<div align="left">Well here's some welcome news, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/HTC/">HTC</a> released an update for the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/TouchPro/">Touch Pro</a> to help band-aid a few minor quibbles a couple days ago. Listed are fixes for auto-focus not auto-focusing at times, preview screen going wrong after taking a pic, TouchFLO 3D crashes, and "<span id="ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_lblDesc"><span lang="EN-US">The display of TouchFLO 3D sometimes may appear cracked." gets in there, too. This patch seems to be carrier agnostic and as such comes with warnings about wiping your provider's customizations, so it may be wise to wait til your local gets it out to you. Failure to back your set up, read the instructions carefully or to tap your heels three times while upgrading may make us point and laugh at you, so consider yourself warned.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://pocketnow.com/index.php?a=portal_detail&amp;t=news&amp;id=6913">pocketnow</a>]<br /></span></span></div>

2008 was, to say the least, a banner year for Windows Mobile hardware. Windows Mobile <em>software</em>... well, that's another story; we're still patiently waiting for the same thorough overhaul we'd hoped for <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2005/12/08/photon-the-next-version-of-windows-mobile/">years ago</a>, but in the meantime, manufacturers have done an absolutely stellar job of taking the platform to its limits and packaging it in ways that could make any smartphone envious. For this first time, VGA screens (and beyond) have come to market en masse, and -- unlike the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/8525">8525s</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/tilt">Tilts</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/mogul">Moguls</a>, and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/xv6800">XV6800s</a> of yesteryear, the latest batch of QWERTY sliders look like they've actually got a lick of intelligent industrial design in their DNA.<br /><br />So these puppies are similar, yes, but they're not the same -- so let's take a quick look at what separates the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/02/htc-touch-pro-now-available-for-purchase-online-as-promised/">Sprint Touch Pro</a>, from the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/24/htc-touch-pro-breaks-free-on-verizon/">Verizon Touch Pro</a>, from the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/fuze">AT&amp;T Fuze</a>, from the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/x1">Sony Ericsson X1</a> (whew!).<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/fuze-x1-and-a-couple-touch-pros-the-ultimate-winmo-smackdown/">Fuze, X1, and a couple Touch Pros: the ultimate WinMo smackdown</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/fuze-x1-and-a-couple-touch-pros-the-ultimate-winmo-smackdown/#1208234"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2008/12/fuze-x1-touch-pro-45_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/fuze-x1-and-a-couple-touch-pros-the-ultimate-winmo-smackdown/#1208245"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2008/12/fuze-x1-touch-pro-44_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/fuze-x1-and-a-couple-touch-pros-the-ultimate-winmo-smackdown/#1208244"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2008/12/fuze-x1-touch-pro-43_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/fuze-x1-and-a-couple-touch-pros-the-ultimate-winmo-smackdown/#1208233"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2008/12/fuze-x1-touch-pro-42_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/fuze-x1-and-a-couple-touch-pros-the-ultimate-winmo-smackdown/#1208258"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2008/12/fuze-x1-touch-pro-39_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/27/fuze-x1-and-a-couple-touch-pros-the-ultimate-winmo-smackdown/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Fuze, X1, and a couple Touch Pros: the ultimate WinMo smackdown</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/features/" rel="tag">Features</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/htc/" rel="tag">HTC</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/sony-ericsson/" rel="tag">Sony Ericsson</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/atandt/" rel="tag">ATT</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/sprint/" rel="tag">Sprint</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/verizon-wireless/" rel="tag">Verizon Wireless</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/windows-mobile/" rel="tag">Windows Mobile</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/edge/" rel="tag">EDGE</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/ev-do/" rel="tag">EV-DO</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/hsdpa/" rel="tag">HSDPA</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/umts/" rel="tag">UMTS</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cdma/" rel="tag">CDMA</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/27/fuze-x1-and-a-couple-touch-pros-the-ultimate-winmo-smackdown/">Fuze, X1, and a couple Touch Pros: the ultimate WinMo smackdown</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 27 Dec 2008 19:00:00 EST. We <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/24/sprint-launches-touch-pro-at-select-national-retailers-this-we/">heard last week</a> when Sprint launched the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/HTCTouchPro/">HTC Touch Pro</a> at "select national retailers" that the device would be available online on November 2nd. Well, it's November 2nd, and they've kept their promise. The base retail price of the QWERTY smartphone is $579.99, but an "instant savings" of $180 combined with a $100 mail-in-rebate brings the price down to palatable $299.99 (with a 2-year agreement, needless to say). Of course, if you're really starved for human contact, you could always head over to a Sprint store and buy one in person, too.<br /> <strong><br /> Update:</strong> Had a little trouble with those read links -- all fixed now.<br /><br />[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/htc/" rel="tag">HTC</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/sprint/" rel="tag">Sprint</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/windows-mobile/" rel="tag">Windows Mobile</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cdma/" rel="tag">CDMA</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/02/htc-touch-pro-now-available-for-purchase-online-as-promised/">Sprint's HTC Touch Pro now available for purchase online, as promised</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 02 Nov 2008 17:27:00 EST. Locked in a footrace with AT&amp;T's <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/Fuze/">Fuze</a> to become the first US national carrier to launch a variant of the <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/touchpro">HTC Touch Pro</a>, Sprint has announced that folks can start ordering the QWERTY smartphone this week from "select national retailers," making good on a promise <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/09/10/sprint-launches-htc-touch-diamond-and-pro-into-officialdom/">made at CTIA last month</a>. That's not quite as cool as a full-scale launch, but at least we'll start to get 'em in the wild in the next few days -- meanwhile, a more full-scale, fanfare-filled launch is planned for November 2 when the Touch Pro is made available online, via phone, and in all Sprint stores. Locked in a footrace with AT&amp;T's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Fuze/">Fuze</a> to become the first US national carrier to launch a variant of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/touchpro">HTC Touch Pro</a>, Sprint has announced that folks can start ordering the QWERTY smartphone this week from "select national retailers," making good on a promise <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/10/sprint-launches-htc-touch-diamond-and-pro-into-officialdom/">made at CTIA last month</a>. That's not quite as cool as a full-scale launch, but at least we'll start to get 'em in the wild in the next few days -- meanwhile, a more full-scale, fanfare-filled launch is planned for November 2 when the Touch Pro is made available online, via phone, and in all Sprint stores. Bad news, Sprint users. That <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/10/hands-on-with-sprints-touch-pro/">HTC Touch Pro</a> you've probably been waiting for won't be ready for your soft, delicate hands <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/31/leaked-sprint-roadmap-reveals-touch-pro-touch-diamond-dates-and/">on Sunday</a>. According to an undisclosed contact at the carrier, the outfit is expected to "slightly delay [the] launch of the Touch Pro by HTC to ensure it has adequate inventory in all channels before making the device commercially available." If you're looking for specifics, we're told that consumers can expect the handset "in select national retailers by the end of the month and then in all Sprint sales channels (including online at www.sprint.com and Sprint stores) by early November." It's not that next month is really that far away, it's just that next month isn't on Sunday. Bugger.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/htc/" rel="tag">HTC</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/sprint/" rel="tag">Sprint</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/windows-mobile/" rel="tag">Windows Mobile</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/ev-do/" rel="tag">EV-DO</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cdma/" rel="tag">CDMA</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/17/sprint-delaying-htc-touch-pro-by-a-little-bit/">Sprint delaying HTC Touch Pro by a little bit</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 17 Oct 2008 12:20:00 EST. Oh, come on, you know there's a part of you that wants it. A <em>big</em> part, even. The <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/09/10/hands-on-with-sprints-touch-diamond/">Touch Diamond</a> is the first new HTC piece to get teed up for Sprint, but the Touch Pro is hot on its heels a few weeks later -- and with a QWERTY keyboard, it's hard to ignore. Question is, is it worth the extra wait? Well, ease your troubled mind for just a second and take a gander at our gallery on Engadget Mobile -- we're not saying it's going to make your decision any easier, we're just saying everyone likes pretty pictures.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cellphones/" rel="tag">Cellphones</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handhelds/" rel="tag">Handhelds</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/10/hands-on-with-sprints-touch-pro/">Hands-on with Sprint's Touch Pro</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 10 Sep 2008 22:31:00 EST. We're just going to get this out of the way upfront: this thing's got <em>back</em>. The version of the HTC Touch Pro <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/10/sprint-launches-htc-touch-diamond-and-pro-into-officialdom/">gracing Sprint next month</a> isn't going to win any awards for miniaturization -- but with the VGA display, extremely usable QWERTY board, and the time-tested, buttoned-up business efficiency of Windows Mobile, it's hard to argue that they really could've done any more to make it a ridiculously usable smartphone. Interestingly, the phone isn't actually any larger than its GSM cousin; the curves applied around the edges here definitely add a few optical pounds and it's still pretty pocketable (just don't expect to ever forget that it's in there). The keyboard is fantastic (as all HTC keyboards tend to be) and we were surprised at how tasteful -- nice, even -- the chrome rings around the around the edges of the two halves actually are when you see them. The backside is done up in a soft-touch grey that would probably look just a little better in black (or even the Touch Diamond's red), but at least the neutral shade keeps it just about as biz-friendly as they come.<br /><br />Now here's the important part: after spending considerable time with both this and its QWERTY-free counterpart, we can definitely say that this one shouldn't simply be considered a "better Touch Diamond." The Diamond murders the Pro for total pocketability, sex appeal, and feel in the hand -- so you've really got to ask yourself just how badly you need that keyboard before you pull the trigger one way or another.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hands-on-with-sprints-touch-pro/">Hands-on with Sprint's Touch Pro</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hands-on-with-sprints-touch-pro/#1029968"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2008/09/htc-touch-pro-sprint-hands-on-ctia-00_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hands-on-with-sprints-touch-pro/#1029971"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2008/09/htc-touch-pro-sprint-hands-on-ctia-01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hands-on-with-sprints-touch-pro/#1029969"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2008/09/htc-touch-pro-sprint-hands-on-ctia-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hands-on-with-sprints-touch-pro/#1029974"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2008/09/htc-touch-pro-sprint-hands-on-ctia-03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hands-on-with-sprints-touch-pro/#1029975"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2008/09/htc-touch-pro-sprint-hands-on-ctia-04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/features/" rel="tag">Features</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/htc/" rel="tag">HTC</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/sprint/" rel="tag">Sprint</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/windows-mobile/" rel="tag">Windows Mobile</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/ev-do/" rel="tag">EV-DO</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cdma/" rel="tag">CDMA</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/10/hands-on-with-sprints-touch-pro/">Hands-on with Sprint's Touch Pro</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 10 Sep 2008 22:31:00 EST. From the looks of it, Sprint has gone and gotten a decent chunk of its playbook leaked all over the interblogs, and it's chock-full of titillating information. Thanks to slippery fingers and loose lips, we <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/05/more-details-on-htcs-touch-diamond-touch-pro-for-verizon-and/">already knew</a> that the Touch Diamond and Touch Pro were headed to the carrier, but now we have some <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/02/htc-report-says-touch-diamond-is-coming-to-sprint-this-month/">solid dates</a> (mid-September for the Diamond, October 19th for the Pro), and pricing ($549.99 and $579.99 unsubsidized, $249.99 and $320 with contract). Of course, this is all according to the above document, which admittedly could be the work of an extremely bored Photoshopper -- but this jibes <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/23/htcs-raphael-and-diamond-coming-to-sprint-and-looking-good/">pretty tightly</a> with a lot of other chatter we've been hearing.<br /><br />[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/htc/" rel="tag">HTC</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/sprint/" rel="tag">Sprint</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cdma/" rel="tag">CDMA</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/31/leaked-sprint-roadmap-reveals-touch-pro-touch-diamond-dates-and/">Leaked Sprint roadmap reveals Touch Pro, Touch Diamond dates and pricing</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 31 Aug 2008 13:31:00 EST. What we're still curious about, however, are the respective launch dates and the eventual names. <em>phoneArena</em> has it that the Touch Diamond will go by HTC Victor on Sprint and HTC Diamond on Verizon, with the former packing a slightly speedier CPU, an aluminum frame, accelerometer, 4GB of internal memory and EV-DO Rev. A support. As for Verizon's, expect it to boast half the RAM (128MB), a wimpier CPU, microSD expansion slot and a stainless steel frame. Moving on, we're told that the Touch Pro will be rechristined HTC Herman for Sprint and HTC Raphael (nice to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/01/htc-actually-readying-diamond-raphael-smartphones/">re-meet you</a>!) for The Network. Finally, we're clued in on a September 2nd release date for Sprint's Victor, while the Herman is expected a month later. As for Verizon? It'll probably be 30 or so days behind in both instances thanks to a presumed exclusivity agreement with its nemesis.
