W per channel; the $449 STR-DN840 receiver, which scales back to 4K passthrough and 150W per channel; and the $399 HT-C660 soundbar, which adds NFC pairing to the same wireless mix as the receivers.</p><p> Shelf audio is simpler, with every new entry arriving May 27th. Both the LBT-GPX55 (below) and LBT-GPX77 mini stereos offer a respective 1,600W and 1,800W of output alongside Bluetooth, NFC, a CD player (!) and dual USB ports at a $499 starting price. Those who don't need their walls rattled quite so thoroughly can spring for the $349 RDH-GTK37iP boombox, which puts out a still-substantial 420W on top of Bluetooth, NFC, an iOS dock and attention-getting strobe lights. That's a lot to process, we know. If you're not satisfied even after that deluge of information, however, Sony's pressers await after the break.</p>

Harman Kardon knows this well enough to ship its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2013/01/04/harman-CES-2013-speakers-receivers/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">AVR 2700 and AVR 3700</a> receivers, both of which carry 4K passthrough and upscaling on their eight HDMI ports as a matter of course. The two also support AirPlay streaming alongside more commonplace DLNA media sharing and offer remote control mobile apps. Home theater futureproofers mostly have to decide on audio channels and network support before they buy: the $800 AVR 2700 produces 7.1-channel surround and sticks to Ethernet alone for networking, while the $996 AVR 3700 introduces 7.2-channel audio and WiFi. Few of us will use either receiver to its full potential right now, but well-heeled 4K TV owners (or just the well-prepared) can pick one up today.</p>

Two years later, B&amp;W's bodacious Zeppelin Air is getting updated yet again, but this time it's all about the dock. Those of you who can't bear to go dock-free with the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/23/bowers-wilkins-a5-a7-airplay-hifi-speakers/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">A5 and A7</a> will be pleased know the third-generation Zeppelin features a Lightning connector. Aside from Lightning and an updated LED array, it's essentially the same speaker we were polarized by back in May 2011, set to ship this May for the same $600 price. Beyond that, the company is introducing what's effectively the wireless followup to its defunct <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/18/bowers-and-wilkins-zeppelin-mini-impressions/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Zeppelin Mini</a>, the $400 Z2. It'll be available in black this April, with a white version following in June -- consider it the company's take on bedside or kitchen speaker that you'd normally see from Sony or <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/27/harman-jbl-new-speaker-docks/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Harman</a>. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/bandw-zeppelin-air-and-z2-airplay-speakers-with-lightning-docks-press-images/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">B&amp;W Zeppelin Air and Z2 AirPlay speakers with Lightning docks (press images)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/bandw-zeppelin-air-and-z2-airplay-speakers-with-lightning-docks-press-images/5745521?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/03/bowerswilkinsz2blackiphoneairplay_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/bandw-zeppelin-air-and-z2-airplay-speakers-with-lightning-docks-press-images/5745519?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/03/bowerswilkinsz2whiteiphoneairplay_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/bandw-zeppelin-air-and-z2-airplay-speakers-with-lightning-docks-press-images/5745526?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/03/bowerswilkins-zeppelin-air-iphone5-white-background_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/bandw-zeppelin-air-and-z2-airplay-speakers-with-lightning-docks-press-images/5745537?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/03/bowerswilkins-zeppelin-air-iphone5-plinth_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/bandw-zeppelin-air-and-z2-airplay-speakers-with-lightning-docks-press-images/5745512?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/03/bowerswilkinsz2blackiphone4study_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></p><p> Meeting with B&amp;W we were able to give both a quick listen; the Zeppelin still sounds like we remembered, while the Z2 pumped a large amount of volume for it's size (albeit a good deal muddy at its loudest settings). At first, the group hooked the cable up to various iOS devices expecting 1080p mirroring, but were greeted with 1,600 x 900 as the highest possible resolution. A bit bewildered, they noticed MPEG artifacts, which led them to believe the dongle was acting as a small <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/AirPlaylike/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">AirPlay-like</a> receiver that supports streaming and decoding. Now entirely suspicious, the team tore the cable asunder and exposed an ARM SoC apparently packing 256MB of RAM. According to the devs, it's possible that the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/12/apple-details-new-dock-connector-its-called-lightning/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Lightning connector's</a> small number of pins prevented Cupertino from delivering raw HDMI output, so they were forced to improvise with the added silicon. We've reached out to Apple to nail down just how the cable works.</p>

HBO Go and Max Go users with Apple products filling the home will now be able to enjoy AirPlay beaming. Straight from the man himself:</p><blockquote> <p> "Our long-term goal for Go is to be on all platforms and all devices. Effective today, we will be enabling AirPlay -- any device that allows users to watch on the big screen is great. You can play HBO Go on your iPhone or iPad, and then beam that to your HDTV via an Apple TV using AirPlay."</p></blockquote><p> It appears that neither app has seen an update in Apple's App Store just yet, but we're guessing it's only a matter of time before both are refreshed. [<em><strong>Update</strong>: Looks as if both updates are now live!</em>] Unfortunately, it doesn't seem that HBO will be <em>on</em> Apple TV for some time yet. Host Kara Swisher asked Kessler what the problem was in getting 'em on there. His reply? "We will get on Apple TV -- there is no problem. These things take time."</p><p> We spoke firsthand with Kessler following his interview, and he affirmed that there's no 30 percent revenue cut to worry about with Apple TV like there is for conventional apps on the App Store. It seemed that HBO simply viewed this as a lower priority now that AirPlay is a reality, and it may go a long way to explaining why so many other video apps are opting for AirPlay inclusion rather than focusing efforts on a dedicated Apple TV app.</p>

While the company <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/08/09/klipsch-new-image-one-bluetooth-headphones/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">showed us</a> its latest ear-gear in the fall of 2011, it's kicking off 2013 at CES with a focus on speakers. It was a year ago when we checked out a mockup of Klipsch's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/09/klipsch-airplay-speakers-ces/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Stadium</a> AirPlay speaker, and it's finally poised to hit shelves in the coming months. Part of its Music Center lineup, the visually striking, wireless 2.1 system (pictured right) hasn't changed aesthetically, but the company does have more to share when it comes to specs and availability. In addition to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/airplay/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">AirPlay</a>, it's now loaded with DLNA and Bluetooth, with compatibility for <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/aptx/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">aptX</a>. The Stadium is loaded with a duo of 5.25-inch subwoofers, a pair of three-inch woofers for mids and a pair of 1-inch "horn-loaded" tweeters to handle the highs. Now word on price just yet, but north of $1,500 (yes, you read that right, audiophiles) wouldn't be a bad guess when it arrives this summer.</p><p> For those looking solely for Bluetooth connectivity in a semi-portable package, Klipsch's KMC3 (pictured left) might be the ticket. This 130-watt system features a 5.25-inch subwoofer and a pair of two-inch full-range drivers. Naturally, an 3.5mm input lets you plug your devices in the old fashioned way, while an integrated USB port can be used for charging your devices. Sadly, there's also no word on price for the KMC3, but it should arrive a bit sooner in the spring. Klipsch says it has more planned for the Music Center line this year as well, so we'll keep you posted when we hear more. More details in the press release after the break.</p>

Launching its new OMNI system, the audio maker hopes to bring a little AirPlay magic to your house, without excluding some of your legacy hardware. The system consists of modular elements that let you add your passive speakers into the mix, as well as work together as a whole. More specifically, the OMNI SP3 and SP5i units are all-in-one 2.1 systems, and there's a dedicated subwoofer too. But, if you don't have or want their own breed, you can bring in your own. The OMNI Amp is a 2 x 40W stereo amplifier and AirPlay receiver that lets you play your music with your existing passive bookshelf or floor-mounted gear, and active speakers can be looped into the AirPlay party with the OMNI link box. The speakers are provisionally set to cost $249 (for the SP3i) and $349 (for the SP5i and sub), while the amp and link boxes will likely set you back $199 and $129 respectively. No word on the official launch date, but head on over to the press release for more info.</p><p> <em>Follow all the latest CES 2013 news at our <a href="http://www.engadget.com/event/ces2013/articles/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">event hub</a>.</em></p>

The more clearly defined Plex Home Theater syncs up with the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/12/02/xbmc-12-beta-2-rolls-out-brings-first-android-beta-apk/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">XBMC 12</a> beta and simplifies Plex's own update process. For those in the living room, shifting to the newer base brings <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/AirPlay/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">AirPlay</a> streaming from nearby Apple-friendly gear as well as 10-bit H.264 video and HD audio. Behind-the-scenes updates bring more efficient video rendering and fix some older bugs, such as audio sync with SD footage. The catch to enjoying all this? As the upgrade is pre-release code, Plex is limiting early access to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/08/30/plex-launches-new-web-client-and-plexpass-subscription/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">PlexPass</a> subscribers. Media mavens still willing to pay the premium can check out the source link for an upgrade to their end-of-year movie marathons.</p>

While only bumping it to v11.0.1, the refresh adds the ability to easily weed out duplicate items in one's iTunes library -- a feature that was mysteriously removed in the original move from iTunes 10 to iTunes 11. We're also told that it solves an issue where "purchases in iCloud may not appear in one's library if iTunes Match is turned on," makes the program as a whole more responsive when sifting through a vast music library, and solves a quirk where the AirPlay button may not "appear as expected." For those eager enough, a simple refresh of Software Update should have you on your way to a little newness.</p>

The small startup of Nokia defectors has been making heavy use of guerilla marketing to gain exposure for its see-thru noiseybox since as far back as last year's CES. All in all, it's worked -- most recently, the speaker got a cameo in <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/28/will-i-am-iphone-accessories-hands-on/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Will.i.am</a> and Britney Spears' <a href="http://youtu.be/kYtGl1dX5qI?t=3m50s ">"Scream and Shout" music video</a>. Despite all the exposure, however, you'd be hard-pressed to find one if you'd been interested in spending your hard-earned coin on the rig. Today that's set to change, as the people at People People have taken to <a href="http://engadget.com/tag/kickstarter?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Kickstarter</a> in hopes of raising $120,000 to make the system a production reality. You'll find more details by joining us past the break. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/people-people-abs-transparent-speaker/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">People People AB's Transparent speaker</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/people-people-abs-transparent-speaker/5497834?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/12/dsc05351_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/people-people-abs-transparent-speaker/5497835?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/12/dsc05353_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/people-people-abs-transparent-speaker/5497836?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/12/dsc05355_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/people-people-abs-transparent-speaker/5497837?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/12/dsc05356_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/people-people-abs-transparent-speaker/5497839?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/12/dsc05361_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></p>

Other updates include the ability to tap a logo to open one's Guide of channels, the ability to add / remove videos from your playlists, clickable links in video descriptions and improved accessibility with VoiceOver. It's taken just shy of a year to ship since being <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/08/griffin-twenty-hands-on-video/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">announced at CES</a>, but now this $100 Apple-centric HiFi accessory is finally shipping. As a refresher, the Twenty docks with Apple's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/11/apple-slips-out-new-airport-express-with-simultaneous-dual-band/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">AirPort Express</a> WiFi router, allowing you to bring the benefits of AirPlay to any 2.1 speakers (left, right and sub channels) you choose to pair it with. Pass-thru power is supplied to your AirPort, sparing the need to plug it into a wall, but its audio connection to the Twenty gets handled by an included TOS-link cable. The Twenty is rated for 40 watts of peak output (20x2) with an active subwoofer crossover at 80hz, and a chunky volume dial adds some analog-esque tactility to setting the overall level. If you're looking to give your wired speakers a WiFi-enabled upgrade, head over to the source link below -- video overview and press release just after the break.</p>

That said, many of them don't offer a satisfying multimedia experience, so even for a latecomer like <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/xiaomi?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Xiaomi</a>, there's still space for competition. Having just launched the much anticipated <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/14/xiaomi-phone-2-mi-two-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Xiaomi Phone 2</a>, the Chinese startup recently announced that it had acquired digital content provider Duokan for some time, and the first fruit is this conveniently named Xiaomi Box. Even with the bundled one-meter HDMI cable, the pebble's priced at a competitive &yen;399 (about $64) and we've been told it'll be available in mid-December. Better yet, it claims to be compatible with AirPlay right out of the box! Read on to see if that's the case with our pre-production unit.</p><p> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/xiaomi-box/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Xiaomi Box taps the Chinese smart TV market on the cheap, flirts with AirPlay (hands-on)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/xiaomi-box/5432966?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/11/xiaomi-box-2012-11-14_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/xiaomi-box/5432941?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/11/xiaomi-box-2012-11-14-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/xiaomi-box/5432942?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/11/xiaomi-box-2012-11-14-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/xiaomi-box/5432964?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/11/xiaomi-box-2012-11-14-15_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/xiaomi-box/5432943?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/11/xiaomi-box-2012-11-14-3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></p>

This week's <a href="http://ask.engadget.com/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Ask Engadget</a> inquiry is from Wes, who needs to ensure that Delta Tau Chi don't start interfering with his band practice sessions. If you're looking to ask one of your own, drop us a line at <strong><em>ask [at] engadget [dawt] com. </em></strong></p><blockquote> <p> "I'm a university band director, and I need a WiFi stereo receiver for our rehearsal space. The problem is, that it would have to join the same network that the students and faculty all share. I want to be able to Airplay music and related apps (like a metronome) through the setup, but I'm worried that any student can connect and mess with it. I can't seem to find a receiver that requires a separate password to connect to it, so I could really use some help! Thanks, Wes"</p></blockquote><p> Wes, we'll help you on one condition: the next time you're directing a half-time show, the band has to stand in the shape of the Engadget logo. Deal? Good.</p><ul> <li> It's very easy to set an AirPlay access code onto an <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/07/apple-tv-2012-hands-on/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Apple TV</a>. That way, if anyone wants to start pushing tunes (or apps) to your sound system, you have to enter a four-digit code of your choosing.</li> <li> You can also control permissions on other AirPlay devices like the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/07/10/sony-str-dn1030-av-receiver-with-airplay-wifi-and-bluetooth-sta/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Sony STR-DN1030</a>, but there's a limit of 20 devices, and it's a little bit fiddly.</li></ul><p> Of course, this wouldn't be Ask Engadget without some audience participation, so, dear audience, participate! Share your knowledge, tell us tales and spread some love this weekend -- but only if said love is related to the world of AirPlay passwords.</p>

Those who find that stealthy sound appealing will be glad to hear that the more advanced of the two SoundFly speakers, the SoundFly Air, is now shipping. The 20W box will play audio streamed from any <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/AirPlay/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">AirPlay</a>-capable device on the same WiFi network while it sits demurely on a wall outlet. JBL is counting on a few tricks to set itself apart from the rest of the similarly Apple-oriented pack, such as linking up to four of the speakers for whole-home audio and offering an iOS app to tailor the output to the room. About the only reservation is a $199 shipping price for something that isn't as portable or universal as a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/28/jawbone-jambox-vs-soundmatters-foxl-v2-fight/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Jawbone Jambox</a>, but that may be the price to pay for a speaker that can offer longer range and syncing while it very nearly blends into the furniture.</p>

You've got twice as many options as you might have had just a few years ago. The Digital Living Network Alliance says that it has certified over 500 AV systems, handily doubling the number of devices it has certified since 2010. The organization issued a press release lambasting the dark ages of pre-DLNA AV setups and the "bulky <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/23/vhs-distribution-grinds-to-a-halt/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">tapes</a>, memory cards, discs and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/01/the-cd-celebrates-its-30th-birthday-recalls-a-time-when-it-was/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">CDs</a>" that media lovers once had to contend with. "Consumers are demanding more from their digital content and looking for ways to access media from multiple devices on their home network," explains DLNA chairman and president Nidhish Parikh. "Certified AV systems are able to communicate with other consumer electronics... ...effectively expanding the boundaries of the digital home through easy interoperability." More connected devices for folks outside of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/airplay?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Apple ecosystem</a>? Sounds good to us -- even if most devices pack in <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/airplay,%20DLNA?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">compatibility for both</a>.</p>

Rara's 18 million tracks haven't only invaded other platforms, but other countries, too -- residents of Brazil, Mexico, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, South Africa and Portugal have joined the party, bringing the total number of compatible countries to 27. <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/lenovo?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Lenovo</a> is also getting a piece of the action, as a worldwide agreement means Rara software will now come pre-installed on the manufacturer's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/16/lenovo-ideatab-s2110-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Android tablets</a> and <a href="mailto:http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/09/lenovo-ideapad-yoga-13-shipping-ideapad-yoga-11/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Windows 8 gear</a>. With a TV, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/02/bang-and-olufsen-v1-tv-and-a3-ipad-dock/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">a hybrid iPad dock</a>, an iPad friendly speaker system and a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/11/bang-and-olufsen-intros-bando-play-brand-showcases-800-beolit-12-p/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">portable speaker</a> already under its belt, Bang &amp; Olufsen's spin-off brand is ready to <em>really</em> get the festivities going with its new BeoPlay A9. Starting at cool $2,799, this <strike>satellite dish</strike> circular eye-catcher also doubles as a full-on 2.1 speaker system. Simply put, we'd describe its looks as a super-sized half of the BeoPlay A8 speaker dock. We'd guess the A9 stands at roughly three feet tall (legs mounted) and three feet wide based on our quick in-person look. Behind its fabric grill you'll find a duo of three-quarter-inch tweeters and a pair of three-inch mid-range drivers, all of which get their power from independent 80-watt digital amps. Of course, the A9 brings the rumble as well, featuring an 8-inch "bass unit" that gets double the wattage of its drivers. Notably, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/airplay/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">AirPlay</a> &amp; <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/dlna/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">DLNA</a> are baked right in, ensuring you'll have access to WiFi streaming across whichever platforms you prefer.</p><p> You won't find any physical controls, but on the top-edge of its backside you'll notice a status light and a power button, both separated by a long touch-sensitive strip that lets you adjusts the volume, or mute it completely. Below that, a pop-off cap hides a USB port for docking and charging devices and a 3.5mm jack if wireless isn't an option, but it's also where an admittedly unsightly power cord plugs in as well. As you can see in the photo, the A9 can be supported by a trio of wooden legs, however, it can also be wall-mounted or hung from a ceiling like the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/22/new-beoplay-v1-shows-up-ahead-of-time-hearts-and-wallets-flutte/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">BeoPlay V1 TV</a> -- thankfully, it features three DSP presets to cope with however you'd decide to place it. As you might imagine, it's also incredibly loud -- just a duo of A9s were being used as the sound system at the large Penthouse party we were in. As such, it wasn't an ideal environment to comment much further on its audio performance.</p><p> If it's up your alley, expect the system to hit B&amp;O and select Apple stores near the end of November, with your choice of a black, red, silver, green or white grill, and wooden legs in beech, oak or teak -- all of which can be purchased separately. For now, you can get your own eyes-on with it in the gallery below. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/bando-play-a9-speaker-system/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">B&amp;O Play A9 wireless speaker system (eyes-on)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/bando-play-a9-speaker-system/5337425?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/10/dsc03832-1349367689_thumbnail.jpg" alt="B&amp;O Play A9 2.1 wireless speaker system" title="B&amp;O Play A9 2.1 wireless speaker system" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/bando-play-a9-speaker-system/5337426?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/10/dsc03835_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/bando-play-a9-speaker-system/5337427?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/10/dsc03838_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/bando-play-a9-speaker-system/5337428?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/10/dsc03840_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/bando-play-a9-speaker-system/5337429?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/10/dsc03843_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></p><p> <strong>Update:</strong> Check out the video past the break to catch a video of how it's made.</p>

<p class="image-container" style="text-align: center;"> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/27/harman-jbl-new-speaker-docks/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img alt="Harman showsoff its upcomming JBL docks and speakers, we go eyeson" data-src-height="413" data-src-width="620" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/09/dsc03810.jpg" /></a></p><p> Harman announced a fair amount of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/JBL?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">JBL</a>-branded speakers back at <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/IFA/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">IFA</a>, but that wasn't all it had to announce before the year goes out. Today we met with in the company in NYC, where it was ready to show off even more of its upcoming wireless and dock speakers. In fact, don't tell Harman that the 30-pin connector is on its way out, as its $199 OnBeat Venue (seen above and $139 OnBeat aWake are ready to pair up with your last-gen iOS devices. The Venue is rated for a peak output of 30-watts and features a stow-away dock a tweeter and woofer combo for both stereo channels, component outputs for use with TVs, an obligatory 3.5mm jack and Bluetooth if you'd prefer to go wireless. The aWake shrinks things down to about 13 watts, and features a digital clock so that you can use it on your bedside night stand -- despite its small size, it'll easily dock an iPad. Both systems also work with free JBL apps for iOS that'll enhance the experience. According to the company, it's also working on solutions for the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/lightning/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Lightning </a>connector, but wouldn't reveal any hard details. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/jbl-onbeat-venue-and-awake-bluetooth-speaker-docks-eyes-on/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">JBL Onbeat Venue and aWake Bluetooth speaker docks eyes-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/jbl-onbeat-venue-and-awake-bluetooth-speaker-docks-eyes-on/5321542?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/09/dsc03802_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/jbl-onbeat-venue-and-awake-bluetooth-speaker-docks-eyes-on/5321543?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/09/dsc03803_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/jbl-onbeat-venue-and-awake-bluetooth-speaker-docks-eyes-on/5321544?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/09/dsc03804_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/jbl-onbeat-venue-and-awake-bluetooth-speaker-docks-eyes-on/5321546?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/09/dsc03806_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/jbl-onbeat-venue-and-awake-bluetooth-speaker-docks-eyes-on/5321547?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/09/dsc03807_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></p><p> Moving along to dedicated speakers, you might recall the SoundFly BT, which recently got outed during its trip to the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/07/06/jbl-extra-tiny-soundfly-bt-wall-outlet-speaker-spoiled-by-fcc/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">FCC</a>. The 20-watt Bluetooth-equipped unit is strictly intended to plug directly into wall outlets, having only a status light with no inputs or buttons. It'll set you back $149 when it hits shelves, and if you tack another another $50 you can get an AirPlay-equipped version instead. We gave the BT a quick listen and it sounded surprisingly big with a fair amount of bass extension -- impressive considering it's petite and it plug-friendly design. A Harmon rep even noted that the hotel we were in was interested in procuring some for its rooms. Sadly, the units aren't remotely water-resistant, even though our demo area was a bathroom.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/jbl-soundfly-bt-and-air-eyes-on/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">JBL SoundFly BT and Air eyes-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/jbl-soundfly-bt-and-air-eyes-on/5321561?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/09/dsc03819_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/jbl-soundfly-bt-and-air-eyes-on/5321563?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/09/dsc03821_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/jbl-soundfly-bt-and-air-eyes-on/5321564?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/09/dsc03822-1348779956_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/jbl-soundfly-bt-and-air-eyes-on/5321566?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/09/dsc03824_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/jbl-soundfly-bt-and-air-eyes-on/5321567?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/09/dsc03825_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></p><p> Lastly, we're actually most intrigued by the $59 Harman / Kardon BTA 10 dongle. The nearly matchbook-sized box connects to any speaker via its 3.5mm jack, allowing you to stream over Bluetooth 4.0 on the fly. Power is supplied via a micro-USB cable, and a blue indicator light lets you know that it's powered up. Harmon's mainly created it to add Bluetooth functionality to its non-wireless speakers, but it can be used with any speaker of your choice. We're also told that it overs very high-quality, despite being Bluetooth, thanks to some in-house development dubbed as TrueStream. There's no exact word on when all of these units will hit shelves, but you can peek the galleries for better looks -- check the source link for full details.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/harman-kardon-bta-10-bluetooh-adapter/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Harman / Kardon BTA 10 Bluetooth Adapter eyes-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/harman-kardon-bta-10-bluetooh-adapter/5321582?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/09/dsc03795_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/harman-kardon-bta-10-bluetooh-adapter/5321583?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/09/dsc03796_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/harman-kardon-bta-10-bluetooh-adapter/5321584?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/09/dsc03797_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/harman-kardon-bta-10-bluetooh-adapter/5321585?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/09/dsc03798_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/harman-kardon-bta-10-bluetooh-adapter/5321586?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/09/dsc03799_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></p>

<p class="image-container" style="text-align: center;"> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/26/libratone-zipp-portable-airplay-speaker/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img alt="Libratone Zipp" data-src-height="413" data-src-width="620" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/09/dsc03742-1348615967.jpg" /></a></p><p> If you've been following the surge of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/airplay?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">AirPlay</a> speakers that started <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/08/apple-airplay-devices-set-to-explode-in-2011/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">hitting the market in 2011</a>, you've likely feasted your eyes on the spendy wool-clad systems by Libratone. While its larger <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/02/libratone-live-and-lounge-airplay-speakers-now-available-in-the/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Live</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/21/libratones-airplay-enabled-soundbars-want-to-cozy-up-with-your/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Lounge</a> units have primarily been purposed for households, its new Zipp speaker is the being touted as the "first and only" portable AirPlay speaker. Make no mistake, unlike B&amp;O Play's portable AirPlay-equipped <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/11/bang-and-olufsen-intros-bando-play-brand-showcases-800-beolit-12-p/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Beolit 12</a> ($800), the Zipp's loaded with Libratone's proprietary PlayDirect protocol, meaning it doesn't require a separate wireless network / router for iDevices to connect to it over the air. The Zipp moniker is a play on the swappable wool grill which cozies around its vertically-standing tubular enclosures. Weighing four pounds and measuring in at 10.2 inches high by 4.8 inches in diameter, this "portable" unit is a good bit larger than the Blutooth-equipped <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/01/jawbone-big-jambox-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Jawbone Big Jambox</a> placed sideways, but it'll certainly fit in a backpack -- hey, it does have a leather carrying strap. Thankfully, that weight is partially due to its internal rechargeable battery, which should last up to eight hours.</p><p> As far as the speakers go, you'll find a duo of 1-inch ribbon tweeters facing the sides for the left and right channels, along with a 4-inch up-firing woofer. The rig also features Libratone's signature FullRoom design, which forces a 360-degree dispersion of the sound by way of deflectors in front of the tweeters. Beyond that, it'll naturally work with Libratone's existing iPhone app, allowing you to change the DSP on the fly for optimal output regardless of its placement in a room. The Zipp will hit Apple Stores later this October wrapped with a single red or grey zippered grill for $399, while other retailers will carry the $449 Classic Color and Funky Color editions, which each come with a trio of those wool grills (black, blue and red for the Classic, and black, pink and yellow for the Funky). Past that, a single grill by itself will cost you a relatively expensive $49 directly from Libratone. In the meantime, join us past the break for more details about the unit itself and PlayDirect, our initial impressions and a hands-on video overview. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/libratone-zipp-airplay-speaker-hands-on/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Libratone Zipp AirPlay speaker (hands-on)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/libratone-zipp-airplay-speaker-hands-on/5314201?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/09/dsc03742-1348616134_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/libratone-zipp-airplay-speaker-hands-on/5314202?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/09/dsc03743-1348616138_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/libratone-zipp-airplay-speaker-hands-on/5314203?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/09/dsc03745-1348616142_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/libratone-zipp-airplay-speaker-hands-on/5314204?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/09/dsc03747-1348616145_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/libratone-zipp-airplay-speaker-hands-on/5314205?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/09/dsc03750-1348616148_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/libratone-zipp-press-shots/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Libratone Zipp (press shots)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/libratone-zipp-press-shots/5314143?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/09/libratonezippclassiccollection06-1348612576_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/libratone-zipp-press-shots/5314144?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/09/libratonezippcolorboxclassiccollectionlt-300-na-2801_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/libratone-zipp-press-shots/5314145?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/09/libratonezippcolorboxfunkycollectionlt-300-na-2901_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/libratone-zipp-press-shots/5314146?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/09/libratonezippraspberryred01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/libratone-zipp-press-shots/5314147?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/09/libratonezippraspberryred03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></p>

Both shared photo streaming and iTunes account switching are now part of Apple's set-top box -- the combination of those two finally freeing parents from the potential nightmare of discovering their child's "not safe for parents" photo streams, of course. The update, spotted by <em><a href="http://www.macrumors.com/2012/09/24/apple-releases-5-1-update-for-2nd-and-3rd-generation-apple-tv/">MacRumors</a></em>, also adds some new AirPlay functionality, enabling users to "send audio content from Apple TV to AirPlay-enabled speakers and devices (including AirPort Express and other Apple TVs)." Beyond those two biggies, however, the rest of the update is rather nuts and bolts oriented -- head below for the full list.</p>

Its new DS-A5 docking station brings Apple's WiFi media streaming to many home stereos, including those of rivals, as long as there's a wired or 802.11g-capable wireless router to feed the connection. Naturally, there's perks if you do live in an Onkyo universe -- any link using its Remote Interactive cable can both wake the stereo through AirPlay as well as control the dock from a traditional remote. About the only oddities are the vintage composite video output and a 30-pin dock for charging iPads, iPhones and iPods, neither of which will be much help if you live <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/18/apple-iphone-5-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">on the cutting edge</a>. Onkyo brings the DS-A5 to American shores in October for $199; that's a lot to pay for playing songs from the couch, but it's a sight more affordable than replacing home audio equipment costing multiple times that amount.</p>
