AT&amp;T and T-Mobile customers have a little bit to wait yet before they can clamp down on a <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/tag/9700/">9700</a> of their own, but Rogers -- which has a history of being in the VIP section for new BlackBerry launches -- has already brought the new Bold flavor to market. RIM's latest high-end full QWERTY device will run you CAD $299.99 (about $281) on a three-year contract, scaling all the way up to CAD $599.99 (about $563) commitment-free -- so needless to say, you have to <em>really</em> want this thing. The original Bold's running CAD $99.99 on contract, so depending on what you're looking for (read: you're not a rabid early adopter like we are), that could come out the better deal.<br />

It looks like Canada's Rogers will be among the first carriers in the world to offer LG's first Android device, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/GW620/">GW620</a> Eve -- and for North Americans, this is particularly notable since it means there's a version of the device at retail that'll theoretically work on Bell, Telus, and AT&amp;T in addition to Rogers proper. We have no indication that AT&amp;T's about to actually pull the trigger on this thing (or on <em>any</em> Android device for that matter), though, so if you're into the 5 megapixel AF cam, full QWERTY slide, and 7.2Mbps HSDPA capability, we'd recommend putting your unlockin' pants on. For Rogers customers, we're not seeing a release date just yet, but it looks like you'll be paying a downright reasonable CAD $49.99 (about $47) on a three-year deal when it launches.<br />

You know what's screwed up? A CAD $99.99 (about $95) BlackBerry Curve <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/tag/8520/">8520</a> -- you know, the cheap one -- being sold on the same carrier at the same time as CAD $79.99 (about $76) <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/tag/htc,dream">Dreams</a> and <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/tag/htc,magic">Magics</a>. Doesn't that seem a little out of whack? Not to mention the fact that Rogers is looking for three-year contracts all around here, and with all due respect to the 8520, the thought of committing to it for anything even close to the next 36 months sends shivers down our spines. The latest BlackBerry (and the first with a touchpad in place of a trackball) is yet to go live on Rogers' site, but apparently you can go ahead and pick one up this very second if you're so inclined -- just be sure to bring cash and your best contract signin' pen.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/rim/" rel="tag">RIM</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/rogers-wireless/" rel="tag">Rogers Wireless</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/edge/" rel="tag">EDGE</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/10/09/blackberry-curve-8520-now-on-rogers/">BlackBerry Curve 8520 now on Rogers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com">Engadget Mobile</a> on Fri, 09 Oct 2009 05:57:00 EST. Rogers is losing its iPhone exclusivity in Canada next month, if a new report by<em> The Globe and Mail</em> is to be believed. Telus and Bell -- traditionally CDMA-bound -- have been prepping GSM networks of their own in a joint effort, and it sounds like they'll be getting this off on the right foot with the iPhone 3GS as a launch device. Nothing's official just yet, but those in the know expect an announcement tomorrow or Wednesday. Rogers isn't the best-loved carrier in Canada, and a bit of choice never hurt anybody, so this seems like pretty good news all-round for our friendly northern neighbors<br />

Good news for Canadians who can't seem to get a decent internet plan for home. <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Rogers/">Rogers</a> has unveiled a 3G station for residential use dubbed the Rocket Hub, and with it a number of jet propulsion-related puns that we'll be taking painstaking measures to avoid. It boasts 7.2Mbps HSPA, WiFi and ethernet out, and voice calls over UMTS. Makes sense since it's riding an <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/24/ericssons-w3x-series-hspa-mobile-broadband-routers-dont-slouch/">Ericsson W3x core</a>. Upfront cost of hardware hasn't been disclosed yet, but plans start at $35 Canadian. Launch date (okay, we couldn't resist) is sometime later this month.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/rogers-wireless/" rel="tag">Rogers Wireless</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/hsdpa/" rel="tag">HSDPA</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/umts/" rel="tag">UMTS</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/hsupa-1/" rel="tag">HSUPA</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/10/03/rogers-rocket-hub-disguises-3g-data-and-voice-as-mild-mannered/">Rogers' Rocket Hub disguises 3G data and voice as mild-mannered home modem </a> originally appeared on <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com">Engadget Mobile</a> on Sat, 03 Oct 2009 07:10:00 EST. Residents of some of Canada's biggest cities are now sitting on near-LTE speeds thanks to <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/07/28/rogers-wireless-begins-21mbps-hspa-rollout-a-first-in-north-am/">Rogers' continued rollout of 21Mbps HSPA+</a>, a technology it proudly boasts is "replacing 3.5G" and stands a fighting chance of offering real-life double-digit speeds. That's pretty amazing when you consider that a lot of people are still using 768kbps or 1.5Mbps DSL lines in their homes -- ten years ago, we doubt anyone would've predicted that practical wireless speeds would be running neck-and-neck with some of the fastest wireline broadband ISPs have to offer -- but we're certainly not complaining. In addition to Toronto, service is now available in Calgary, Vancouver, Ottawa, and Montreal, with a new modem cutely named HSPA+ Rocket coming to take advantage of those speeds on the 28th of the month. Interested parties can preorder now, though: $199.99 or $74.99 on a two-year data contract.<br />

Hey, T-Mobile, allow us to hit you up with some knowledge, if you would. Take a quick gander up north of the border, where our dear friends on Rogers have reduced both the <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/tag/Dream/">Dream</a> (your <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/tag/G1/">G1</a>) and the <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/tag/Magic/">Magic</a> (your <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/tag/myTouch3G/">myTouch 3G</a>) to just $79.99 on a three-year deal -- and that's in Canadian dollars, which works out to $74 in greenbacks. Granted, yes, we understand that a three-year deal is a full 12 months longer than an old-fashioned American two-year deal, but still, you're going to have to forgive us if we start working on our visa applications. Coincidentally, we know there's <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/07/02/htc-hero-hits-fcc-with-us-3g/">a version of the Hero kicking around that'd work swimmingly on Rogers</a>; we don't mean to start any rumors, but... oh heck, who are we kidding, of <em>course</em> we're trying to start rumors.<br />

<div align="left">Well, kids, we don't know if this is a typo, a Freudian slip, or both (or neither), but according to this handy graphic on Rogers' website the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/05/apple-phasing-out-iphone-3g-in-favor-of-8gb-3gs/">rumored 8GB iPhone 3GS</a> exists -- if not for sale, at least for comparison. Keen readers of charts will note that the price listed for the 3GS still starts with the 16GB model, and if you scroll through to the ordering page there is no 8GB 3GS option listed. So, what do you think? Do we have a promising development here, or a simple case of a misplaced check mark? Feel free to sound off in the comments.<br /></div>

It shouldn't come as a surprise that leaked lineup documents suggest Rogers has an eye on Nokia's <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/tag/Surge/">Surge</a>; Rogers has a pretty good relationship with Nokia, after all, and the Surge is the kind of device that pretty much any text-savvy carrier with an established rapport with Nokia would be looking into. What might be more of a surprise is that they'll apparently be launching it as the 6790 Surge -- Nokia's global designation for the device -- as opposed to the simpler "Surge" preferred by AT&amp;T. After AT&amp;T's move we'd taken 6790 as more of a European branding, but hey, props to Rogers for keeping it real and letting Nokia roll with its traditional scheme. No word on availability yet, but we'll allegedly be looking at CAD $89.99 (about $83) on a new three-year agreement when it finally does launch.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/nokia/" rel="tag">Nokia</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/rogers-wireless/" rel="tag">Rogers Wireless</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/symbian/" rel="tag">Symbian</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/edge/" rel="tag">EDGE</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/hsdpa/" rel="tag">HSDPA</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/umts/" rel="tag">UMTS</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/08/07/rogers-signs-up-for-the-nokia-surge/">Rogers signs up for the Nokia Surge?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com">Engadget Mobile</a> on Fri, 07 Aug 2009 20:11:00 EST. As brilliant as the <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/06/08/iphone-3gs-announced/">$99 subsidized iPhone 3G strategy</a> might seem on paper, the fact remains that the 3G now is a 13 month-old device -- the better part of a lifetime by smartphone standards -- and it stands to reason that Apple wouldn't be interested in consuming manufacturing capacity indefinitely with outdated equipment, especially since that game plan cuts into economies of scale on the 3GS' chipset and superior camera hardware. The solution? Let iPhone 3G inventory cool down for a few months -- $99 is a nice, round number after all that's plenty low enough to move units -- and when the carnage is over, phase it out in favor of a new lower-cost 3GS. That's sure to leave new 3G owners fuming, but newly leaked screens out of Rogers seem to indicate that's exactly how this is likely going to go down: add a black 8GB 3GS into the mix that can serve as the company's new entry-level device below the 3GS in two colors, likely for $100 less than the 16GB model. There's no word on when this might happen, but Apple's likely to host its usual Fall event to roll out new iPods (<a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/tablet,apple">and more?</a>), so this could serve as an interesting -- if not ultimately predictable -- footnote.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/rogers-wireless/" rel="tag">Rogers Wireless</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/edge/" rel="tag">EDGE</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/hsdpa/" rel="tag">HSDPA</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/umts/" rel="tag">UMTS</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/apple/" rel="tag">Apple</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/08/05/apple-phasing-out-iphone-3g-in-favor-of-8gb-3gs/">Apple phasing out iPhone 3G in favor of 8GB 3GS?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com">Engadget Mobile</a> on Wed, 05 Aug 2009 13:41:00 EST. According to Rogers, it'll begin to "progressively increase" download speeds starting in August, with the Greater Toronto Area expectedly first on deck to get a taste of all that bandwidth -- although Rogers does say that it'll "expand quickly over the coming months" in other cities across Canada and eventually cover the entire country. Those south of the border shouldn't feel too glum about the situation however, as <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/05/27/so-long-hspa-atandt-likely-moving-straight-from-7-2mbps-to-lt/">last we had heard</a>, AT&amp;T was "likely" to bypass HSPA+ altogether and move straight from 7.2Mbps to LTE and the ludicrous speeds it promises.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/rogers-wireless/" rel="tag">Rogers Wireless</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/hsdpa/" rel="tag">HSDPA</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/misc/" rel="tag">Misc</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/hsupa-1/" rel="tag">HSUPA</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/07/28/rogers-wireless-begins-21mbps-hspa-rollout-a-first-in-north-am/">Rogers Wireless begins 21Mbps HSPA+ rollout, a first in North America</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com">Engadget Mobile</a> on Tue, 28 Jul 2009 11:38:00 EST. It's got integrated GPS, supports up to 7.2Mbps down, and can roam globally on 2G and 3G networks; add in that wild red and white paintjob, and you've got a winner on your hands -- especially when you consider that it's free on a three-year contract.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://mobilesyrup.com/2009/07/23/rogers-releases-sony-ericsson-md400g-usb-modem/">MobileSyrup</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/sony-ericsson/" rel="tag">Sony Ericsson</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/rogers-wireless/" rel="tag">Rogers Wireless</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/edge/" rel="tag">EDGE</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/hsdpa/" rel="tag">HSDPA</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/umts/" rel="tag">UMTS</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/hsupa-1/" rel="tag">HSUPA</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/07/24/sony-ericsson-brings-md400g-usb-data-card-to-rogers/">Sony Ericsson brings MD400G USB data card to Rogers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com">Engadget Mobile</a> on Fri, 24 Jul 2009 15:09:00 EST. There's no doubt that Samsung's <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/tag/omnia+ii/">Omnia II</a> is one of the most coveted Windows Mobile smartphones out at the moment -- we mean, who can really resist a 3.7-inch AMOLED touchscreen, 7.2Mbps HSPA, a 5 megapixel camera and 720 x 480 movie recording? For Americans, however, there seemed to be <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/06/15/samsung-omnia-ii-now-official-amoled-touchscreen-with-touchwiz/">little hope</a> that GSM fans would ever see a version catering specifically to their needs (read: dual-band 850 / 1,900MHz 3G "needs")... until now. On this fine Friday, the cool cats over at the FCC have shown that there actually is a GT-i8000 headed to America with support for AT&amp;T 3G bands, though obviously little else is known about when it'll make its expected splash. Better hurry, Samsung -- the competition's <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/tag/android">heating up</a> over here.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.slashgear.com/samsung-omnia-ii-gt-i8000-clears-fcc-with-att-bands-plus-video-demo-2450259/">Slashgear</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/samsung/" rel="tag">Samsung</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/atandt/" rel="tag">ATT</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/rogers-wireless/" rel="tag">Rogers Wireless</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/windows-mobile/" rel="tag">Windows Mobile</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/edge/" rel="tag">EDGE</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/hsdpa/" rel="tag">HSDPA</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/07/24/samsungs-winmo-powered-omnia-ii-gt-i8000-clears-fcc-eyes-atand/">Samsung's WinMo-powered Omnia II (GT-i8000) clears FCC, eyes AT&amp;T</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com">Engadget Mobile</a> on Fri, 24 Jul 2009 10:32:00 EST. You haven't forgotten about that BlackBerry <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Storm2/">Storm 2</a>, have you? <em>The Boy Genius Report</em> is claiming it's gotten device specs for RIM's touchscreen-centric maven, also reportedly called the 9550, and while not surprising (and not confirmed), according to his source the CDMA device will be sporting 802.11b/g (which we <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/05/14/blackberry-storm-2-gets-pictured-early/"> already sort of knew</a>), a 3.2 megapixel camera, 360 x 480 capacitive touchscreen, and <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/07/07/blackberry-os-5-0-previewed-on-the-storm/">BlackBerry OS 5.0</a>. If that's not enough, the site's also saying a GSM version of the original, with 3G in tow, does exist as the 9520 and is possibly on track for release soon on AT&amp;T and Rogers. All nice fodder for dreams, but we're not getting our hopes up until something more official rears its <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/05/27/rim-ceo-surepress-is-here-to-stay/">SurePress</a>-laden head.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/rim/" rel="tag">RIM</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/atandt/" rel="tag">ATT</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/verizon-wireless/" rel="tag">Verizon Wireless</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/rogers-wireless/" rel="tag">Rogers Wireless</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/cdma/" rel="tag">CDMA</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/07/12/blackberry-storm-2-specd-3g-equipped-original-en-route-to-atandt/">BlackBerry Storm 2 spec'd, 3G-equipped original en route to AT&amp;T?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com">Engadget Mobile</a> on Sun, 12 Jul 2009 10:41:00 EST. If you're ready, willing, and able to sign up for a new three-year agreement on Rogers, HTC's two inaugural Android sets just got a good deal cheaper for you. <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/02/android-goes-canadian-rogers-launches-htc-magic-and-dream/">Originally priced at $149.99 on contract</a>, both phones are now down to $99.99 -- a stellar deal, we think, considering you're getting 7.2Mbps HSDPA, capacitive touch, 3.2 megapixel autofocus cameras with video capture, and HTC-customized Android ROMs. Maybe Rogers is discounting so quickly because they figure the phones aren't quite as appealing in light of the recent <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/tag/Hero/">Hero</a> announcement -- or, more intriguingly, maybe they're prepping for an actual Hero launch of their own now that we know <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/07/02/htc-hero-hits-fcc-with-us-3g/">there's an 850 / 1900 3G version in the mix</a>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2009/07/03/rogers-drops-the-price-of-the-htc-dream-and-magic-to-9999/">Boy Genius Report</a>]<br /><br /><a href="http://www.rogers.com/web/Rogers.portal?_nfpb=true&amp;_windowLabel=Wireless_BuyFlow_Portlet_Definition&amp;Wireless_BuyFlow_Portlet_Definition_actionOverride=%2Fportlets%2Fconsumer%2Fwireless%2FphoneBuyflow%2FshowPage_ForPhone&amp;Wireless_BuyFlow_Portlet_DefinitionproductId_Detailed=DREAMBLKR&amp;_pageLabel=WRLS_BuyFlow">Read</a> - Dream (Black)<br /><a href="http://www.rogers.com/web/Rogers.portal?_nfpb=true&amp;_windowLabel=Wireless_BuyFlow_Portlet_Definition&amp;Wireless_BuyFlow_Portlet_Definition_actionOverride=%2Fportlets%2Fconsumer%2Fwireless%2FphoneBuyflow%2FshowPage_ForPhone&amp;Wireless_BuyFlow_Portlet_DefinitionproductId_Detailed=DREAMWHTR&amp;_pageLabel=WRLS_BuyFlow">Read</a> - Dream (White)<br /><a href="http://www.rogers.com/web/Rogers.portal?_nfpb=true&amp;_windowLabel=Wireless_BuyFlow_Portlet_Definition&amp;Wireless_BuyFlow_Portlet_Definition_actionOverride=%2Fportlets%2Fconsumer%2Fwireless%2FphoneBuyflow%2FshowPage_ForPhone&amp;Wireless_BuyFlow_Portlet_DefinitionproductId_Detailed=MAGICBLKR&amp;_pageLabel=WRLS_BuyFlow">Read</a> - Magic<p>Filed under: <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/htc/" rel="tag">HTC</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/rogers-wireless/" rel="tag">Rogers Wireless</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/edge/" rel="tag">EDGE</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/hsdpa/" rel="tag">HSDPA</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/umts/" rel="tag">UMTS</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/android/" rel="tag">Android</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/07/03/rogers-magic-and-dream-now-yours-for-99-99/">Rogers Magic and Dream now yours for $99.99</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com">Engadget Mobile</a> on Fri, 03 Jul 2009 11:23:00 EST. In North America, Rogers has a reputation for getting the most cool GSM handsets the quickest (that's not the only reputation it has, but we won't go there right this second) -- but this is one case where T-Mobile USA beat 'em to the punch by a mile. The Canadian carrier is adding the Nokia <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/tag/7510/">7510</a> to its <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/tag/TalkSpot/">TalkSpot</a>-compatible lineup, meaning you'll be able to offload calls to WiFi when you're within range of a hotspot and transfer seamlessly to and from GSM. There's no 3G, but the colorful flip <em>does</em> come with changeable faceplates, a concealed secondary display, 2 megapixel camera with flash, and microSD expansion. Look for it for CAD $49.99 (about $43) on a three-year deal.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.unwiredview.com/2009/06/29/uma-enabled-nokia-7510-launched-by-rogers/">Unwired View</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/nokia/" rel="tag">Nokia</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/rogers-wireless/" rel="tag">Rogers Wireless</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/edge/" rel="tag">EDGE</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/06/30/nokia-7510-comes-to-rogers-talkspot-service/">Nokia 7510 comes to Rogers' TalkSpot service</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com">Engadget Mobile</a> on Tue, 30 Jun 2009 13:45:00 EST. Better late than never, right? Some sixteen excruciating months after its <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2008/02/10/sony-ericssons-xperia-x1-qwerty-with-windows-mobile-and-hsupa/">announcement</a>, Sony Ericsson's WinMo superphone -- the mighty XPERIA <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/tag/X1/">X1</a> -- has finally come to Rogers as expected. Considering that the X1 is still very much one of the world's premier smartphones (on paper, anyhow), the on-contract promotional price of CAD $249.99 after discounts seems reasonable enough -- of course, whether you feel the same way after three years of mobile marriage is another story altogether. Staying within the Sony Ericsson realm, the <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/tag/C510/">C510</a> has also launched, an attractive candybar with 7.2Mbps / 2Mbps HSPA and a 3.2 megapixel cam; it's all yours for CAD $79.99 on contract.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.howardchui.com/2009/06/23/x1-and-c510-now-available-from-rogers/">Howard Chui</a>]<br /><br /><a href="http://www.rogers.com/web/Rogers.portal?_nfpb=true&amp;_windowLabel=Wireless_BuyFlow_Portlet_Definition&amp;Wireless_BuyFlow_Portlet_Definition_actionOverride=%2Fportlets%2Fconsumer%2Fwireless%2FphoneBuyflow%2FshowPage_ForPhone&amp;Wireless_BuyFlow_Portlet_DefinitionproductId_Detailed=X1BLKREN&amp;_pageLabel=WRLS_BuyFlow">Read</a> - X1<br /><a href="http://www.rogers.com/web/Rogers.portal?_nfpb=true&amp;_windowLabel=Wireless_BuyFlow_Portlet_Definition&amp;Wireless_BuyFlow_Portlet_Definition_actionOverride=%2Fportlets%2Fconsumer%2Fwireless%2FphoneBuyflow%2FshowPage_ForPhone&amp;Wireless_BuyFlow_Portlet_DefinitionproductId_Detailed=C510ABLKR&amp;_pageLabel=WRLS_BuyFlow">Read</a> - C510<p>Filed under: <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/sony-ericsson/" rel="tag">Sony Ericsson</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/rogers-wireless/" rel="tag">Rogers Wireless</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/windows-mobile/" rel="tag">Windows Mobile</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/edge/" rel="tag">EDGE</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/hsdpa/" rel="tag">HSDPA</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/umts/" rel="tag">UMTS</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/hsupa-1/" rel="tag">HSUPA</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/06/24/sony-ericsson-x1-and-c510-launch-on-rogers/">Sony Ericsson X1 and C510 launch on Rogers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com">Engadget Mobile</a> on Wed, 24 Jun 2009 13:47:00 EST. Hey, AT&amp;T, Rogers stole your extended subsidy idea, so why not return the favor and copy some of this when you roll out iPhone tethering later this year? Canada's GSM giant is charging precisely nil for the pleasure of connecting your iPhone to a computer and using it as a modem, instead merely deducting bytes from your data bucket just as though you were consuming them on the iPhone itself -- as long as you have at least 1GB of data in your plan, otherwise tethering's not available. That works especially well in concert with those who have Rogers' sweet <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2008/07/09/rogers-caves-on-iphone-3g-plans-offers-up-6gb-for-30-a-month/">6GB-for-$30 data add-on</a>, but otherwise, many users (especially those with meager 1GB accounts) will have to be careful not to overrun their monthly limits. At any rate, the takeaway here is that if AT&amp;T comes out with a $50-plus tethering add-on with a 5GB bucket at this point, there'll be riots, bloodied bodies, overturned cars, the whole nine yards.<br /><br />[Thanks, Rod]<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> <a href="http://www.boygeniusreport.com">Michael Bettiol</a> points out that Rogers is ominously saying this pricing structure is good through December 31st, so it's anyone's guess what happens after that. Odds are Rogers is giving itself an out in case data usage is totally off the chain.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/rogers-wireless/" rel="tag">Rogers Wireless</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/apple/" rel="tag">Apple</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/os-x/" rel="tag">iPhone OS</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/06/19/psa-tethering-your-iphone-on-rogers-doesnt-cost-extra/">PSA: tethering your iPhone on Rogers doesn't cost extra</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com">Engadget Mobile</a> on Fri, 19 Jun 2009 19:31:00 EST. Rogers must know a good thing when it sees it, because it's essentially copied <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/06/17/atandt-relents-a-little-lets-iphone-3g-customers-with-upcoming-up/">AT&amp;T's modified plans</a> for providing deeper subsidies to more customers looking to upgrade to an <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/tag/iPhone3GS/">iPhone 3G S</a> in the next few weeks. The details are just a little bit different though: with Rogers, the new deal is that anyone who bought an iPhone 3G between July 11 and September 30 of 2008 -- and has averaged CAD $100 or more a month on their bill -- will be able to nab the 16GB or 32GB for $199 and $299, respectively, on a three-year contract. Buyers between July 11 and December 31 of last year or who didn't manage to average $100 a month will get the less heavily-discounted prices of $449 and $549, while any customer will be able to waltz in and spend $699 or $799, a princely sum indeed.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/rogers-wireless/" rel="tag">Rogers Wireless</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/apple/" rel="tag">Apple</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/06/19/rogers-wants-some-of-that-atandt-mojo-rolls-out-steeper-iphone-3g/">Rogers wants some of that AT&amp;T mojo, rolls out steeper iPhone 3G S discounts for current customers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com">Engadget Mobile</a> on Fri, 19 Jun 2009 08:27:00 EST. We figure that the Sony Ericsson <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/tag/X1/">X1</a> is destined for Rogers any day now -- just around the same time that we suspect the <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/tag/X2/">X2</a> will be announced, ironically -- and now we're starting to get an idea on pricing. A tipster writes in to tell us that this CAD $499.99 you're seeing here is for an upgrade customer with no data plan, which would be crazy high for a new lad coming in off the street and signing up for a three-year deal, we hope, but it gives us a good picture of what current customers might have to gear up for. Excessive, perhaps -- but then again, some of us will go to the ends of the Earth for WVGA.<br /><br />[Thanks, cell143]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/sony-ericsson/" rel="tag">Sony Ericsson</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/rogers-wireless/" rel="tag">Rogers Wireless</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/windows-mobile/" rel="tag">Windows Mobile</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/edge/" rel="tag">EDGE</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/hsdpa/" rel="tag">HSDPA</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/umts/" rel="tag">UMTS</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/06/16/sony-ericsson-x1-upgrade-pricing-on-rogers-499-99/">Sony Ericsson X1 upgrade pricing on Rogers: $499.99?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com">Engadget Mobile</a> on Tue, 16 Jun 2009 18:26:00 EST. It'd take a really acutely developed talent for shutting oneself off from news to not know how much the <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/tag/iPhone3GS/">iPhone 3G S</a> is going to run on AT&amp;T -- $199 and $299 for the 16GB and 32GB models on contract, just in case you've forgotten -- but what about some of the other countries that are destined to be launching the new model alongside the US on the same day? Up north, we've been told by a company spokesman that Apple partner Rogers will be pricing them at CAD $199 and $299 on three-year contracts, which works out to about $177 and $266; the old 3G, meanwhile, will be sold for (you guessed it) CAD $99. Tethering will be available and there will be no-contract pricing, but details haven't yet been announced there. Meanwhile, O2 over in the UK has dropped details on its site that put both the 3G S 16GB and 32GB as cheap as free if you sign up for a rich-enough two-year deal. Must be nice, eh?<br /><br />[Thanks to everyone who sent these in]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/o2/" rel="tag">O2</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/rogers-wireless/" rel="tag">Rogers Wireless</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/edge/" rel="tag">EDGE</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/hsdpa/" rel="tag">HSDPA</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/umts/" rel="tag">UMTS</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/apple/" rel="tag">Apple</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/os-x/" rel="tag">iPhone OS</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/06/09/iphone-3g-s-plans-revealed-on-rogers-o2/">iPhone 3G S plans revealed on Rogers, O2</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com">Engadget Mobile</a> on Tue, 09 Jun 2009 11:22:00 EST. A dude with access to the ROM Rogers is using on its just-launched <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/tag/Dream/">Dream</a> and <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/tag/Magic/">Magic</a> Android sets has posted a truly epic, comprehensive set screenshots on Flickr, showing off some of the features unique to these particular versions of the phones. It's a nice little journey into the heart of Canada's first Android sets -- unless you're jealous, in which case it's an emotionally draining nightmare.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.androidandme.com/2009/06/news/60-screens-from-rogers-htc-g1/">Android and Me</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/software/" rel="tag">Software</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/htc/" rel="tag">HTC</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/rogers-wireless/" rel="tag">Rogers Wireless</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/android/" rel="tag">Android</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/06/04/rogers-android-build-for-dream-and-magic-deconstructed-shot-by/">Rogers' Android build for Dream and Magic deconstructed shot-by-shot</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com">Engadget Mobile</a> on Thu, 04 Jun 2009 08:57:00 EST. We'd say that Best Buy's phone pricing is never a set-in-stone indication of the price you'll pay direct from the carrier, but it's probably pretty safe to assume from these tags that everyone -- Rogers, Best Buy, Future Shop, you name it -- will be charging within a few bucks of CAD $149.99 ($135) for your choice of the <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/tag/Dream/">Dream</a> or <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/tag/Magic/">Magic</a> when the Android sets launch on June 2. That's not too terribly bruising on the pocketbook, but that's going to be on a three-year contract with a minimum $45 voice / data plan; if you step down to a two-year deal, you jump all the way up to a whopping $449.99, and a contract-free purchase is going to set you back $599.99. Tell you what, Rogers: give us both the black <em>and</em> the white Dream for $450 on a two-year and you've got yourselves a deal. Sound good?<p>Filed under: <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/htc/" rel="tag">HTC</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/rogers-wireless/" rel="tag">Rogers Wireless</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/edge/" rel="tag">EDGE</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/hsdpa/" rel="tag">HSDPA</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/umts/" rel="tag">UMTS</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/android/" rel="tag">Android</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/05/29/rogers-htc-dream-and-magic-coming-in-at-149-through-best-buy/">Rogers' HTC Dream and Magic coming in at $149 through Best Buy?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com">Engadget Mobile</a> on Fri, 29 May 2009 10:06:00 EST. Remember how we found out that there's <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/05/15/exchange-enabled-htc-magic-explained-its-not-a-with-google-p/">a difference</a> between the Google-branded Android firmware and its HTC-modified equivalent, and the latter isn't allowed to feature the silkscreened Google logo? The HTC version is way cooler on account of its Exchange ActiveSync support and the much-improved camera app; the only downside is that you can't flaunt that logo on the case, which -- let's be honest -- is totally meaningless to an end user (unless you're some raving Google fanboy / fangirl, and in that case, no amount of awesome customization is going to sway you). Anyhow, it's up to individual carriers to decide which versions of the devices they wish to launch, and Rogers customers will be excited to know that they're getting the logo-free HTC builds. That makes Canadian Dreams and Magics a whole hell of a lot more useful to business users than the <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/tag/g1">G1s</a> down in the States, and going forward, this is an issue T-Mobile probably wants to think about -- as long as the base Android code doesn't license ActiveSync, anyway.<br /> <span style="font-family: 'Lucida Grande'; font-size: 11px; white-space: pre;" class="Apple-style-span"><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/rogers-htc-dream-and-magic-arent-google-phones-have-exchange-support/">Rogers' HTC Dream and Magic aren't "Google phones," have Exchange support</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/rogers-htc-dream-and-magic-arent-google-phones-have-exchange-support/2032110/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2009/05/rogers_dreammail_may23200900_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/rogers-htc-dream-and-magic-arent-google-phones-have-exchange-support/2032111/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2009/05/rogers_dreammail_may23200901_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/rogers-htc-dream-and-magic-arent-google-phones-have-exchange-support/2032112/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2009/05/rogers_dreammail_may23200902_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/rogers-htc-dream-and-magic-arent-google-phones-have-exchange-support/2032113/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2009/05/rogers_dreammail_may23200904_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/rogers-htc-dream-and-magic-arent-google-phones-have-exchange-support/2032114/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2009/05/rogers_dreammail_may23200905_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></span><p>Filed under: <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/software/" rel="tag">Software</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/htc/" rel="tag">HTC</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/rogers-wireless/" rel="tag">Rogers Wireless</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/android/" rel="tag">Android</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/05/23/rogers-htc-dream-and-magic-arent-google-phones-have-exchang/">Rogers' HTC Dream and Magic aren't "Google phones," have Exchange support</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com">Engadget Mobile</a> on Sat, 23 May 2009 23:24:00 EST. <div align="left">So, Friday rolls around complete with cryptic "you'll get something awesome tomorrow" message from Rogers. Of course we bite, and something awesome <em>did</em> show just after lunch today. Rogers <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/05/22/rogers-wireless-relolution-coming-tomorrow/">first Android sets</a> launch on the June 2 with both HTC's <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/tag/Dream/">Dream</a> and <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/tag/Magic/">Magic</a> taking center stage to usher in the OS' proper christening north of the border. Bundled in the safety of the fireproof (yes, fireproof) safe are a charger, USB cable, headset, and the HTC Dream proper. While T-Mobile's patrons south of the border wait for version 1.5 to arrive, Rogers seems set to launch the devices with the latest build already loaded and good to go. We've not had more than a few hours with the phone, but we're loving it -- and the fact that we finally have an Android device for the US 3G flavor we love doesn't hurt either. Pricing is still firmly in the land of chalk drawings, but we've <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/05/22/rogers-to-sell-htc-dream-magic-for-199-99-on-contract/">heard tell</a> that $199 would be the price of admission -- and to be honest, that seems about what we'd expect. Follow on for a pile of pics of the un-safing of Rogers first steps in the land of Android.<br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/rogers-wireless-dream-un-safing-and-hands-on/">Rogers Wireless' Dream un-safing and hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/rogers-wireless-dream-un-safing-and-hands-on/2032074/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2009/05/rogers_dream_may23200900_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/rogers-wireless-dream-un-safing-and-hands-on/2032075/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2009/05/rogers_dream_may23200901_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/rogers-wireless-dream-un-safing-and-hands-on/2032080/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2009/05/rogers_dream_may23200902_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/rogers-wireless-dream-un-safing-and-hands-on/2032081/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2009/05/rogers_dream_may23200903_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/rogers-wireless-dream-un-safing-and-hands-on/2032082/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2009/05/rogers_dream_may23200904_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></div>

It's not on Rogers' site yet, but Sony Ericsson's Canadian site proudly proclaims the <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/tag/C905/">C905</a> as "Now available" -- and <em>MobileSyrup</em> backs up the claim with reports coming in from stores that the device is in stock and ready to go. For interested parties, this probably comes as no surprise seeing how the device has been <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/02/26/rogers-wireless-own-ur-magazine-outs-sony-ericsson-c905/">well-pimped by Rogers itself in UR Magazine</a>, bringing an 8.1 megapixel camera with xenon flash (always a plus), HSDPA, and GPS; a 2GB Memory Stick M2 comes as a pack-in, but odds are you'll want to upgrade closer to the device's max of 8GB if you intend to use that cam on a regular basis. There's a promo running that lets you nab it for CAD $249.99 (about $223) when purchased with a qualifying data plan, otherwise you'll be paying anywhere between CAD $299.99 up to $474.99 on a three-year contract to contract-free, respectively. Not the cheapest phone in the world, but if it can take the place of a basic point-and-shoot, you can look at it as a money-saving opportunity by combining two devices into one. Yeah, that's it.<br />

<div align="left">We just had this just drop in the mansion's mailbox courtesy of <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/tag/Rogers/">Rogers</a> Wireless. Apparently, the "relolution" is coming, and coming tomorrow. So like the dutiful souls we are, we've cancelled our appointments chez the <em>coiffeur</em> and are gonna just chill and wait. We're not exactly sure -- but we can certainly <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/05/22/rogers-to-sell-htc-dream-magic-for-199-99-on-contract/">guess</a> -- what may be arriving: one of two Android-powered sets set to bow on Rogers shortly, that's what (and given a choice, we'd happily take both). Now, will this come pre-packaged with some Cupcake Android 1.5 love, or are we gonna have to wait for the same slow rollout many of you are still dreaming about? More tomorrow, you can count on it. Oh, and Rogers? Please remember, before every "relolution" comes a spellcheck.<br /></div>

<div align="left">Canadians have had to wait quite a while to get their first official taste of Android, and even longer to know how much it'd cost, but it looks like that last detail has now finally been cleared up. According to <em>The Boy Genius Report</em>, Rogers will be asking the ever popular $199.99 for both the <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/tag/htcdream">HTC Dream</a> and <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/tag/htcmagic">HTC Magic</a> on a three-year contract when they <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/05/07/rogers-nabs-htc-dream-and-htc-magic-for-canadas-first-look-at-a/">launch on June 2nd</a>, or a hefty $649.99 off-contract. As Boy Genius points out, that's actually $100 more than the previously rumored off-contract price, which briefly spurred talk of a too-good-to-be-true $149.99 on-contract price.<br /></div>

Rogers is launching both the <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/tag/HTCDream/">HTC Dream</a> and the <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/tag/HTCMagic/">HTC Magic</a> in June of this year, snapping a "cold spell" of Android-lessness up north. The phones will Rogers exclusives in Canada, and it's one of the first spots we've heard of -- other than the fairly inevitable T-Mobile USA -- to be getting the elusive HTC Magic outside of Vodafone. Otherwise details are scarce, but Rogers promises more information soon, and has an online countdown for "the revolution" on June 2nd. How polite.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/htc/" rel="tag">HTC</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/rogers-wireless/" rel="tag">Rogers Wireless</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/android/" rel="tag">Android</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/05/07/rogers-nabs-htc-dream-and-htc-magic-for-canadas-first-look-at-a/">Rogers nabs HTC Dream and HTC Magic for Canada's first look at Android</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com">Engadget Mobile</a> on Thu, 07 May 2009 09:13:00 EST. Juicy XML metadata on LG's own site suggests that the <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/04/10/fcc-fridays/">GT500</a> -- which has yet to be officially announced for <em>any</em> market, though it was originally rumored for T-Mobile in Europe -- should be destined for Rogers at some point. That's pretty awesome news for Canadians of all shapes and sizes, considering the spec sheet has this one rolling deep (well, somewhat deep) with 3G, a 5 megapixel cam, and a WQVGA touchscreen. The only GT500 we've seen pass the FCC so far only received approval on EDGE bands, suggesting that Rogers will have to wait for a second version with North American 3G or forge ahead with EDGE alone; for everyone's sake, we're hoping they take the former option.<br />

It's not terribly often that Canada's Rogers Communications names a new chief exec -- hell, the last one was none other than the company's founder himself -- so needless to say, it's a pretty big deal that the company has concluded its search and sealed the deal. <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/03/16/rogers-close-to-appointing-new-ceo/">As expected</a>, Nadir Mohamed, who already has plenty of executive-level experience within the company serving as president and COO of its Communications Division, has been named to the CEO post, concluding a search both outside and inside the wireless giant for Ted Rogers' successor. Congrats, Nadir -- you've got big shoes to fill. [Warning: PDF link]<br />

<div align="left"><a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/tag/Fido/">Fido</a>, everybody's fave low cost GSM alternative in Canada -- and yes, we do know they are owned by Rogers but are different brands, we live here, we use them -- has ponied up an <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/02/03/is-atandt-prepping-to-launch-the-lg-neon/">LG Neon</a> of <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/03/06/lg-neon-hits-rogers-for-29-99/">its own</a> today. While Rogers offering rumbles in off-contract at $199, Fido has chosen $179 as its entry point and a 2 year stint costing you $50. Well done Fido for a handset that while lacking the extra 3G speed certainly makes up for it with a bit 'o style and hard to beat messaging functionality.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://mobilesyrup.com/2009/03/19/fido-launches-lg-neon/">MobileSyrup</a>]<br /></div>

You Yanks may bang on the Canucks for having to deal with those ridiculous <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2008/06/13/fido-and-rogers-both-nabbing-the-iphone-in-canada/">three-year contracts</a>, but every so often, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2008/05/02/8gb-nokia-n95-lands-on-rogers-sticks-tongue-out-at-atandt/">something goes down</a> in the Canadian mobile space that flat-out silences everyone beneath the border. Take this, for instance -- Nokia's <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2008/06/19/nokia-e71-review/">white E71</a>, which can only be scored over in Europe and now in Canada with support for native 3G bands, is finally on sale at Rogers Wireless. Oh sure, the only difference between this E71 and the <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2008/06/16/nokia-e71-confirmed-and-oh-so-slim/">black E71</a> is the colors involved, but we all know just how important that becomes when exclusivity is mixed in. As with any major company out there, Rogers Wireless has been <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2008/10/30/rogers-holds-hands-with-rbc-visa-for-mobile-phone-payment-pilo/">burning through</a> some cash in order to <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2008/12/11/rogers-toots-its-own-horn-and-7-2-mbps-network-update/">move its business</a> forward. So far as we can tell, however, it's acquired nothing substantial enough to warrant a $30 million hole in the overall acquisition budget. According to a poorly scribed email that was allegedly whisked out by a Rogers bigwig, the senior executive team just realized that it was $30 million in the red when it came to acquisitions, and coincidentally (or not), the price of select BlackBerry <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2008/12/09/rims-blackberry-curve-8900-has-arrived-on-rogers/">handsets</a> has <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2008/08/29/rogers-blackberry-kickstart-8220-gets-priced/">crept up</a> anywhere <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2008/08/16/rogers-regular-sized-blackberry-bold-gets-priced-399-99-on-a/">between</a> $25 and $50 on a 3-year contract. Granted, there's no confirmed link between the price hikes and the budget fiasco, but simple logic could bring us to believe that one is definitely in reaction to the other. Who knows -- maybe those <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2008/08/13/elephantine-blackberry-bold-promo-kit-arrives-for-rogers/">gigantic Bolds</a> were way, way more expensive that anyone assumed.<br /><br />[Image courtesy of <a href="http://www.blackberrynews.com/2008/08/13/exclusive-rogers-bold-launch-kit/">BlackBerry News</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/rim/" rel="tag">RIM</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/rogers-wireless/" rel="tag">Rogers Wireless</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/03/17/rogers-bumps-blackberry-prices-skyward-to-help-with-acquisition/">Rogers bumps BlackBerry prices skyward to help with "acquisition expenses"</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com">Engadget Mobile</a> on Tue, 17 Mar 2009 14:38:00 EST. Sounds like the lucky dude will be Nadir Mohamed, who's currently serving as president and COO of the company's Communications Group. Of course, no change of power would be complete without some behind-the-scenes drama, and in this case, it appears that there's at least some risk of a power struggle between Mohamed and Rogers' son Edward, so in an effort to nip that in the bud, it's rumored that Rogers will be given some sort of executive role at the company -- possibly in charge of acquisitions. Looks like this'll all be made public any day now, so we don't have long to wait. Anyone hoping this guy ushers in some change?<br />

What's this little gem? According to a confidential / potentially dubious <a href="http://engadgetmobile.com/tag/Rogers">Rogers</a> document landed by <em>CrackBerry</em>, it might be the <a href="http://engadgetmobile.com/tag/Blackberry">BlackBerry</a> 9900 -- or Pluto for you codename-loving types. Interestingly enough, this devices happens to look just like a Storm / Bold / 8900 Franken-Berry that we first <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2008/10/17/rim-adding-touchscreen-to-bold-like-qwerty-us-bound-hsdpa-storm/">caught wind of in October</a>, packing a full QWERTY and a <a href="http://engadgetmobile.com/tag/SurePress">SurePress</a> touchscreen like the one found in the Storm. We can't say for sure this is anything more than a clever Photoshop -- and that little "see page 99" bit on the bottom seems a bit too convenient of a number for our tastes. The trackball's noticeably absent from the four main navigation buttons, so we're already getting a little afraid of having to retain our BrickBreaker skills, but if any of you RIM insiders want to send over photos, video, or even the device itself before the "Late Q3 2009" presumed release timeframe, we'd be mighty glad to be proven wrong.<br /><br /><strong>Update: </strong>Like they say, when it rains, it pours. <em>CrackBerry </em>just posted another purported shot, but the possibility of this being real is highly unlikely. Apparently, the mic hole in the original pic is a clear sign that this is just a 'shopped 8800 -- and now in this latest "leaked shot," it's gone. So, chalk another one up for those crazy jokesters that have a little too much time on their hands, because it looks like this one was a bit too good to be true.<br /> <br /> [Thanks, <a href="http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2009/03/14/not-impressed/">Boy Genius</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/rim/" rel="tag">RIM</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/rogers-wireless/" rel="tag">Rogers Wireless</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/blackberry-os/" rel="tag">BlackBerry OS</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/03/14/blackberry-9900-pluto-spotted-in-leaked-rogers-documents/">BlackBerry 9900 "Pluto" spotted in leaked Rogers documents?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com">Engadget Mobile</a> on Sat, 14 Mar 2009 11:51:00 EST. As <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/02/26/lg-neon-coming-to-rogers-any-day-now-for-30-on-contract/">expected</a>, LG has graced our Canadian friends on Rogers with the Neon messaging phone for a decidedly easy-to-swallow $29.99 CAD (about $23) on contract after rebate. Your hard-earned $30 is gonna buy you a 2.4-inch QVGA touchscreen, 2 megapixel cam, media player with FM radio, microSD expansion, stereo Bluetooth, and a triband EDGE that'll be good enough to let you take the phone most of the way around the world -- as long as you're not expecting high-speed data anywhere. <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/02/03/is-atandt-prepping-to-launch-the-lg-neon/">Your turn, AT&amp;T</a>?<br />

<div align="left">So either Rogers' UR magazine is writing the <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/01/06/sony-ericsson-c905-gets-reviewed-all-8-1-megapixels-of-it/">Sony Ericsson C905</a> up, or, the multi-megapixel monster is on its way to the shops. Of course, a <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2008/12/25/leaked-rogers-slides-make-us-want-to-move-to-canada/">leaked slide show</a> from early December shows this set -- and piles of other greatness -- coming to Rogers this year, so I tend to agree with MobileSyrup that this one is legit. Pricing is rumored to be set at the $299 on a three-year deal and the release date is shakily pegged at Q2 2009. So hurry up already Rogers, we've seen it, the specs, taken pics, and now we're only left with the owning part.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://mobilesyrup.com/2009/02/25/rogers-advertising-sony-ericsson-c905/">MobileSyrup</a>]</div>

In the States, we're <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/02/03/is-atandt-prepping-to-launch-the-lg-neon/">hearing</a> that AT&amp;T is going to launch this bad boy as the <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/02/23/atandts-samsung-shift-and-lg-etna-put-through-their-paces/#readercomments">GT365 Etna</a> -- but just trade the "G" for a "T" and we've heard <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/02/09/leaked-fido-roadmap-shows-q1-sets-typos-errors/">similar rumblings</a> north of the border up on Fido. Now, it looks like the TE365 (which goes by the Neon moniker instead of the more bizarre Etna) might actually be dropping on Fido's corporate mommy Rogers, with a <em>HoFo</em> member reporting that we'll see it hit any day now for a mere $29.99 on a three-year deal. Considering that it's got a touchscreen, landscape QWERTY slide, and FM radio, that doesn't seem like a terribly bad deal -- but then again, are you really going to still want to be using this 36 months from now?<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://mobilesyrup.com/2009/02/26/rogers-lg-neon-te365-coming-in-at-2999/">MobileSyrup</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/lg/" rel="tag">LG</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/rogers-wireless/" rel="tag">Rogers Wireless</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/edge/" rel="tag">EDGE</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/hsdpa/" rel="tag">HSDPA</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/umts/" rel="tag">UMTS</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/02/26/lg-neon-coming-to-rogers-any-day-now-for-30-on-contract/">LG Neon coming to Rogers any day now for $30 on contract?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com">Engadget Mobile</a> on Thu, 26 Feb 2009 11:43:00 EST. Earlier this month, we saw pretty <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/02/18/rogers-ready-to-launch-lg-tu750-secret-and-tu330-globus/">solid evidence</a> that Rogers Wireless was gearing up to launch LG's TU330 Globus, and sure enough, said flip phone has just popped up for ordering on the Canadian carrier's website. The 3G-capable handset boasts a 1.3 megapixel camera, tri-band HSPA / quad-band GSM support, stereo Bluetooth, a microSD card slot, a 220 x 176 resolution display and video recording. And just think, it can all be yours for the higher than anticipated price of $29.99 on a 3-year contract. Take our advice here and just buy the thing outright for <strike>$79.99</strike> $179.99 -- the next three years of your life are worth more than fifty bones.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://mobilesyrup.com/2009/02/20/rogers-releases-the-lg-globus-tu330/">MobileSyrup</a>]<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> Looks like it's actually a slightly more hard-to-swallow $180 off contract, not $80. Thanks for the correction, Hayden!<p>Filed under: <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/lg/" rel="tag">LG</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/rogers-wireless/" rel="tag">Rogers Wireless</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/edge/" rel="tag">EDGE</a>, <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/category/hsdpa/" rel="tag">HSDPA</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/02/24/rogers-launches-lgs-tu330-globus-flip-phone-for-29-99-on-contr/">Rogers launches LG's TU330 Globus flip phone for $29.99 on contract</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com">Engadget Mobile</a> on Tue, 24 Feb 2009 17:02:00 EST.
