Yeah, we're well aware that our fascination with unique and multi-hued timepieces may be more of an obsession. Well, you can add another to the list with the Kisai Rogue Touch Pocket Watch from Tokyoflash. Enclosed by a stainless steel case with brushed edges, the $149 timekeeper makes use of a LCD display with LED backlights in your choice of four color options. The watch's face is protected by a spring-hinged cover and crystal lens. You'll notice a similar dial design to that of the Rogue Touch of the wrist wrapping variety, as this watch also sports four hot-zones for switching between modes. Capable of displaying two time zones, along with date and an alarm, the pocket watch uses an animation to monitor the hours instead of those clunky mechanized arms. If you're wanting a closer look hit the gallery below, and to see the timepiece in action, peep the video just past the break.
Need to keep track of time for two locations at once? Fret not, because the Tokyoflash-designed Kisai Rogue Touch's dual timezone watch has got your back (if you can read it, that is). Being a Rogue variant, you'll notice a backlit-LED/LCD dial with a familiar multi-circle layout, but with more layers for the additional time. Aside from hours and minutes, it displays the current date and progression of seconds and notably, features an animation mode for showing it off to your buddies. Of course as the name implies, the readout is adjustable using four touch-sensitive hotspots for the alarm, date and time, or to simply light up the display. If you're up to the task of using it, the Kisai Rogue Touch is available from Tokyoflash in a choice of four dial colors for $200. While you're still here, peek the gallery, along with the video demo past the break below to get a better idea for how it works (Pro tip: if you order in the next 48 hours, it'll be 20 bucks less for that Starship Enterprise feel you'll get with every glance).

Gallery: Tokyoflash Kisai Rogue Touch press photos

Tokyoflash is notorious for selling geek-friendly and borderline indecipherable timepieces but, not every watch the company hawks is unreadable. One of its more easily interpreted wrist clocks, the Rogue, has been resurrected with an always-on LCD display (a rarity from the shop) and a brightly colored LED backlight in your choice of red, green, blue, or orange. Like the RPM, the Rogue SR2 tells time with a series of unnumbered, inner and outer rings that represent hours and minutes -- all you need to do is spot the gaps. Sure, it requires you fire a few more synapses than that cheap digital Casio you've been wearing, but think of it as mental exercise -- it's like wearing Brain Age on your wrist. You can order one now for $179 at the source, and don't forget to head after the break for one more photo and a video demonstration.
Continue reading Tokyoflash resurrects readable Rogue watch with combo LCD/LED display (video)

Tokyoflash resurrects readable Rogue watch with combo LCD/LED display (video) originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 23 Jun 2011 11:07:00 EST. Imagination Technologies may not be a household name, but they created the PowerVR GPUs that are the gold standard in mobile graphics, and are a part of the ARM SoCs you find in mobile devices like the iPhone 4, Galaxy S, and the Droid 2. Not one to rest on its laurels, the company unveiled its new Series 6 PowerVR chips -- affectionately known as "Rogue" -- that are 20 to 100 times more powerful than its previous handheld offerings. That's right, these GPUs will have the same horsepower as today's desktop computers while needing only a milliwatt of juice to deliver face-melting graphics -- the catch is that this bit of black magic won't be showing up in devices for a few years. Guess we'll just have to settle for the Series 5 chips -- like the quad core beast found in the Sony NGP and the upcoming OMAP 5 platform -- which the company promises will make their way into select smartphones "within three months." Be still, our gaming hearts.

Update: Three months? Hardly, ST-Ericsson has announced a series of new SoC processors, including the Nova 9600 that has "Rogue" baked in. The chip delivers HD video at 120 frames per second and can pull off pro-quality 3D video recording as well. Press release is after the break.
In the George A. Romero classic, Night of the Living Dead, a radioactive satellite falls to earth and causes the dead to rise from their graves -- but what if the satellite itself had become a zombie? That's the slightly less frightening reality that has befallen Intelsat's Galaxy 15 communications satellite, which "went rogue" in April of 2010 and has been unresponsive ever since -- even though it has continued to transmit signals. Late last month, however, the satellite finally came back to life, and Intelsat was able to put it into safe mode to prevent it from interfering with other communications satellites. It's apparently even now trying to determine if the satellite could become fully functional again -- although, if you ask us, that just sounds like it's all part of the zombie satellite's plan...
'Zombie satellite' springs back to life, actual zombies still zombies originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 03 Jan 2011 12:50:00 EST.
We just heard a couple of weeks ago that Samsung's Rogue and Intensity phones would be landing on Verizon sometime soon, and then we heard again that they'd be making their debut on September 8th and -- wouldn't you know it -- they've now both made their debut on September 8th. The higher-end of two is the Rogue U960, which replaces the Samsung Glyde and packs the same slide-out QWERTY keypad as before, along with a 3.1-inch AMOLED resistive touchscreen, a 3 megapixel camera with LED flash, a microSD card slot and, of course, the usual TouchWiz interface. The Intensity U450, on the other hand, hangs onto the sliding QWERTY keyboard for easy texting but drops the touchscreen altogether, and keeps things fairly lightweight all around, including a 1.3 megapixel camera, and not so much as EV-DO for data. Of course, it also comes with an equally lightweight price (free on a two-year contract), while the Rogue will set you back $99.99 on the same contract.

Time to finally give that Glyde a proper burial at sea (or recycling center, or baby cousin who needs a phone, or whatever). The oft-rumored Rogue is finally available, notably featuring a 3.1-inch AMOLED display (Verizon calls it "ultra brilliant"), a 3 megapixel cam with flash and on-board editing, microSD support up to 16GB, full HTML browsing, Microsoft Office document viewing, TouchWiz, and naturally, that full slide-out keyboard that makes it a Glyde killer. Grab it now for $99.99 on contract.
Filed under: Handsets, Samsung, Verizon Wireless, EV-DO, CDMA

Samsung Rogue now official on Verizon originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 08 Sep 2009 11:29:00 EST. Most of the time when we're taking a good, hard look at a phone's user interface, we're looking at the big picture -- the home screen, the main menu, the dialer, the browser. You know, the things you're using day in and day out. Samsung's dug a bit deeper for the launch of its upcoming Rogue, though, putting together a pretty wild radar-style display for Bluetooth pairing. The idea's simple: discoverable hardware around you appears as blips on the screen with your phone at the center; when you see the blip you want to pair, just drag it to the center. We can pretty much guarantee that the relative locations of in-range devices have no bearing on reality, but still, turning something as mundane as connecting your Bluetooth headset into a mini-game is paradoxically both awesome and annoying beyond words.
Update: The Eternity works the same way -- and some other recent Samsungs, we'd presume -- but it's still a pretty interesting trick. With names like "Rogue" and "Intensity," we're totally picturing these phones breaking out of their tethers in Verizon stores, wreaking havoc, pickpocketing customers, and stealing identities during credit checks -- but in reality, we've just got a couple of unassuming QWERTY sliders in the mix here. Starting with the lower of the two, the Intensity keeps things simple by leaving out 3G and sticking with a 1.3 megapixel camera, so we're thinking this slots in right underneath the Rival as far as Big Red's text-heavy wares go. Moving up, the Rogue is looking to put the Glyde out to pasture with a 3.1-inch WVGA AMOLED display, 3 megapixel cam with autofocus, HTML browser, and naturally, TouchWiz. Both units hit streets on September 8; you'll pay $199.99 with a $100 rebate on a new two-year agreement for the pricey Rogue, while the more pocketbook-friendly Intensity runs $79.99 on contract with a $50 rebate.
We've heard about a good number of these phones were bound for Verizon Wireless already, but if this leaked doc via Boy Genius Report is to be believed, we now have a much better idea when they should be within reach of consumer hands. First up is Samsung Rogue for sometime this month (we previously heard today, but that's looking very doubtful at this point) for an estimated $370 subsidized. Next on the calendar is the "female centric" Nokia Twist 7705 in late September for $230, which more likely than not is the swiveling device we've seen on two prior occasions. Also due out next month is the Samsung Intensity for $130 (screenshot after the break). LG Chocolate Touch was rumored by Best Buy for today, but here it's listed for an October debut, along with Storm 2, a "low cost QWERTY" HTC Razzle / Blitz 2 (XV6175, perhaps?), and the Motorola Sholes "Google Phone," red D-pad likely in tow, all with TBD price tags. Rounding out the list in late November is the BlackBerry Curve 2, which we wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be the 8530. The first one expected for public is the Rogue, replacing the Alias 2 that just launched back in May. If you want to get in on the Glyde's successor in the next few months, odds are good you'll be asking for the Rogue when you mosey into the store. Actually, the odds are virtually 100 percent now that Verizon has kicked off the Rogue's advertising campaign -- despite the fact that the phone is yet to be announced. Whoopsie! If we had to guess, this is a sign that the phone's announcement is imminent; last we'd heard it was on track for an August 23 launch, so we could definitely imagine a press release coming this week.

If this screen capture to be believed, August 23rd is gearing up to be one helluva day for phone lovers. According to this snapshot from Best Buy's computers, that's when LG's desirable BL40 Chocolate Touch will be making its way into the consumer world, alongside a red Xenon and a bevy of Samsung phones including Omnia 2, Rogue, and Solstice. No clue on what the Tour is doing up there dated for the 23rd, since it's already out on both Verizon and Sprint, but perhaps a major shipment is in the works. As for that M330 for September 8th? Yeah, we're not sure. The word "Rogue" conjures images of awesome X-Men characters, small Nissan SUVs, and badasses who don't take crap from nobody -- but QWERTY sliders on Verizon? We'll admit, we didn't see that one coming. The would-be Glyde replacement is apparently lined up for a release date around the 15th of August, and we're seeing it now for the first time in pristine press shots following some in-the-wild action early in the month. We can tell already that it's going to be a better-looking phone than its predecessor, and the word on the street is that it works as good as it looks; if anything, it's a shame they didn't just go ahead and slap WinMo on here and call it an Omnia Pro. Can't win 'em all, we suppose.
Filed under: Handsets, Samsung, Verizon Wireless, EV-DO, CDMA

Samsung's u960 Rogue for Verizon has best name ever; looks alright, too originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 31 Jul 2009 08:19:00 EST. Yeah, O2 UK just got up the nerve to actually offer it up for sale, but it's doing the smart thing by selling it for £0.00 on a Pay Monthly contract. In case you've forgotten the specs, this one boasts up to 8GB of expandable memory, a 3.2 megapixel camera, MP3 player, inbuilt speakers, up to 9.5 hours of talk time, video capturing abilities, an FM radio, a 2-inch display and 3G data support. You know, on second thought -- maybe that color combination is starting to grow on us.

[Via MobileBurn]
Filed under: Handsets, Sony Ericsson, GSM, EDGE, HSDPA

O2 starts offering Sony Ericsson's T700 Red Gold originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 20 Mar 2009 11:03:00 EST.
