<p>Boost Mobile launched a Mobile Wallet app and service today at CTIA 2013 with an interesting twist in that it is tied to a Visa Prepaid card. Boost Mobile customers simply hit up a store to get signed up, download an app onto their handset and once funds are added to their account can use them in a wide variety of ways. From sending money via the app to people in 135 other countries, the ability to pay more than 3,500 billers nationwide, top up your prepaid account and using the included Visa debit card any money in your account can be accessed via that card as well. The app also makes use of your handset's camera with its Quick Check feature -- which is coming soon -- allowing an account holder to snap a photo of a check and submit it using the app to have the check's value added to your mobile wallet once approved -- which is nifty, if you don't use a bank we suppose. There are no month-to-month fees for the service but each bill you pay will cost some $2 and climbs depending on how quickly you need the payment made against the account. The service launches in Los Angeles, San Diego and parts of New Jersey today with rollout to all markets expected by the end of the year. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/boost-mobile-wallet-app-and-prepaid-visa-hands-on/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Boost Mobile Wallet app and prepaid Visa hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/boost-mobile-wallet-app-and-prepaid-visa-hands-on/5899536?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/05/ctia2013boostmobilewallet00_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/boost-mobile-wallet-app-and-prepaid-visa-hands-on/5899538?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/05/ctia2013boostmobilewallet02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/boost-mobile-wallet-app-and-prepaid-visa-hands-on/5899539?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/05/ctia2013boostmobilewallet03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/boost-mobile-wallet-app-and-prepaid-visa-hands-on/5899540?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/05/ctia2013boostmobilewallet04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></p>

<p class="image-container" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2013/05/21/kyocera-hydro-xtrm-and-hydro-edge-hands-on/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img alt="Kyocera" data-src-height="350" data-src-width="620" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/05/kyoceractiahandsonlead01.jpg" /></a></p>

<p>Kyocera kitted us out with toques, touch-sensitive gloves and giant black faux-fur coats -- well, Brad chose white -- and led us all into a bar made entirely of ice to launch its new handsets here at CTIA. Kyocera, playing off the tough-guy thing, had the Hydro Xtrm and Edge laid out on slabs of ice in a pretty frosty environment for us to handle with our gloved hands. Both handsets will be priced toward the lower end of the spectrum, with the Hydro Edge being the least expensive and most modestly specced of the two. Both devices are decent as far as material choices go, though the Edge was perhaps our favorite even if the Xtrm beats it out in the display department somehow. There weren't any water tanks to test out both sets <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/IPX5/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">IPX5</a> / <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/IPX7/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">IPX7</a> specs so we'll simply have to take Kyocera's word for it.</p>

<p>The Edge and Xtrm build on the previously launched <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Hydro/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Hydro</a> specs but with upgrades across the board. The Edge sports a dual-core 1Ghz CPU, tempered glass (instead of acrylic), 5-megapixel camera, 4-inch WVGA (480 X 800) 233-ppi display and Android Jelly Bean. The Xtrm adds LTE to the connectivity list also touts a 5-megapixel shooter, 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, the same display as the Edge, and Bluetooth 4. The Xtrm launches on US Cellular May 24th for $29.99 after instant rebate with the Edge joining the fun on Boost Mobile and Sprint during "Summer 2013." Check out the cool blue-hued pics in the gallery below. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/kyocera-at-ctia-2013/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Kyocera at CTIA 2013</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/kyocera-at-ctia-2013/5896673?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/05/kyoceractiahandson01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/kyocera-at-ctia-2013/5896674?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/05/kyoceractiahandson02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/kyocera-at-ctia-2013/5896681?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/05/kyoceractiahandson08_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/kyocera-at-ctia-2013/5896676?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/05/kyoceractiahandson04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/kyocera-at-ctia-2013/5896677?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/05/kyoceractiahandson05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></p>

Now, @evleaks has shared a peek of the device that's adorned with the Now Network's branding, and if all goes according to plans, the serial leaker suggests the phone will soon hit Sprint-owned Boost Mobile. A few notable features of the Optimus F7 include a 4.7-inch True HD IPS display, a dual-core 1.5GHz CPU, an 8-megapixel primary camera, 2GB RAM and Android 4.1.2, which would pose a heavy challenge to Boost's current premiere smartphone, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2013/02/06/htc-one-sv-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">HTC One SV</a>. Naturally, we'd certainly welcome the Optimus F7 on Sprint (and even Virgin Mobile), and given the Sprint Zone branding, we'll remain cautiously hopeful that Dan Hesse is thinking the same.</p>

That said, Boost Mobile is today introducing a $15 per month add-on that allows its users to phone up every single landline <em>and</em> mobile number in the country immediately south of America, assuming that it's added on to a monthly unlimited plan.</p><p> Curiously, the offer is only designed to stand through June 6th, and the company isn't mentioning what that sum will rise to after said date. For those who indulge, that $15 also includes limitless calling to landlines in over 45 nations (including Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Argentina and Colombia), unlimited calling to Canada, unlimited international text messaging worldwide from the United States and reduced calling rates to over 200 other destinations. Of course, this is assuming you still communicate via voice, which may or may not be true <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2013/02/26/live-from-the-connecting-the-next-billions-keynote-with-stephe/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">at this stage</a>.</p>

<p class="image-container" style="text-align: center;"> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2013/03/20/sprint-custom-device-program-branding-mvno/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img alt="Sprint allows its prepaid carrier partners to debrand Android phones, rid devices of bloatware" data-src-height="411" data-src-width="619" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/03/sprintjuice.jpg" /></a></p><p> In a move that could only be viewed as a step in the right direction, Sprint has just made a major move in the battle against bloatware. Its newly-unveiled <a href="http://newsroom.sprint.com/article_display.cfm?article_id=2539" target="_blank">Custom Branded Device Program</a> is being introduced just as prepaid carriers are beginning to see something of a resurgence. In a nutshell, the initiative enables its MVNO partners (carriers like Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile) to customize white-label Android phones. In case you needed to hear it another way, it'll give those partners the ability to "completely de-brand devices from Sprint." Of course, this opens the door for said partners to litter these phones with their own software, but it also provides an option to see phones in a manner that Americans rarely see unless they opt for pricier global (and unlocked) models.</p><p> Sprint is hoping that the program will allow its MVNO partners -- carriers who sell phones under their own brand but actually rely on Sprint's network for service -- to "have greater, and potentially quicker, access to a large selection of completely de-branded marquee Android handsets out of Sprint and Boost Mobile device inventory with volume pricing included." Presently, Sprint has three devices available for this program -- <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2013/03/07/lg-optimus-g-sprint-jelly-bean-update/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">LG Optimus G</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/09/lg-mach-for-sprint-hands-on/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">LG Mach</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/13/sprint-quietly-launches-zte-flash/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Sprint Flash</a> -- but additional devices are expected to be added by the month's end. Perhaps most interestingly, we <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/19/sprints-fared-adib-we-made-a-conscious-decision-to-scale-back/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">reported</a> back in July of 2011 that Sprint was making a "conscious decision to scale back bloatware on smartphones." Here's hoping that decision is soon realized.</p>

Boost and Virgin Mobile will be getting their very own 4G handsets, with help from Sprint's network. You can pick up <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/20/samsung-galaxy-victory-hands-on/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Samsung's Galaxy Victory 4G LTE</a> over on Virgin's site, starting today for $300 a pop (with more retailers getting in on the action in the middle of next month). Over on Boost, they've got <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2013/02/06/htc-one-sv-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">HTC's One SV</a> and the four-inch Boost Force, both dropping on March 7th. Those handsets will run you $300 and $200, respectively.</p>

Once this threshold is broken, the company will reduce users' download speeds to a snail-like 256kbps until they enter a new billing cycle. Earlier this year, Boost's sister carrier <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/19/virgin-mobile-targets-march-23rd-to-throttle-data/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Virgin started throttling</a> its customers under identical terms. Both companies operate on Sprint's network which currently offers "true" unlimited data to its postpaid subscribers. Boost claims that this change will affect a small percentage of its customers, but perhaps it should consider adopting a new campaign slogan when these changes go live. How about "Restricted: It's the new unlimited"?</p>

Along with the promise of something new and fantastic, it brings the fear of commitment, and even worse, the prospect of saddling yourself to a lousy device for two years. Fortunately for you, Engadget spends tons of time playing with the latest gear and we're constantly on the lookout for what's coming next. If you're wanting to take the pain out of shopping for a smartphone, you've come to the right place. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Engadget's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/smartphonebuyersguide?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">smartphone buyer's guide</a>: your one-stop resource to finding the best and most exciting handsets on the market today.</p><p> Before you dive in, however, we've introduced a few changes to the buyer's guide, so take a minute to prepare yourself for what's in store. First and foremost, you'll now find alternate selections to supplement our top picks. This should already be familiar to many of you, which is the same format we use for our seasonal gift guides. The next one is a biggie: we've dropped the QWERTY selection. By and large, manufacturers and carriers alike have shifted their focus away from keyboard-equipped smartphones, and you'll rarely find more than one option on any given carrier. That said, if you still insist on the tactile experience, you'll always find everything you need to know in our reviews. Finally, whenever possible, you'll now find prices from Amazon Wireless, which allows us to provide you with more compelling budget selections and highlight the substantial savings that you can score by circumventing the carriers. It's not like they need your charity, anyway.</p><p> If you're curious to see how it all unfolded -- and we know you are -- join us after the break, where we round up the very best smartphones of the season.</p>

The LG Venice, as it'll be more commonly known around these parts, boasts a 4.3-inch, WVGA screen alongside a 1GHz CPU, a 5-megapixel camera on the rear (VGA quality on the front) and a video mode capable of shooting up to 720p recordings -- of course, this is all running <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/16/lg-ui-3-0-android-ics-skin/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">LG's UI 3.0</a> flavor of Ice Cream Sandwich. <p class="image-container" style="text-align: center; "> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/21/lg-optimus-l7-leaks-for-boost-mobile-as-the-venice/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img alt="LG Optimus L7 leaks for Boost Mobile as the Venice" data-src-height="450" data-src-width="620" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/09/lg-venice.jpg" /></a></p><p> The merriment continues at <em>evleaks</em>, which just spilled another smartphone via Twitter. This time it's the LG Venice for Boost Mobile: a rebadged version of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/29/lg-optimus-l7-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Optimus L7</a> that just so happens to sport a handsome silvery backplate. This is the second version of the Optimus L7 to be geared for US shores, the first being the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/11/lg-splendor-now-available-at-us-cellular-for-80-after-rebate/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Splendor</a> for US Cellular. Absent any drastic changes, shoppers can rightfully expect to find an Android 4.0 smartphone that's paired with a single-core 1GHz CPU, a 4.3-inch WVGA display and a 5-megapixel camera that'll capture video at 720p. Unfortunately, pricing for the Venice remains up in the air, which makes it difficult to know whether it'll provide much of a value proposition within Boost's lineup. Likewise, the all-important release date is also a mystery, although with the carrier <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/19/zte-warp-sequent-now-available-on-boost-mobile-for-200/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">actively</a> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/08/22/boost-mobile-announces-samsung-galaxy-rush/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">refreshing</a> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/08/22/boost-mobile-galaxy-s-ii-4g/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">its fall</a> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/07/17/kyocera-hydro-hitting-boost-on-august-3rd-for-130-lets-you-get/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">lineup</a>, a near-term arrival is certainly within reason.</p>

This time around we're looking at the ZTE Warp Sequent, a fitting follow-up to last year's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/07/zte-warp-hands-on/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">ZTE Warp</a>. Packed to capacity with entry-level goodness, the Warp Sequent features a 4.3-inch qHD display, a 1.4GHz processor, a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, a 1.3-megapixel front shooter, 768MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage and Android 4.0. So, if you've got a serious hankering for an off-contract Android running last year's operating system, the ZTE Warp Sequent can be yours for $200.</p>

<p style="text-align: center;"> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/07/26/engadgets-smartphone-buyers-guide-summer-2012-edition/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img alt="Engadget's smartphone buyer's guide summer 2012 edition" data-src-height="450" data-src-width="600" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/07/summer-2012-smartphone-buyers-guide.jpg" style="margin:4px" /></a></p><p> Despite the sweltering heat waves, our spirits are high at Engadget, and for good reason: it's time for our summer edition of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/smartphonebuyersguide?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">smartphone buyer's guide</a>. Here, you'll find our top recommendations for the best smartphones across several US carriers, along with the best QWERTY and budget alternatives. In many ways, it's now easier than ever to find a world-class smartphone, but unless you've developed a strong brand preference, choosing one is likely more difficult than ever before. It's no secret that the HTC One X and Samsung Galaxy S III have firmly cemented themselves as the premier smartphones of the day, but if you're torn between the two, we'll reveal our preference in this latest installment.</p><p> Summertime also brought a bit of a shock, as Microsoft revealed that Windows Phone 8 apps <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/20/microsoft-unveils-windows-phone-7-8-for-legacy-devices/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">won't be compatible</a> with the current generation of Windows Phone hardware. For this reason, we've excluded all Windows Phone handsets from consideration in the latest buyer's guide. While the future of Microsoft's mobile platform looks incredibly bright, a purchase now would guarantee obsolescence in the short-term. Instead, all prospective Windows Phone purchasers must wait for the next generation of handsets to become available -- you'll regret it otherwise.</p><p> Naturally, there is no shortage of rumors surrounding the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/iphone5?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">next Apple iPhone</a>, and given the handset's current lack of LTE connectivity, the iPhone 4S is certainly showing its age. While cautious purchasers may choose to bide their time, the iPhone remains top-notch in many other respects, and its arrival at a number of prepaid carriers brought a breath of fresh air to an otherwise stagnant environment.</p><p> If you're curious to see how it all unfolded -- and we know you are -- join us after the break, where we round up the very best smartphones of the season.</p><p></p>

Thankfully, that's been proven wrong by <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/BoostMobile/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Boost Mobile</a>, which just launched the 9320's CDMA cousin, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/30/blackberry-curve-9310-9320-turns-up-at-fcc-fails-to-keep-a-lo/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Curve 9310</a>. The message-manic BlackBerry comes to Sprint's prepaid network with its BBM key intact as well as BlackBerry 7.1, a 3.2-megapixel camera and that all-important low price: at $100 contract-free, it's one of the cheapest ways to leap into smartphones in the US. To top it off, Boost is throwing in a very tantalizing BBM Unlimited plan. The deal offers unlimited calling, text messaging and (naturally) BBM; although it starts at $45 per month, it gradually dips down to a very reasonable $30 per month if owners pay their bills properly for six months. Both the Curve 9310 and its companion plan will be available July 10th, giving us time to find the needed spare change under our couch cushions.</p>

Earlier today, Smith Micro announced it's delivering its Visual Voicemail features to the prepaid-friendly carrier, with the upcoming Boost-branded <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/08/evo-design-4g-for-boost-mobile-hands-on/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">HTC EVO Design 4G</a> being the first slab to offer said tidbits. Smith Micro is also adding an optional service dubbed "Voicemail-to-Text," which -- for an extra $1.99 per month -- will essentially turn those vocal messages into words and send them to you via text message or email. With the launch of the "<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/22/virgin-and-boost-to-go-4g/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">four-gee</a>" waves in mind, we're certain you're enjoying all the incoming news of late.</p><p></p>

Surfing along the carrier's increasingly antiquated 4G WiMAX network, this handset's getting a new <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/21/htc-evo-design-4g-boost-mobile/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">berth on Boost Mobile</a> priced at an affordable $299 for pre-paid customers. Much like its girthier Android cousin the EVO V 4G, the physical construction and internal specifications of this device have remained unchanged. It's still packing a 4-inch 960 x 540 qHD display, single-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon S2, 1.3-megapixel front-facing / rear 5-megapixel cameras and 4GB of internal storage. So, for the price the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/08/virgin-mobile-usa-and-boost-take-wimax-live/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">prepaid carrier's</a> asking, it's not a bad deal.</p><p> The phone is still just as pleasant to hold in hand, owing to a soft touch plastic back that's broken up by a smooth piece of aluminum plating. Again, if you've seen its earlier incarnation, you know what you're getting into, but there is a distinct difference here -- a combo of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/13/htc-sense-3-6-preview/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Sense 3.6</a> and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Luckily for prepaid consumers, the phone's set to launch sometime this June with that software combo pre-loaded; a sweet perk given its place on the lower end of the consumer spectrum. Hit up the gallery below for a further peek at this re-badged handset, or <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/09/the-engadget-interview-sprint-product-execs-john-tudhope-and-da/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">head here</a> to see the phone in action.</p><p> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/evo-design-4g-hands-on/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">EVO Design 4G hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/evo-design-4g-hands-on/5011076?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/jrv10dsc03295_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/evo-design-4g-hands-on/5011066?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/jrv1dsc03283_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/evo-design-4g-hands-on/5011067?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/jrv2dsc03284_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/evo-design-4g-hands-on/5011068?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/jrv3dsc03285_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/evo-design-4g-hands-on/5011069?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/jrv4dsc03286_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></p><p> <em>Myriam Joire contributed to this report.</em></p>

The early Virgin mix includes retreads of two Sprint data-only devices -- a Broadband2Go-badged version of the Sierra Wireless <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/18/sprint-announces-overdrive-pro-3g-4g-by-sierra-wireless-avail/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Overdrive Pro</a> 3G/4G hotspot and a matching version of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/25/franklin-wireless-intros-u600-wimax-modem-r526-and-r536-mobile/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Franklin U600</a> previously seen at Clear. Virgin's real star, however, is the HTC EVO V 4G: though it's ultimately the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/21/sprint-discontinues-htc-evo-3d/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">EVO 3D</a> with a slightly more 2D name, it's shipping with Android 4.0 from the start and has HTC's Frankenstein-like <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/13/htc-sense-3-6-preview/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Sense 3.6</a> rather than the 4.0 of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/htc+one?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">One series</a>. The network upgrade and all three new devices swing into action on May 31, and while your $35 minimum monthly plan will stay in effect even with unlimited on-device 4G, you'll need to spend $300 (contract-free) to take home an EVO V 4G, $150 on the Overdrive Pro or $100 on the U600 stick.</p><p> Boost Mobile is also going the Sprint rebadge route through the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/08/htc-evo-design-4g-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">HTC EVO Design 4G</a>. As with its bigger brother over at Virgin, the single-core EVO Design 4G is identical in hardware to its Sprint equivalent but slaps Android 4.0 and Sense 3.6 on top to keep the software fresh. The update does mark the first time a Boost phone gets Visual Voicemail, so you can feel slightly less guilty when you miss a call. HTC's phone will oddly cost the same $300 off-contract as the more advanced EVO V 4G, although Boost is likely counting on customers sticking around long enough for an all-inclusive unlimited plan to drop to $40 per month and make it worthwhile.</p><p> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/boost-mobile-and-virgin-mobile-4g-devices/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile 4G devices</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/boost-mobile-and-virgin-mobile-4g-devices/5009615?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/htc-evo-v-4g-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/boost-mobile-and-virgin-mobile-4g-devices/5009614?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/htc-evo-design-4g-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/boost-mobile-and-virgin-mobile-4g-devices/5009613?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/franklin-u600-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/boost-mobile-and-virgin-mobile-4g-devices/5009616?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/overdrive-pro-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></p>

It's reporting that the HTC Evo Design 4G will be landing on the prepay network before the end of this quarter. It was running Gingerbread when we first got our <a _mce_href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/08/htc-evo-design-4g-review/" href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/08/htc-evo-design-4g-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">hands on it</a>, but will apparently be landing with Ice Cream Sandwich squeezed into its 1.2GHz single-core configuration. It's been a while since a new smartphone <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/13/lg-marquee-comes-to-boost-mobile-on-january-23rd-for-279/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">was offered up</a> to the Boost faithful, so when the EVO 4G turns up it should be king of the pile, though we're not sure if it'll be asking an equally regal ransom when it does so.</p>
